Maggie Shearrow Learning Record- February 5 Biweekly Summary and Self Goals |
||||||||||||||||
The very first journal entry to now has been a journey all on its own. Yes, I have only been in this class for three weeks but I can feel myself understanding nature closer to its entirety. I have learned by doing the Road Map of my journey that I have had many experiences with nature that I have taken for granted. Experiences which should have been cherished at that moment were forgotten in the second following. My journal entries have become much more personal. I have found myself writing things about my life that I would have been able to live without telling a single soul. I suppose that is what writing about nature does to a person. Being on the same level as nature and walking hand in hand with the experiences and lessons I learn from her really allow me to look deeper inside myself than ever before. Actually, I would have never thought to write down my thoughts of nature. I would have acted as if it wasn't important, as I normally did. Things have changed. My outlook on life versus nature has changed. | ||||||||||||||||

A change for the better I would have to say. It brings me great happiness and joy to think on this new level. I feel as if I were amidst a straight pathway that leads me to the top of a hill and over that hill I see pure beautiful nature. I just with this pathway was shown to me earlier in my life! That's in our nature though; to be selfish. Nature writing has brought upon me another style of living. A carefree living and happy living; wow, what nature can do to you, right? I want to be able to firstly, continue learning about numerous writing techniques and be able to express my opinions freely regurgitating memories I have had from early childhood. Secondly I would love to be able to reach that level of understanding of nature that would allow me to be peaceful with the choices that she makes. For example, love every icy, sunny, cold, windy day that she allows us to see. In Layman's terms, don't be bothered by itsy bitsy troubles, be thankful to see what the day brings. Thirdly improve my writing abilities. This will allow me to make sense to everyone without having to explain myself five or six times. Fourth, I would love to learn how to meditate by the end of this class. I want to see how it is to be shut out of all chaos of the industrialized world. Those chaotic times that it bestows on us and be "one" with nature. I guess these goals are sufficient for now. I will be adding onto them as time progresses and we do more outside activities, such as visiting Taniguchi's garden. But mostly I want to be able to open myself up to others, even if that is through a drawing of a tree in front of the Harry Ransom Center. I can not wait to see what nature has in store for us all to see! |
