The Michigan Battalion Drill Weekend
(click on the pictures to enlarge).
The
22nd Michigan fell in with the 17th Michigan to form the first company on
Saturday.
Lt."Dan"
Walker had the inevitable first cup of coffee, while jawing with the frozen
remains of the overnight campers.
(Brvt.) Major Ric Lemon spoke with the battalion before moving them out for
drill.
The
peaceful quiet of camp was disturbed by a confederate sniper trying to pick off
the Major.
Here the first company poses with the captive.
Lt.
S.T. "Dan" Walker was proud of the tailoring on his new frock coat,
and of his new gloves. The major, thought that I looked like a
schoolmaster (I do!).

The
major gives some final words of wisdom, and thanks the men for capturing the
sniper before he (the major) came to any real harm.
