Naturally, the body starts slowly preparing everything. The muscles, the joints, the fibers, the organs and the baby move, stretch, ripen and get in position. During labor the pain helps the mother know what to do. During labor, the baby can change to the right position spontaneously or with positions and movements from the mother... The body comes equipped with highly effective drugs, endorphins, which enable the mother to relax completely (Environment permitting) between contractions... Movement and gravity help things move along and so does a relaxing in a more or less familiar place. The birthing position, to my opinion, is not something you can be absolutely certain about in advance. Your body will let you know. In my case, I think birth in the classical semi sitting position would have been practically impossible, long and exceedingly painful. I gave birth almost standing up... and I just needed 3 contractions to push ( the third one standing). It breaks my heart that women generally don’t trust themselves enough to help in this wonderful experience as mothers. And doctors could make a little effort to use physiological aids before using drugs or machines... |
