Coyote

The coyote is my favorite animal. Coyote is prominent in Native American Legend in the Southwest. He is intelligent, cunning, a trickster and a master of self sabatoge. In many of these legends he is the creator or the benefactor of man.

I know several coyote hunters and trappers in Southeastern Arizona. All of them have stories of how they were outwitted by coyotes. Everyone who ever dealt with Coyote has a grudging respect for him.

Wile E. Coyote, the Warner Brothers cartoon character created by the legendary Chuck Jones, is my favorite cartoon character. Wile E. Coyote is the master of self sabatoge. Nothing that happens to him is caused by outside forces; everything is the result of his own cunning. I identify with Wile E.
