More wells found contaminated!

July 20,2000 - The EPA Site Manager, Dave Rosoff, has informed us that three more wells, tested by the EPA on Townsend Road, have been found to be contaminated with PCE, TCE & DCE. These are the same Volatile Organic Cancer Causing Chemicals found in 50 wells on Burbank Road, Seymour Lane, & Shenandoah Road.

The New York State Department of Health also tested several wells on the Northern end of Shenandoah Road near the IBM Recreation Center. The results of these tests have not been released. This area  is where the original contamination was discovered in 1981.

1st round of testing builds no confidence!

July 23,2000 “Your well tests clean!” says the EPA; but (and that’s a big but). You are not within the safety zone for filtration! Some home owners have reading so high that the filtration systems installed may not do the job. All residents must have their water tested every three months (minimum) and the carbon filters changed when needed. To estimate: if you use 1000 gallons per month and your level of contamination is below  50ppb your system should last nine months. Please have it checked often.

Source of contamination still a mystery!

Federal EPA, State DOH & DEC as well as the East Fishkill Police have not been able to find the source of the PCE’s. It must be the guy with the wood chipper claims one agency, while another is looking for a guy who makes computer chips in his basement. This is no joke. These are actual claims!
