| Amistad |
The movie drew massive praise and massive bashing from the critics, but the image isn't befuddled for the Master; this is definitely one of the films that stand out. Combining aesthetic mastery with manicured event rendition and exceptionally thoughtful dialogue, the film rouses a new height of emotional tension and never lets go. Spielberg's knowledge about imagery is without question the braodest one recognizable, in a craft where so much rests on it. |
| Back to the Future, Forrest Gump, Cast Away |
Robert Zemeckis is just amazing; take away distraction movies, like maybe a suspense flick shot the in between the making of Cast Away (they had a bit of a break since Tom Hanks had to lose 60 pounds) and the guy knows how to shoot films. Forrest Gump will easily crack the Master's short list and Back to the Future started a genre of movies in itself. This director knows his stuff. |
| American Beauty |
Oscars, anyone? This is just a storytelling masterpiece. From the directing, to the script, to Spacey's haunting understanding of the common man, the film takes the narrative to a level all its own. |
