Police Arrest 2 Men At Punk Icon's Grave

Littleton - Two Canadians are being held for lack of bail after an altercation with police early Sunday at the grave of a punk rock icon.

Littleton Police Chief Louis Babin said it's not unusual to make arrests this time of year at the grave of Kevin Allin, who was known in punk music circles as G.G. Allin. He died five years ago Sunday in New York City of a drug overdose.

"It happens every year that we have problems at the grave site," Babin said. "We'll have problems there from now through about July 5."

Those problems can range from beer cans littering the grave site to more offensive actions. Allin, who described himself as "the most violent man in rock 'n' roll," had onstage antics that included urination and defecation.

"We find they do the type of stuff he did in his act," Babin said. Early Sunday morning, while on patrol around Glenwood Cemetery, police arrested Michael Gagnon, 25 of Graemuer, Quebec, and his companion, Francis Gauthier, 20, of Levis, Quebec. According to documents at Littleton District Court, Gagnon had been told earlier last weekend not to be at the cemetery after dark. While making the arrest, officers were allegedly kicked and spat on by Gagnon.

He was charged with two counts of simple assault, resisting arrest, criminal trespass and violating the town's open-container law. Bail was set at $2,000 cash at his arraignment Monday.

Gauthier was charged with trespassing, and bail was set at $500 cash. Both are being held for lack of bail at the Grafton County House of Correction in Haverhill. Both men will face trial in District Court on July 31.

Babin said police have made arrests at the grave site for the past three years.
