Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Having been a moderate fan of Star Trek Enterprise for the longest time, I grew up under the publicly televised leadership of Captain Jean-Luc Picard (Patrick Stewart).  He's always been the model for leadership, making decisions with the support of his people, and even sometimes without.  Never known to shirk responsibility for a bad decision, his screen persona becomes made that much more human.

He really came through to me in Star Trek : First Contact.  Having a personal vendetta with the Borg, he was adamant to abandon ship and insisted on fighting the Borg to the death.  Only after the extreme intervention, did he see through his mistake.  He ordered his crew to abandon ship, but stayed back to save Data.  No, he wasn't putting Zip discs into the drives!  I mean Lt. Cmdr. Data!  His self-sacrificial attitude of putting his crew before himself is rarely found in local Enterprises.  No, not even McDonalds.

Bio-Data

Picard was born on Earth in 2305 to Maurice & Yvette Gessard Picard. Maurice was a tradition bound French vintner who tried to discouraged Jean-Luc ambitions of voyaging among the stars. Jean-Luc was raised on a family farm along with his older brother Robert Picard. As a boy, he enjoyed building ships in bottles. His collection included a legendary Promellian Battle cruiser. He would later discover that ship in his voyages aboard the Enterprise-D. As a boy, Picard visited the Smithsonian Institute and viewed Zefram Cochran's warp ship (The Phoenix).

Starfleet Academy

Surprisingly, Picard failed in his first attempt to gain entrance in to Starfleet Academy at the age of 17, but was admitted a year later. In is first year Picard was able to become the first freshmen ever to win the Starfleet Academy marathon on Danula II. Picard won top Honors as well. While at the academy Picard took guidance from the groundskeeper named Boothby. Picard said that if it wasn't for Boothby he would not have graduated. Boothby helped Picard to do the right thing after he committed a serous offence. Picard was on leave with several classmates at Starbase Earhart, where he was involved in a fight with three Nausicaans. One of the Nausicaans was able to stab Picard through the heart. Jean-Luc had to undergo surgery and received an artificial heart. As a young officer, Picard was romantically involved with the future Jenice Manheim. Although the two had been strongly attracted to each other, Picard feared commitment and he eventually broke off the relationship in 2342. For many years Picard regretted losing Jenice, and the two saw each other again in 2364 after a serious laboratory accident on Vandor IV. Picard set him self apart from the rest when he led an away team to Milika III to save an endangered ambassador.
