The event was still at the Ricoh Colessium in Toronto and this year featured 80 pro riders. Locals Tony Gerhardt, Patrick Millar and (Patrick Morrow) we're meeting Branden Bowes up at Union Station and finding the hotel from their. Both Tony and (Patrick) travelled downtown Kingston, to pick up some goods. I got two TMV cd's and Tony got some dried pineapple. We cabbed it to the VIA station knowning we had to get off the train at Belleville and travel on a CoachCanada bus the rest of the way. Becuase of a 27 car train derailment. Found Branden somewhat right away and began to walk up Yonge St, to are hotel. Me and Tony picked up a local indie hip-hop cds along the way. We droped off are baggage and went out to check out the streets, picked up some beer and rum and eat at Quizno's (frequent event). Went to THC hemp store and got some quality incense and checked everything out. Went back to the hotel, turned on the t.v and cd player and smoked and drank, it was super chill. Woke up Saturday at 8:00am and had to eat rice krispies out of are cups and make are own spoons. We started the day off by spotting a guy laying on the bench outside of are window, so we took the screen out of the window and tried to hit him with ice, this was are new found fun. We took the subway over to the right part of town and went to Hogtown, the local BMX store. Truly a kick ass shop, even though most of their BMX gear was at the Metro anyway. We walked the rest of the way to the Ricoh and watched Pro Qualifying at 3pm watched until around 5pm and then went back to the hotel and smoked a sesh. Cabbed it to the Orchid video premiere at 10pm, got out of the cab and met Jeff Orser and Mitch Harrison, first in line, so we spent no time waiting. Sat behind Corey Martinez, Alistair Whitton, Van Homan, Jay Miron naming a few of the pros that we're here for the vid. The show started with Jay Miron at the mic, telling us all about how as a bonus we will get to see the extras section to the new DVD release of Little Devils 'Criminal Mischief'. Nothing beats watching a bmx video you have never seen but watching it in a swank theathre, with your friends and fellow riders surrounded by he best part; only seats away from the pros in the video. Cabbed it back to the hotel, chilled and drank. Tony stole a sign from are floors, vending machine (both machines we're empty) and ice machine room. Switched up Friday nights sleeping spots and woke up to more makeshift breakfest. Went to Tims and Quiznos and went to the Ricoh for Finals. Fuckin' Sick. LIFE AT THE TRAIL SHACK Two words: Tin Oven, is all i have to say about life at the trail shack. But truely it had it's moments with it's weekend sessioning (something about a glass vase, candels, sublime and several 4130s) several other moments that come to mind: drinking all that wine and jumping off the roof of the trail van and of course using it for the end credits for 'Useless Youth', drinking 52 coolers or when we raided that car, papers and cards for all. TRIP TO TORONTO METRO JAM 04' We started planning are trip to Miron's annual comp, which some say is the best competion in North America, in early February 2004. We gathered up enough money for a three day/two night stay ay the Westin Harbour Castle along with money for are train tickets and food. We rolled up to the VIA Rail Station in Kingston in Branden's Blazer, with Matt Cutler, Patrick Millar, Tony Gerhardt and (Patrick Morrow) and smoked a sesh and boarded. We arrived to Toronto and found the Westin, went and booked are rooms, seen Leslie Nielson in the main entrance. After a journey to the nearest store on Front St. We spent that night in a blaze 23 floors up. We woke up and walked to the Recoh Colessium and watched Amatuer Park Finals, for sure a good show. Overwhelmed by the size of the Recoh. Cabbed back to the Westin and continued the swimming cards session. Went to the Pro Park Trials later on, fuckin' amazing, the number of amazing riders that show up to the Metro Jam, damn Jay Miron your my vote for the Greatest Canadian. Watched some flat for awile after and went back to the hotel. Got denied at two Liquor Stores, so we have to continue the blaze. Sunday, we watch the Pro Finals. Witness the amazing riding of Metro Jam. For the Oakley Best Trick Contest, Cory Martinez pulled a no hander to icepick,It was so sick. Gary Young one first in the comp; second was Cory Martinez and thirdplace Chris Doyle. All in all, my favourite part was Alistair Whitton trying a hugh icepick out of a quarter on a 10ft' fence. We met some friends from back home in Sydenham, Jaime Brierley and Warren Eveliegh and went and caught are train back to Kingston. Some women say Millar taking a shit on the train home along with some crazy journey under the Gardners Express Way on the way to Union Station was what i remember from Sunday. |
