Program Changes

PROGRAM

*Daisy Girl scouts will now have a few earned recognitions--Daisy "Petals"-- for understanding the Promise and Law.  The "Promise Center" is earned for understanding the Girl Scout Promise and each of the ten "Learning Petals" is earned for showing an appreciation of one part of the Girl Scout Law.

*Brownie Girl scouts will have twelve new Try-Its.  Eight existing Try-Its have been re-named, and there are minor changes in the content to some of the others.  The Worlds have been eliminated, so all Try-Its will have brown borders.  The new Try-Its are:

**   Brownie GS Through the Years
**   Computer Smarts
**   Friends are Fun
**   Healthy Habits
**   Let's Pretend
**   Penny Power
**   People are Talking
**   Stitch it Together
**   Travel Right
**   Write Away

MATERIALS

*New Daisy Girl Scout materials to support the petals will appear at least in the new Leaders Guide.  The new Daisy Girl Scout Activity Book will be 8 1/2 by 11 to be easier to carry for a Daisy.

*One big Brownie Girl Scout book has been turned into two smaller ones (each 8 1/2 by 11).  The new Brownie handbook will be spiral bound.  A set including Try-Its for Brownie Girl Scouts (a separate book), is available and will cost $2 less than buying the two books separately.  The books are linked--each chapter in the handbook mirrors a chapter in the Try-Its book.  The new Guide for Brownie Girl Scout Leaders includes a section called "Activities in a Pinch", stuff that can be easily done with little prep time and few supplies.

*A revised Safety Wise is due in July (but may not be out until Aug.).  It will contain new material on group leadership, planning, budgeting, and progresion.  The activity checkpoints section has been expanded to include more activities that girls want to do like fishing, sledding, snowboarding, snow tubing, indoor wall climbing and use of computers.  The trip planning section has been expanded to put more emphasis on safety for automobiles.  There are 3 earned pins included in the new Sfety Wise (Safety Award Pins), one for Brownies, one for Juniors and one for Cadettes and Seniors.  The pins will emphasize the importance of safety for girls in all their activities at home, in the community, and in Girl Scouting.

UNIFORMS

*Components added to both of theses levels coordinate with existing components.
*Daisy Girl Scouts get new long-sleeve and short-sleeve t-shirts, and new print leggings.
*Brownie Girl Scouts get a new "easy-to-wear" (i.e.,removable!) jumper, a pull-on front-pleated skirt, a skort, a long-sleeve mock turtleneck with the Brownie elf design, and a cardigan with blue trim.  Shorts and pants have cargo pockets.
