Ooh, he's got pretty hair... I keep wondering what it would be like
if he grew it out like the rest of the Shitennou ;)
I don't know a whole lot about Jadeite. He was only in thirteen episodes
of the series and not even the entire first graphic novel of the manga...
he didn't last long after Sailor Mars made the scene. Anyway, I haven't
seen a lot of Jadeite's escapades. I've seen both his first two episodes
and his last two (even though the first were dubbed) and I've read up
on him on the internet, so I have somewhat of a grasp of his character. And
to hear of it, he doesn't have much of one. But he has more than many characters
that were in shows for their entirety ;) So here goes... I'll relay
as much knowledge as I have of him.
Jadeite, called Jedite in the dub (kind of like Jedi Knight? *snicker*) was the
first of the Shitennou. It's my personal opinion that Queen Beryl (in her
infinite genius) arranged her kings to work from the weakest to the
strongest, saving Kunzite for last. I'm not sure if that's true, but
that's just the way I interpreted it. At any rate, Jadeite's mission
was to collect energy for (I assume) Queen Metallia. I guess she needed to
regain her strength before she could have anyone go after the crystals. Jadeite
would generally attack a group of people assembled somewhere, such as in Naru's
mother's jewelry shop in the first episode. He also broadcasted over the radio to
suck energy from people.
Jadeite has been called the King of Illusions because of the fact
that he takes on a different character each time he tries to get
energy from the populace. He was a radio DJ, a cruise director, a bus
driver in the manga... he changed his appearance so many times that you've got
to wonder if it was a little hobby of his to dress up in costumes ^_^ Also, Jadeite doesn't
seem to be the kind of person usually portrayed in fanfic-- the nice one. He's actually rather
mean, when it comes down to it. He's nasty to the Senshi and he directs his youma
well, commanding respect from them. He sucks up to Queen
Beryl a lot, but come on, who wouldn't? You either suck up to her or you get
your butt toasted. It's best not to mess with someone like her ;)
Jeddy met his demise in episode thirteen, after failing one too many times, as is the
fate of many BSSM bad-guys. However, again like a lot of villains in Sailor Moon, he
was killed before he could tell Beryl something very important. See, he had led
the Sailor Senshi out to an airport with a rather impressive illusion of
himself in the sky, spitting fire *laughs*
and after practically running them over and almost drowning Tuxedo Mask, they defeated him and he
had to go back to Beryl empty-handed. He had, however, seen the Senshi morph and so knew
who they were in real life. But Beryl turned him into a popsicle before he had a chance
to tell her. Baka Beryl ;) So Jadeite got put into Eternal Sleep and was never revived
again, except in fanfic. And what more easy a death could one want to reverse in fanfic? ;) It's
actually kind of ironic that someone who loved to change his clothes so much ( ;) ) got frozen
in the same position (and outfit) for all eternity. Poor Jeddy.
Anyway, Jadeite was definately not the most powerful of Shitennou. He was killed
quickly (mostly because Beryl has a short temper) and he didn't get much
character development, but the producers had to focus on the heros at that
point. Beryl never got as much as he did for the entire season, except the little
added dimension of being in love with Endymion. Or was that just in the manga? I'm not
sure. She kept saying she wanted to marry him in the show, anyway. But back to Jadeite...
he could do a lot of pretty cool things. I mean, it's kind of neat to be able
to project an image of yourself above the city, let alone to breath fire ;) He also
could move stuff around telekinetically, which has to have its perks.
Since Jeddy was the first of the Shitennou, he really didn't get much interaction with
the other characters. He hated the Senshi, of course, because they foiled his plans every
time he turned around, but he never really got to know the other Shitennou. Nephrite took over
his job after he was iced without mention of the former king except to say that he would do
a better job. All of the kings pretty much had the same relationship with Queen Beryl,
although I believe Jadeite was a little less resentful than the last two.
In the manga, however, he had some dealings with Nephrite. Neffy mocked him on occasion
and was actually quite upset when he got destroyed by Sailor Moon's tiara. And Zoisite was
also around when they were talking to Beryl about the Silver Imperium Crystal. Which, in the manga,
Jadeite was after as well as trying to get energy.
So, all in all, Jadeite was pretty cool for a first villain. At least he didn't just appear and
zap people or anything, he actually had plans and dressed up and stuff ;) He may not have
been the most complex of the Shitennou (that honor would have to go to Zoisite) but he was at least
interesting.
Since I don't have as much room on my page as I'd like to (and I'm paying
anyway, due to Geocities' evil new data transfer policy) I have some links here
to pages where they have lots of good pictures. If there's a picture you've seen
previously on this page, e-mail me, and I'll try to fish it out of the vast
space that is my hard drive ^_^
Stayka's Dark Kingdom Home
This page has the most screenshots I have ever seen from any show, let
alone the Dark Kingdom of Sailor Moon. There's tons and tons of them, and almost all of my
pictures came from here. This page is amazing ^_^
