That Boy!
Now. I’ve been teaching my bandmate Samantha to play this really awesom Pumpkin’s song called « Cherub Rock » (check it out!) We’ve been working at it for weeks but still she doesn’t seem to get it. This is due to alot of things, she has a problem with timing (she’s not on beat) she doesn’t slide well and she can’t seem to remember the order of the chords. Anywayz…after thoroughly going through it many times, she finally sorta gets it and she’s esctatic about this. I mean who wouldn’t be ‘cause when you learn and know how to play a pumpkins song… you think you ‘re a guitar god/goddess. So one day she’s at Long and McQuade (our guitar shop) just hangin out trying new guitars and she decides to play « Cherub Rock. » Now alot of people come to Long and McQuade alot of nice people and alot of a-holes. The a-holes are the guyz our age that go there, its like you play something and they start playing when and what you do but only better (well…thinking they’re better) The nice people are the old guys that are into Classic rock and jazz and they’re always asking you to play a song or something with them and they encourage you and give you useful guitar tricks, compliments, etc. Anywayz….Samantha is playing « Cherub Rock » and really into it she thinks she’s just amazing then out of now where comes this dumbass (the guy that has dead-straight shoulder length hair, is always wearing the same dirty MXPX shirt and is at Long and McQuade religiously every Saturday. He’s a loser he’s nothing else better to do.) So he starts playing « Cherub Rock » but only better cause he is better at it than Samantha considering she hasn’t known it as long as he has. People notice what he’s doing and Samanthat gets embarrassed cause he’s better and she leaves the store upset. Remember now…I wasn’t there that time, Samantha was there with someone else. So, Samantha tells me the story and wants revenge, we plan to back to long and mcQuade that Saturday ‘cause I had to pick up my bass (which long and McQuade had for four firkin months just repairing the broken pick-guard!….I’m not even going to start with that right now.) We go back to the store on Saturday afternoon and I see that same guy (with the same MXPX shirt again). He sees Samantha and instantly starts playing « Cherub rock » so I grab a gold strat go on the other side of him, plug in my guitar, crank up the distortion and I play « Cherub Rock », the solo and all. Now I’ve been playing this song for years and I know it like the back on my hand, itz one of my favourite Pumpkins songs and I am way better than him at it. I’ll never forget his face that day, it was jokes! As soon as I was like a third throught through the song he puts his guitar back on the stand and leaves the store. He was embarassed…I guess he thought that since I was a girl, I was inexperienced and I sucked but he’s dead wrong. I mean, I’m not all that Great at playing classic rock songs but I KNOW MY PUMPKINS. To this day ….every time I go to Long and McQuade I never ever see him . I thinks it’z cause all the employees there know him (‘cause he goes there every Saturday) and he didn’t want to face them again after the embarassment. But I did see him at the last MXPX concert that I went to …yup, still wearing the same shirt, but that night is a whole other story!
