The Egyptian League history
The Egyptian league was launched in 1948 and El-Ahly won the first contest in which the following 11 teams participated: El-Ahly, El-Zamalek, El-Tersana,El-Ismaili, El-Masry, El-Etehad, El-Olympy, El-Sekka El-Hadid, Younan of Alexandria, El-Teram and Port Fouad.
El-Ahly, 29 time Championship title winners, has qualified for the Championship games for 46 years. The team placed as one of the top 3 teams 46 times (2nd place for 9 times and 3rd for 3 times).
Zamalek, 10 time Championship title winners, and the second biggest team of the Egyptian soccer league, participated in the Championship league games for 43 years, and also placed in the top 3 for 43 times ( 2nd place for 27 times and 3rd for 6 times).
Egyptian Football Cup
The Egyptian Soccer Cup was instituted in 1921.
Zamalek won it 18 times and El-Ahly 31 times. In two instances both Zamalek and Al-Ahly shared the title, in 1934 and in 1958.
Participations of African nations cup
Egypt organized the African Nations Cup three times in 1959,1974 and 1986, and will be hosting for a fourth time in 2006.
Egypt has also won the African Nations Cup four times in 1957, 1959, 1986 and more recently in 1998.
Participations in FIFA World Cup
The Egyptian National Team qualified for the FIFA World Cup™ in 1934 in Italy .
The Egyptian National Team also participated in the FIFA World Cup™ in 1990 in Italy.
Egypt's National Team for Youth was the bronze-medal winner in the Argentina FIFA World Cup™ in 2001.
