The Septagram
a Magickal Model of the Universe
My first view of the universe is that of a septagram, as seven-pointed star surrounded
by a circle. This is merely to help define and not meant to be taken
literally by any means.
Each point of the star represents one of the pure elements. The
inside of the Septagram is Order, and the outside Chaos. Both order
and Chaos contain all of the elements, and each element has equal
presence within each universe (1/7 Earth, 1/7 Air, etc), and the pure
elementals are part of, and not part of each universe, lying on the border of each. One reason I like the seven pointed star as
an image for my model, is that since there are an uneven number of
points, no one element is directly opposite another, helping to
support my view on the lack of pure-duality within the elements.
Inside the ordered universe, each thing has it's place. It's place
within the septagram determines the amount of each element it has
represented within itself. The total within the universe is 1, but
each person/animal/object/whatever, does not have an equal balance
within themselves, unless they are divine in nature.
The percentage of each element within an object is what defines it
as what it is, but also the order in which things are put together
also determine what it is. I see it almost like a strand of DNA,
each element combining with another in a certain pattern to create
the whole. Although one thing may have the same amount of each
element as another, the internal pattern is different. I have also
noted that most things that are related to eachother, ie human
beings, seem to have a very similar balance of the elements within
them (though almost never exactly the same), which is part of what
defines them as human. But the orders and combinations are very
different, helping to lend to individuality in form and mind.
