hey
Hey
Feel free to screw with the topic when you get a CMS date.
ok, thank you
also, I though we already were level 8?
No, level 7. We had 12600 EXP before, I believe.
Bt I can't find the Plant Cage's sheet, so I'm sying we round up.
Basically.
Neener neener neener, new abilities for everyone expect Raza.
:P
Anyhow. I think Serigo's out of town tonight... So, any news on Gale?
nope
Of course...
he's probably not coming tonight
Well, grrr on him.
We should probably figure soemthing out for all this.
Haven't had him here in like a month. :/
Since we've technically got only 50% of the party showing up.
More like a month and a half
Or more. *shrug*
but yeah. Ask him: Does he still want to try and participate, or should we leave him in the dust r what?
* Liana has joined #terranotos
* Moryssa has quit IRC (Ping timeout)
...
Right then. Reask!
honestly, sometimes I forget to tell Gale, but he's 22 years old. he should remember on his own
But yeah. Ask him (Gale): Does he still want to try and participate, or should we leave him in the dust, or what?
"he's a big boy now".
* Liana is now known as Moryssa
He'll probably want to participate, but I have no problem leaving him in the dust
To be fair, I don't either. This campaign may well live as a duet, though we can get more if need be.
So yeah... Anythign else before we kick off? Shouldn't be any combat tonight, btw.
nope
Nothing I can think of
Niftiness.
* ElementalKnight is now known as EK|GM
* Typhoon is now known as Estrain
* The Mailmoogle wanders on screen, the Official Terranots Strategy Guide by Bradygames under his arm. He's reading a letter, and stumbles into the Save Machine. Without looking, he sticks the Save Card in, loads Slot 2, and continues walking.
* The world reloads just outside of the walls of Skylark's Watch; the old stone facades a counterpoint to the ancient mountains and beautiful vistas on all other sides.
* Moryssa is now known as Raza
(heh)
* Before the party, a huge archway stands open, revealing a mountain town by any other name - small, stable buildings, rocky streets, and people who know what they're doing. Also, tourists...
* Behind the party, and all around, people mill about, comign and goign on their business. Specifically, Chocobos come and go more often than one'd expect.
* One of these Chocobos rushes past the party, and then screeches to a halt, nearly running a pedestrian over. It turns around, stares, and slowly trots up to Jack.
* The Messenger looks the farmboy up, down, and up again, eyes wide.
Jack... Jack Strayborne?
Um... yeah. Wh-
* Estrain absent-mindedly brushes at his bangs as he watches, his expression somewhat distant.
* Raza looks at Jack questioningly.
Why? Because I've been tracking your ass for two FRIGGIN weeks with this lousy letter, is why!
* The Messenger shoves a standard envelope in Jack's face, and Jack slowly takes it, a little afraid of this overealous messenger.
"Well go ahead and read it."
* They stare at each other for a moment. Jack blinks first, and looks down to open the letter.
* The Messenger laughs wildly, and runs off. Another job well done!
* Jack just opens the envelope, takes out the letter, and shoos Mitzu away from his shoulder. He scans the first few lines, and his eyes go wide.
(I thought it was "Jack Cross"?)
(According to the character sheets page, anyway)
(dammit! I knew I'd given him a name. Call it his mother's maiden name. >.>)
"Wasn't your last name 'Cross'?" Estrain asks, quirking an eyebrow.
(*headdesks, and hopes the tension, such as it is, isn't ruined much)
Yeah... But my mom never liked it. Never used it, either...
* Jack keeps reading the letter, having not looekd up at Desil's comment. he gets to the end, and drops it.
And her name's what got this letter out, too...
* Estrain walks forward, picking it up and handing it back. "You okay?"
"Jack?"
* Estrain looks genuinely concerned - he's frowning as he looks Jack in the eye.
* Jack turns to Raza, ignoring Desil. "I... Raza, I need to get back home. Yesterday. I gotta ask you to cancel my contract, or delay it, or something...
"What's wrong?" Raza asks, more than a little concerned.
* Jack sighs. Mitzu just silently watches - this is new; Jack being... angsty.
* Estrain steps back, silently tucking the letter into a pocket.
(Assuming Jack didn't take the letter back)
(Nope.)
My dad's in prison. My mom says they think he killed someone, an' his farm's up for auction in a week to pay the lawyer he gets.
...Wow.
"Did they say who was killed?"
"Oh no...but...we can..."
* Estrain closes his eyes, leaning against a nearby wall. His arms are crossed, and his head is lowered over his arms.
* Jack shakes his head. "Mom says it was some ol' friend of his; she didn't know 'im. And I don't think you gettin' int othis'd help, Raza."
"Either it's a frame-up, or he's a scapegoat. To put it bluntly - was your dad anyone important before this?"
Naw. Just another guy with his corn and his son...
"I can't think of why someone'd try and frame a normal farmer, myself."
But... It's gotta be a frame-up, don't it?
"It'd be a frame-up if he was the original target. But it's more likely your dad was just someone convient to put the blame on..."
"Where are you from, exactly?"
Just west of Ferratus. My dad used to help out there soemtimes, 'specially with me.
* Jack gets off of the road, slowly, and leans aginst the walls of Skylark's Watch. He scrutinizes his boots.
"I-I know a lawyer that can help..." It's all Raza can think to say.
"Honestly, I don't see why we couldn't put this," a nod towards Skylark's Watch, "on hold." Estrain looks to Raza.
"After all, I doubt the mysterious mountain mage hermit's moving anywhere any time soon."
* Jack shakes his head. "Naw. He keeps up, he'll hurt more than just my dad. I can write you guys when I get there... And I don't think we'd have the money for your lawyer, Raza. They gotta sell the farm just to pay for the one they get no matter what."
But... you know any good Chocobo rental places?
* Raza shakes her head, finding it hard to look at Jack directly.
* Estrain looks up, before he pulls out a coin. "Here, Jack. Catch."
* Jack looks up, and-

* -barely catches the coin, fumbling before he manages to get a godo hold of it. he looks at the side on top, and smiles. "Thanks."
* Estrain closes his eyes. "Flip it."
"Tell me what it lands on."
* Jack blinks. "Oh, right."

Heads.
* Estrain starts, opening his eyes suddenly and looking at Jack. He walks over, picking up the coin and holding it to the sunlight.
* Estrain suddenly begins to laugh. "Look at the coin, Jack.
* Jack does. "...What?"
* Estrain flips it, catching it and pointing out a marking on the side. "See these notches? This is one of dad's old ones - it's a lucky coin. These notches are every bet he's won with it telling him what to go with."
* Raza peers over Jack's shoulder to look at the coin herself.
...Oh. Oh, wow.
"I told myself that I'd let you flip it, and I'd go with what you picked."
* Mitzu, having hung back, blinks. ~Define 'won'...~
And... what'd it say?
"Where do you think he got the money to buy the tavern, Mitzu? He was a fun-time adventurer, not a treasure hunter."
"In short, Jack, you're stuck with me." Estrain grins, pocketing the coin. "If dad says I'm going with you, then I'm going with you."
(And this is actually what I planned. Heads, Estrain would go with Jack. Tails, he'd continue on.)
(Interesting how these things turn out, isn't it?"
(Take that, previously determined fate!)
(...Was that, uh, both IC and OOC?)
(The second one was supposed to be a parenthesis. Whatever)
(Although it works either way.)
(heh. had to ask, since it could be both.)
Before I say Jack's gonan need someone to keep him alive, I hsould note that you're nuts.
Having said that, Jack's gonna need someone to keep him alive. You might be able to pull that off.
"And what about the students at the Pallestra?"
"Most Gamblers are. Luck is a fickle lady, and playing the slots when your luck is worse than the average bear is particularly crazy..."
* Jack sort-of laughs. "Thanks, I guess..."
I'm not gonna just up and walk off. Besides, I'm under contract - as is Jack until you officially say he isn't, which you haven't yet.
Besides. Someone has to keep you and Mr. Drool *yanks on Kul's leash* alive.
(*not 'besides'. And. But whatever.)
* Raza takes her own position against Skylark's walls and sighs. This situation shouldn't be nearly as hard as it seems.
"Now that we've fulfilled our 'touching moments of bonding' quota, let's look for a chocobo stable," Estrain says, now business-like.
* Jack looks over at Raza, and looks as if he's about to say soething - but Desil's remark about the stable reminds him of what needs doing.
We have a quota now? I didn't sin up for that.
"It's in the tiny print, I think."
* Within the walls of the mountain fortress-town, life teems in its sheer, puts-around-town essence. Chocobi run about, delivering messages to miners and tourists far from home; soldiers patrol; merchents merch.
* But wih all the travel necessary to get in and out of the Watch, a Chocobo is sometimes necessary - and, as such, it isn't too hard to find one. It's a small stable, but the birds are healthy.
* Jack, seeing the sign for CHOCOBO RENTALS - ALL REASONABLE OFFERS TAKEN, breaks into a dash and nearly slams the door off its hinge.
* Estrain looks amused as he follows after.
* Estrain puts his hand on Jack's shoulder. "Hold on. Let me do this."
* Raza follows as well, though she seems to be a bit cranky now.
* Jack halts in mid-step, halfway in the office. The stable manager blinks at the two. "Can I... help you?"
* Mitzu follows last, and taps Raza on the shoulder. "You all right?"
* Estrain walks up, smiling. "Hello. We're here to rent..." Estrain pauses, looking at Raza. "You coming along, Raza?"
* Raza jumps at Mitzu's touch then composes herself. "Oh, I'm fine. I just think this whole situtation's stupid." She turns to Desil and shakes her head. "No, I'll catch up. I like to keep my promises when I make them."
* Mitzu nods. "It is. But everyone's doing what they think is best. It may not line up nice and neatly, but there it is."
* Estrain sighs, running his fingers through this hair. "Right, then. This isn't something I imagined happening..."
* The stable manager blinks again at the now two-by-two. he sighs - another emotional farewell, probably.
* Estrain looks at Kul and Ladis. "I'll trust you two to keep her safe." He looks at Mitzu. "Are you coming?"
((Yeah, leave me with the Mr. Invisibles :P))
* Mitzu shakes her head. "Like I said. You keep Jack alive, I'll keep Raza alive."
(They'll sacrifice themselves valiantly for you. They're too zombish to do anything else. :P)
((Not a bad plan, then))
(It's like having two Paladins!)
* Estrain nods, turning back to the stable manager. "Two chocobos, please. Preferably a mix of stamina and speed - we've got a good distance to travel."
* the stable manager, relieved that he won't have to handle anyone breaking down into tears, nods and goes into the back, saying, "500 Gil deposit!"
* Jack digs into his pockets, and puts it on the counter. "Never thought I'd just put 500 Agt down and not think much of it..."
...Crazy worthless international currencies...
* Estrain takes out 250 Agt. "I'll pay half, you pay half."
(Unless that was 500 EACH.)
(Naw, 500 total.)
(I'm not that mean, though I could be.)
"Wait, let's see the chocobo first."
"Well, yeah. I was planning to," Estrain says, eyebrows raised. "I'm not COMPLETELY new at this, thanks..."
* And, having that gift of dramatic timing, the stable manager comes back out with two light-green Chocobos. They're both well-fed, able beasts, and they're both rather calm about being ridden across the continent.
These two alright?
* Raza looks 'em over for any apparent flaws.
* Estrain walks up to one of the two Chocobos, one hand scratching it behind the ears. He looks at it for a few seconds, before nodding. "Does that cost include feed?"
!roll d100
Raza - d100: 75 ( Total: 75 )
There's enough in the saddlebags for a few days, if you pln to go across any deserts. Otherwise, they'll be fine with grass.
* Raza doesn't see anything obviously wrong with the 'bos.
* Estrain nods. "Alright."
"They look pretty good to me."
* Jack nods, puts a few coins away, and hands 250 Agt to the Manager.
* Estrain hands over his 250 as well.
* Jack takes his bird by its bridle, and slowly leads it out of the stable. He looks around, absorbing the town for a moment; and he looks up, absorbign his thoughts.
* Estrain follows, one hand leading the chocobo and the other still absent-mindedly scratching the 'bo behind the ears.
* Jack suddenly decides to run back inside, handing the bridle off to Desil for a moment.
* Jack stops in front of Raza, and just looks at her face fo ra moment. Mitzu quietly backs away.
Raza...
* Estrain takes it, somewhat startled, as he looks back inside. He then abruptly turns back around.
* Raza places a finger on Jack's lips. "I'll be there as quickly as possible."
~Go awkward moments...~
* Jack takes Raza's hand from his lips, and begins to say something.
* Jack struggles with that for a minute, but then gives up - and leans forward, lightly kissing Raza.
~I wonder if I can turn around again yet.~ He sneaks a look, then turns back around again. ~I'll take that as a no.~
...Don't worry about me. I'll find you.
* Raza grabs Jack's head and brings his face even closer, kissing him passionateky.
* Jack returns the kiss, eyes closing ad chocobo ride completely forgotten.
"Hey! Lovebirds!" Estrain calls, still steadfastly facing away. "While I love the drama that is doubtlessly happening somewhere behind me, can we wait for a better time? Please?"
* Jack slowly pulls away. "I... should get goin'."
"Find me."
I will.
* Estrain mounts his bird, handing Jack his bridle.
* Jack looks into Raza's face for a moment more. He then turns, and leaves the stable. Once back outside, he hops on his Chocobo and looks at Dias. "You ready?"
(This one has boomerangs, not a giant sword.)
"As ever."
* Jack nods, and kicks his bird, shouting, "Hyah!"
* Jack's Chocobo takes off at a hard run, the rider's yells warnign peopel to get out of the way on the short dash betwee nthe stables and the archway out of town.
* Estrain smiles as he follows. When he catches up, moving alongside, he looks at Jack out of the corner of his eye. "Oh, and congratulations. Didn't know you had the guts."
I didn't either...
* Mitzu watches Raza for a moment, and then steps forward. She looks like she's baout to speak... But then thinks better of it.
"Well, here's hoping a certain elven businessman never gets wind of this," Estrain says, laughing, as they move down the road.
((Oi, brb, my ex just called))
"Both on my part and on yours, I think."
...We just skipped out on our contracts, didn't we?
But it's gotta be done.
"Mmm." Estrain looks more serious at that. "All else fails, I figure I've got enough to travel for a while. There's plenty of ways for someone with a weapon and the know-how to use it."
"I doubt it'll come down to that, though."
Not doubting that. And with all the trouble we get into, we ain't gonna be bored.
Though I'd really like it if nothing wants to eat me on the way there.
* Estrain nods, a motion almost lost in the jogging motion of the chocobo. "Watch my back and I'll watch yours. That's all we can do, really."
"We can probably outrun pretty much anything on these birds, but I'd prefer to stick to the basics..."
"My chocobo skills are basic at best."
It ain't that hard. Don't htink of it as *riding* the bird. Think of it as askin' for it to go somewhere, and you're just along for the ride.
"Well, yeah, I figured out that much. Part of my training at Lial included Chocobos..."
(* Mitzu, the stable manager, Kul and Ladis all wait for Mory to get off the phone. Hopefully she's doin' okay.)
"Doesn't mean I'm all that good with them, though. Staying on the thing if it jumps is probably beyond me."
* Jack nods, using his whole upper back and shoulders for the motion - maing it look more like hes bucking back and forth than nodding.
!roll 1d100
Estrain - 1d100: 23 ( Total: 23 )
((back....and now I remember why I dumped him...))
(Ah. You alright?)
"Okay. I think we just have to follow the road for now, but tell me if we need to change course. You should know the way better than I do..."
((I'm fine))
Road should be fine, I don't want to break my back sliding down the Zephyr mountains. We go east at that retirement town, and it's almost straight from there!
* Mitzu walks around Raza, and says, "You've gotten what you wanted. And I think he'll be the better for it."
"What do you mean?" She still looks in the direction Jack and Desil rode.
* Mitzu smiles. "You got Jack. Jack's got you. And he hasn't really 'had' anyone before... It'll give him a reason to... I don't know. A reason to fight."
The summoner looks at Mitzu and smiles a bit. "You think so?"
* The samurai nods. "Yeah. I've known him for a while, but he's gotten more serious about things since he's met you. And the Jack I know would never have, uh... pulled a stunt like that."
"I think I've gotten more serious about things since I met him too. It's kind of scary really."
Isn't it?
((About what time is it?))
* Estrain leans into the bird, letting the chocobo's neck cover him more fully from the wind. "I'm probably going to be feeling this when I wake up tomorrow..."
(8:44 for me.)
(8:44 here)
((I meant in TN ladn, sorry))
((I'm on EST time too))
(whoopsie. Thought your system clock had gotten unadjusted and you didn't have a watch...)
(I'd actually call it just before noon.)
(Atomic Clock Sync is your friend.)
(Bah. Windows does it well enouh when you remember to set your time zone.)
(Eh, my computer's screwy with time. I need it or it decides that hey, being off by half an hour isn't a big deal, right?)
* Raza smiles at Mitzu. "So what do you think about some lunch? We've got a long evening ahead of us."
(Check your time zone. My comps like to switch it by -3 hours, because they thought they were in California.)
((Yeah, I just rely on Windows))
^_^ Lunch is good. I don't think we even have to feed these two.
* Mitzu tugs on Kul's chain, whihc, in turn, tugs on Ladis' chain.
"Do you want to ride straight there, or do you want to take a break in a couple of hours?"
You have any idea where you wanna eat? I've never had good taste in resturants...
"I'm not sure exactly how long the trip there is on a bird."
I *want* to ride straight there, but I know darn well it's not gonna happen. The 'bos can't ride for days straight, and me falling off my saddle i nthe middle of nowhere won't help either.
"This place doesn't strike me as having any kind of extremely fancy cuisine, but as long as it's hot and well seasoned, I'm game."
(lesse. 7 days across by CMS... call it five, four if you really want to push it.)
