the first day that we arrived in lisboa, i wasn't interested in going along with the rest of the tour group, so some of the other girls and i decided to do our own thing and check out the Alfama, which is the old section of the ciudad. clutching my Let's Go guide as if it were the way to learn about portugal, we set off!

our ultimate goal was to see the castello de sao jorge, which is very old and very nice. in the end, we walked a little out of our way, but we did painstakingly ask for ice cream with gestures. :)
