We are at the museum now so let's look around. I'm starting with plants because that's what's most often seen in the desert.
To the right is a saguaro cactus 10s of feet tall. Atop the cactus is a hawk surveying the scene ... maybe looking for a meal or maybe watching the tourists below.
Below are some cactus in bloom. When the cactus bloom, the desert is alive with color and birds and insects. The bloom of the various cactii depends on rainfall, elevation, and season. It can be summer on the desert floor and grade into spring as you go up the mountains. Things are colorful at this time. Many people travel to the Southwest for the desert bloom.
Here are a few of the many colorful flowers on display in the Sonoran Desert museum. These are larger and more colorful than many of the normal Sonoran wildflowers.
