What a day! Preparation for the 3hour races has been very much on the back burner with the World championships coming up. Nevertheless I have managed to do some longer sessions this week and was happy with my riding and the bike so was quietly confident of a good result. I had to pick a friend up from the airport late on saturday night so i had a lye in on Sunday morning to make sure I had enough sleep. (I'm useless at Fast Eddy's if I don't have a good nights sleep and plenty to eat and drink) I arrived at the track just after 11am. This wouldn't have been a problem except that everyone else had already scrutineered and there were no spaces on the start line so I had to start on the second row. When the flag dropped I ran straight into the back of the KTM in front of me whose bike didnt start first kick (I think it was Mark Jackson - Apologies Mark) As a result I was near enough last away. I passed a lot riders in the first two laps then i read on my pit board that I was in 4th. I was surprised that I was placed so high so began to get a move on to catch 3rd when i had a big crash near the pits. My rear wheel got tangled in some rope which took a while to cut out. I got going again and pitted the next lap to check all was OK. My mate looked at the computer screen at race control after the pit stop and I was in 26th position - not good. I thought about stopping but thought maybe I could get back into the points if i got my head down. I kept plodding on and ended up having 4 pitstops as my first stop was too early. I had several little falls and seemed to really struggle passing slower riders. To say that i didn't feel on top of my game would be an understatement. Everything seemed to go wrong so at the end I was happy to find out I was tenth overall. Next event is the first World Enduro Championship in a fortnight. I depart with Simon Wakely on Wednesday.
