Katy is the youngest child of Brian and Anne MacKenzie. Since it is a second marriage for both of them, there is quite an age difference between Katy and her two older siblings. James, her half brother, is quite a bit older, but also thinks himself too good to visit home often, so she doesn't see him very much and is a little shy of him. Alethea, her half sister, is 12 years older than Katy and has spent most of her time in schools away from home. However, Katy has no trouble recruiting her as a playmate when she is home.
Katy is a cheerful little girl, but a little starved for attention. She rarely sees her siblings or her father, and her mother doesn't make a lot of time for children. When she does get the chance to play with other kids her own age, she gets very excited, not surprisingly. She is also acquiring quite a fascination with Scotland.
