Mitsuru Tsuwabuki is a fourth-grader who has dedicated
his life to serving Nanami. Is he insane, you ask? Yeah,
probably, but so is everyone else. Anyway, Mitsuru first
saw Nanami when he was a really little kid. She was about to
get trampled by a bull (she definately has problems with rampaging
animals), and at the last second, Touga saved her. After
seeing this, Mitsuru decided that he wanted to be just like Touga,
and be a big brother to Nanami. Later, when he was in fourth
grade and could have contact with Nanami, he put her into
all sorts of danger just so he could save her. She realised
the benefits of a little kid who wanted to wait on her hand and
foot, so she took full advantage of him, employing him to make
her lunch, plan her classes, get her crib notes for tests...
all in exchange for allowing him to remain in her presence.
She called him her boyfriend (generating much talk around
Ohtori), but he really didn't want to be in a relationship
with her, he wanted to be her big brother and protect her.
After one last time of a crazed animal attacking Nanami (this
time it was a boxing kangeroo, and Touga saved her yet again),
they decided that they should break up. Mitsuru disappears
until the Black Rose Saga, when he asks Utena and Anthy how
they would define a grown-up. They said that it depends
on how much expirience you've had, and if you've had a lot
of things happen to you, than you became a grown-up. Utena
was not really sure herself if this was true, and she actually
thought about it for a while afterwards. Anyway, Mitsuru decided
that if he was ever going to become a grown-up and be treated
like one, he would have to do something to get expirience. So
he went to Nemuro Memorial Hall and Mikage turned him into a
Black Rose Duelist. He drew Nanami's sword from her chest
and battled Utena with it, acquiring Nanami's quickness like the
other's had acquired the talents of the people they had drawn
swords from.
