Underhole was, originally, Sandton, a small fishing village on Terranotos’
northern coast, sitting amidst rocky cliffs and facing out towards the Superna
Islands. It led a quiet, sleepy life, until the discovery of the Hole some
fifteen years ago.
The Hole, a hub of tunnels a few kilometers south of Underhole (then still
Sandton), brought about a huge wave of Wanderers, explorers, and people out for
a quick buck. The village, growing at an extreme pace, capitalized on this. It
changed its name to Underhole, sought to serve its new benefactors, and overall
made a huge amount of money on the whole deal. It still does.
As it stands now, Underhole exports and imports just as much and Notos, almost
all of it Hole-related. Underhole is quite happy with the current situation.
Notos is not.
The Hole itself is a giant ruin, like a coliseum, each arch leading out to a
different tunnel. Current theories and evidence suggest that the placement of
said tunnels is not natural, while everyone agrees that the Hole itself was
built by some ancient civilization. Only a tenth of the tunnels have been
explored, and few of those thoroughly so. This is the main reason Mercs and
delvers come - to see what’s in the next tunnel, or if someone left something
behind.
