Essential Listening
It's hard to pick just one, since this is my favorite band and everyone should hear how wonderful they are.  If I had to pick one, though, buy Together Alone, their last full length album.  Filled with wonderful, evocative songs, it shows why this band is missed so much and why Neil Finn is considered one of the best songwriters ever (and that is NOT an exaggeration).  Also recommended, since CH is considered one of the best live bands ever, if you can find it, get the limited edition of Recurring Dream, which includes a second CD of live recordings.  You can't go wrong with that.

Offshoots
Crowded House itself was an offshoot of Split Enz.  Tim Finn was briefly a member of CH (for the Woodface album) and has had several solo albums, his latest being Say It Is So.  Neil Finn has a solo career also, with his first record, Try Whistling This, released in 1998 and his second effort, One Nil, due at the beginning of 2001.
