PERSONALITIES - PAGE 3 |
The Hadder Family and the Kelly Family, taken in the Campground at Grand Canyon National Park in June 2001. From left to right, back to front: Myself, Mike Kelly, Jim Hadder, Nick Kelly, Karen Hadder, Barb Kelly, and Bridget Kelly. I put this picture up today after learning of the death of former Beatle George Harrison. Bridget is somewhat of a Beatle expert, and I'm sure she is watching the memories of George as they are broadcast all over the media. |
The Ultimate Railfans: Robby Peartree, Tom Moungovan, and Myself. We have made a 'Pilgrimage' to Chama, NM, home of the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic RR. We're standing in front of Rio Grande Southern Galloping Goose #1, a recreation built by the Ridgeway RR Museum of Ridgeway, Co. Vehicles like this were used on the dying railroad back in the 30's and 40's to transport mail and passengers, after business had depreciated enough to make running complete trains too expensive. |
This car had come to visit the C&TS for the weekend to get some test runs on the big hill. No public passengers were allowed to ride, but we got to look the car over in the Chama yard and later chased it up the hill. |

Hostler Forman Karl Zicopolous in the Engineer's seat of #18 at the Grand Canyon. I took this photo using Karl's digital Camera. The shop engineers don't get to run trains to the Canyon very often. When they do, they bring cameras to record the event, and I get to do the photography. Chief Mechanical Officer Robert Franzen also took some shots on his trip, and one he took of me appeared in the Company Newsletter. |

I took this shot on a whim, but it has turned out to be one of my favorites. Jeff Stebbins has just run #463 as the helper engine up the hill to Cumbres Pass on the Cumbres and Toltec Scenic RR. After cutting the helper loose, the train continued on to Antonito, Co. The Helper has turned on the wye, taken on water, and is ready to proceed back to Chama, NM, after the crew has lunch. Jeff is sitting on the porch of the Cumbres Section house. His fireman is out of the shot to the left, and he is talking to my friends Tom and Robby. Jeff has the look of a classic engineer. I really like his hat. Several of the C&TS Operating Crew have Bowler's like that. It's more creative than the traditional Hickory Stripe cap, but just as appropriate. |
