Professor Dato’ Dr. Ibrahim Ahmad Bajunid is Professor of Management, Leadership and Policy Studies and Dean, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at University Tun Abdul Razak (UNITAR). He is also the President of the Malaysian Educational Research Association (MERA), President of Malaysian Education Management and Leadership Association (MCEA), Deputy President of Malaysian Institute of Human Resource Management (MIHRM) and the Secretary of the Malaysian Association for Education (PERPEMA). Previously he was the Director of Institut Aminuddin Baki, the National Institute of Educational Management and Leadership. He was a member of the Task Force that established Institute Aminudin Baki in 1979. For more than two decades he has been the key figure in the Field of Educational Management and Leadership in Malaysia.
He is Editor and Editorial Advisor for several educational journals, locally and internationally. He has also presented keynote addresses at various conferences in Malaysia and in many countries of the world. He had presented papers in conferences held in USA, China, Australia, New Zealand, Russia, Philippines, Mexico, Finland, UAE, Egypt, Thailand, India, Brunei, Bahrain and England. He has been a teacher and has provided services as consultant to government bodies, private organizations as well as Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO). Most of his contributions focussed on Education, Leadership, Cognitive Sciences: Thinking and Valuing, Human Resources Development, National Development and Future Studies.
He has been the leader of Teachers’ Associations, Vice President of CUEPACS and President of the Senior Educators’ Association. Professor Dato’ Dr. Ibrahim Ahmad Bajunid was awarded the “Tokoh Kesatuan Guru,” Fellow of the Council of Educational Management in Commonwealth Countries and Honorary Fellow of the Council of Education Management, South Africa. He has been a consultant in Thailand, UAE, Botswana, and Cambodia, among other assignments. He is a Distinguished Fellow, Institute of Strategic and International Studies (ISIS), Malaysia and Fellow Emeritus, the National Institute of Educational Management and Leadership (IAB).
Professor Dato’ Dr. Ibrahim Ahmad Bajunid is from Penang and did his BA (Hons), Dip Ed and MEd in the University of Malaya. He later obtained an Advanced Dip Ed and MA from the University of Leeds, England and also pursued his studies for the Masters and Doctorate Degrees at Harvard University, United States of America. He has academic qualifications in History, Literature, Sociology, Linguistics, Research Methods, Management, Leadership and Policy Studies.
He has taught and lectured in various schools including Chung Ling Secondary School, Penang; Sultan Abu Bakar Secondary School, Kuantan, Pahang;Kulim Secondary School, Kedah; Sultan Abdul Halim Secondary School, Jitra, Kedah; Language Institute, Kuala Lumpur; Seri Kota Teachers’ College, Kuala Kumpur; Technical Teachers’ Training College, Kuala Lumpur; and the Malaysian Education Staff Training Institute [renamed, Institut Aminuddin Baki], Genting Highlands, Pahang. He has also lectured in universities in Malaysia, including, the University of Malaya, Universiti Teknologi MARA, the National University of Malaysia, and Universiti Putra Malaysia. He initiated the Twinning program between Institute Aminudin Baki with all local universities and several foreign universities. Through the Twinning Programs, thousands of Malaysian educators obtained opportunities to pursue Masters and Doctoral level Studies.
Professor Dato’ Dr. Ibrahim continues to contribute significantly in
the training, human resource development, knowledge and education fields.
He is involved in several research projects on education and development.
He is on the Advisory and Expert Panel Board of several National Committees
and is the Chairperson of the Human Resource Development Committee for
Penang, under the Internal Coordination Unit, Prime Minister’s Department.
Among his present responsibilities is the challenge of establishing
a National Leadership Academy in the Faculty of Humanities and the Social
Sciences [FHSS], UNITAR. He contributes academic articles to national and
international journals on invitation and currently, he is a regular columnist
in the New Straits Times.
