this toro was just great! in northern Spain lie las cuevas de Altamira, in which there are cave paintings which date back to the beginnings of mankind. last year (2001) when i was living in madrid, for spring break, i went on a 10-day bus tour thru the north of Spain. it was great- i was the only English-speaker, so i was assured lots of learning experiences. anyhow, we did visit the province in which the caves are found, but we were unable to enter them because they were closed off to the public. apparently years and years of people (and their body heat) caused the paintings to wear, and so the government decided to keep people away in order to preserve them. hopefully you can see how the painting on this bull is reminiscent of the type of paintings one would have found years and years ago. i do love this design!
