I have a confession. When I first 'met' Gene, I detested her! Having been raised on the 'Pink One' (i.e. Barbie), I just couldn't get my head around this giant of a doll. She seemed too big, her head was the wrong shape and she had that austere aloof look about her. I couldn't understand how people were going crazy over her.
To me she was hideous! But all that was soon to change after I got involved in customising fashion dolls, and it was actually a repaint artist that changed my mind.
It was whilst cruising Ebay that I came across a most spectacular repaint by Viktoria La Paz. I was astounded that this beautiful creation was the same doll! I then began to look at Gene in a new light, and after a few months I gradually began to like her for who she was. I looked at other repaint artists, such as Katharine Rayland and Terri Norcia, and eventually I plucked up the courage to try my hand at repainting.
At first I was rather daunted at the idea of buying a rather expensive doll and stripping her of her beauty, just to make a mess out of her. But a kind friend sold me a 'played-with' Hello Hollywood Hello Gene for a cheap price (all because her hair was frizzed and she was missing an eyelash!), and she became my first model. This is the reason why the main 'theme' of this website is the HHH Gene, as a little 'homage' to my first repaint attempt! Although I haven't been doing this for long, I hope to be pursuing my interest for a long time to come.
