5.25 Inch Drive
5.25 inch external drive bays can hold several different types of hardware. For drive bay two I will use a CD-ROM for the example. CD-ROMs can hold around 650Mbs (650,000,000 bytes) of information. The data transfer speed rating, you see associated with CD-ROM drives, means transfering 150Kbs (150,000 bytes) a second is equal to 1x. If the CD-ROM is a 10x, then it can transfer 1,500,000 bytes per second. A 20x can transfer 3,000,000 bytes per second. It is simply a standard they established in order to be able to rate the speed of the CD-ROM drives.
