All-State Choir Auditions are live auditions held towards the end of October and have eleven sections:

Classical Solo Piece (50 points)
Melodic Sight Singing (20 points)
Aural Recall (10 points)
Rhythmic Sight Reading (10 points)
Major Scale (2 points)
Harmonic Minor Scale (2 points)
Melodic Minor Scale (2 points)
Major Triad (1 point)
Minor Triad (1 point)
Augmented Triad (1 point)
Diminished Triad (1 point)

CLASSICAL SOLO PIECE
You are responsible to prepare a solo piece for audition. You must provide your own accompanist for auditions. The piece may not be pop, jazz, or musical theater in nature. Mrs. Cate has many pieces to pick from if you are stuck on finding a piece. Plus, if you let her know what piece you are preparing in advance, she can create a rehearsal CD for you to practice with.

MELODIC SIGHT SINGING
This contains two, four-bar selections. The judge will give you the music, a few moments to look it over, and then play your starting note. You must then sing the four bars. Most melodic reading selections have no larger jumps than a 3rd. To practice sight signing, there is an excellent website where you can practice and it will play the selections for you so you can check yourself. Click the link below to go to the site.

AURAL RECALL
This is where the judge will play two, 4-bar selections and then you will sing them back. The best way to practice this is to have a friend play or sing something to you and then you sing it back.

RHYTHMIC SIGHT READING
This contains one, four- to six-bar selection. The judge will give you the music and a few moments to look it over. You must then sing the four bars. Most rhythmic reading selections are either in 3/4, 4/4, or 6/8. To practice rhythmic reading, there is an excellent website where you can practice and it will play the selections for you so you can check yourself. Click the link below to go to the site.
