Hope

Hope of Eis Haus What, you were expecting another dog, maybe? While driving home from work one evening in early December, movement at the side of the road caught my eye. To my horror, a kitten lurched onto the road and I had to swerve to avoid hitting it. I went back to get it and tucked the fragile, listless form inside my jacket. I drove directly to my vet's office, fearing the worst. The vet's assessment was dire: this kitten was severely malnourished and dehydrated and nearly hypothermic. She would need special care to get her through the night, and there wouldn't be anyone at the clinic once they closed. Without hesitation, I told him she was going home with me. I knew this kitten was special; I knew she was a gift sent especially for me. Before I had her home, I had already named her: Hope. Some of you know that I had a bone marrow transplant in 1999. My old cat had passed away the year before that, and I wanted another, but wasn't allowed to have one until two years post-transplant. This kitten appeared just two weeks before the two years were up.
