Physical description: Gavin is about 6' with black hair and blue eyes. He has various scars, the most noticeable of which is a scar, a long gash across his torso.

Gavin was born to Sansorce parents and spent his younger years in Lisieux, where he was friends with Alethea MacKenzie. When he was seven years old, the powers that be decided he would be a Thaumatur, so he was taken to Violesang where he was taught magic. His talent was for growing plants (and killing them, if he wants), and at first he was very enthusiastic. Teasing from some of the other kids, though, taught him to be a little resentful of his power, and over time he started to be ashamed of it. He gets joy out of growing things, and likes to spend a lot of time in the garden at Wellington, but pretends to care far less about his powers than he actually does.
He was cut off from his parents after being taken to Violesang, and after a while he built a tough, arrogant sort of a shell. He was very wrapped up in his own world, and condescending to Sansorces and anyone else he considered below him.
At 19, he was promoted to lieutenant and started teaching philosophy at Wellington. He got a kick out of being a hard teacher and torturing his students, but was forced into rethinking some things. He discovered that his old playmate, Alethea, was one of his students, and she told him when his older brother, who he hadn't seen since he left home years before, was killed in a conflict between Wolfgang Faust and Alistair LeFay when three entire companies were killed. Also, since he was leading one of the companies, he was a target for the three sole survivors, Kalen, Lorrea, and Marcus, who started to attack officers after the event. He should have been killed when they attacked him, but was rescued by some other officers and taken to the hospital by Alethea. By the time he made it to the hospital, some of his wounds had inexplainably disappeared. He put two and two together, realized that she was a Thaumatur, and eventually confronted her about her powers. He agreed not to tell anyone, but convinced her to let him train her to develop them. He also went home with her on one of his vacations so he could see his family again, which, though a small step, was a move in the right direction.
Other events, including Lt. Kiley Avenall being "killed" and later demoted, and Lt. Kara Olesia being arrested, have also led him to start harboring some doubts about the Sansorce/Thaumatur distinction in Salaise. Even then, he tried to be very cautious about how far he went to help the other side. At the moment Alistair has him, and many of the other officers, under the influence of Tresa to keep them from rising up against him.
Aside from that, Kiley has got him about as confused as he can get. They met as children, when he was sent to Violesang, and she has been a bit like a little sister to him. He knew she had a crush on him, but tried to ignore it for a long time. However, when she sacrificed herself to save the rest of them in one of the attacks on Wellington, he started to wonder if maybe he did return her feelings for him. He decided he probably did when she suddenly appeared again, brought back from the dead, and then quickly changed his mind yet again when she started lavishing him with attention and being so nice she just wasn't herself anymore. Eventually, that died away and she started acting "normal" again, which just confused him even more. By the time she told him she was going to stay with her brother and she'd been demoted, he didn't know where he stood anymore.

Case notes: Well, Gavin's changed quite a bit from Ravenswood. He's more bitter here than he was there, but with less reason to be. He's also more stable though. He was a big worry to me over there, because he was just so . . . fragile. He has some close competition with Max at times, but I'd say the Ravenswood Gavin was my single most suicidal character, and also my favorite, so he always terrified me because it was so hard to keep the idiot alive. So it's a relief that he can take care of himself in Salaise. He's conflicted here, and confused, but still okay. To all appearances, he's very different because he acts like a jerk a lot, but he's really just a big softie underneath it all. It doesn't seem like he's my favorite anymore, but that's probably because I don't have to worry about him all the time here. The way he's developing now, I figure someday he'll have a personality like Ravenswood Gavin, only not completely mental. Which is a good thing.

Check it out, man! How evil are you?
My friend, I'm sorry. There's no way in hell that you will ever be evil. You're as soft as the fur on your belly. You love everything. You're a friggin baby unicorn! I mean, sure, when you're grown-up, you're elegant and such, but.... you're pudgy and.. ugh. If you ever killed someone, it was most likely because you were too adorable.
