Good, dry weather and the usual professional Diss MCC Organisation greeted competitors to the 2003 Breckland Enduro. The club had been busy brashing since November to extend the lap to over 55 miles.
Paul Eddy had only lost one Breckland that he had entered and that was to his brother Derrick. He was keen to demonstrate that he is still the Breckland Master. The rest of us had other ideas though and after the first test on Saturday Paul was only third. David was leading from me then Paul. Paul soon pulled his finger out on the next two tests to take the Day win from David. I was third just over ten seconds behind David. Day 2 started without Paul as he 'chickened out' or thats what me and David think! Four tests in the reverse direction saw David win every test. Juan, Wayne and myself battled for 2nd and we finished in that order. Fortunately I held onto 2nd overall when the two days totals were added up.
Chris Hockey won the 450 class aboard a new 400 4-stroke Husky and Daryl Bolter and Ricky Mair finished 1st and 2nd respectively in the expert class. Lee Jones also debuted the 2003 Husky 250 4stroke to good effect in the baby thumper class.
Juan, David and I were talking after the event and we were all agreed that the event would benefit from an additional test to break the long lap up. Without a proper tight check it is easy to get bored and not enjoy the going.
