Shelley

This is a picture of my friend Shelley and her dog Cassie, taken in June or July of 1998.  She was one of my closest friends, a penpal who I'd met at a camp a few years earlier.  I still think of her as one of my best friends, but she stopped writing to me three years ago. She'd just finished grad school then and was teaching biology at a high school in North Carolina.  She hated that job, and was totally stressed; she said she was going to quit and maybe apply to vet school or get her doctorate...I don't know why she stopped writing.  The letters just got shorter and ended altogether. The last letter I got was dated February 1, 1999.  I've tried sending letters to her old address, and to her mother's house in Louisiana, no luck.  I don't believe she stopped writing because she didn't want to anymore, I think life just got to be too much for her to keep up with it.  I miss her, and I wish I could find some way to tell her this, to find her again. I don't really think this'll do much good, but I thought it couldn't be any more useless than sending letters marked "please forward" to an address that was three years old, so I thought I'd put her picture on my web page. If anyone knows her, if they know where she is, please send me an email. I put my address at the bottom of the page. Thank you.

a little bit about Shelley name: Shelley L. Johnson age: 29, I think birthday: February 28 looks like: blue eyes, blond hair (well, you can see the picture:) last known address: in Germanton, NC. She had been living with a roommate, Connie,  a dog, Cassie, and at least one cat, Ketchikan, but she moved after that, I think. education: MA in some kind of biology from Wake Forest University, I know she did some research on plant ecology and worked on a paper having to do with the genetics of azaleas while there. family: mom, lives (lived?) in Baton Rouge, LA; younger brother and a nephew, Taylor, who would be about 8 years old now. jobs: was teaching at a high school in Winston-Salem in 1999, said she was going to go back to school for September 2000.     Shelley never lived anywhere for all that long, except when she was in school.  She worked in different camps during summers, all over the US. She likes to travel, likes to hike and garden, loves her cats...she would write me the most amazing letters from all over the country, on homemade paper, in colors, with stickers and drawings.  I keep them in a box in my closet, it's good to hold onto your memories.
