General Information on Elves |
Under the definition of elf in The 1961 World Book Encyclopedia, it tells us that elves come from Norse mythology and folklore. Good elves were called light elves, and lived in the air, danced on the grass, and rested in trees. Dark elves, the bad elves, lived underground, and could move through the earth like it was water. Dark elves caused diseases in cattle and in people. The female dark elves were beautiful, and made wanderers lose their ways in the forest. The male dark elves, who were ugly, and humpbacked, had to live underground, and turned to stone if they ever saw daylight. Today, Elves have evolved into something much more in our fantasy stories, and role playing games. Now to most people when they hear the word elf, they usually tend to think of Santa Clause, Keebler's Elves, or little people much like leprechauns. By going by the name ElfPerson on the internet, I have had many inquiries as to my height. I have created this part of my website to explain that there are many more types of elves than just the three mentioned above. Sadly even those who know of the Tolkien elves, that I speak of, who I believe are tall fair people, still envision elves as short people (about five foot). I of course cannot change this, because as hard as I believe I am an elf (lol), elves, unfortunately, really only live in our minds, and can be any way the imaginer believes them to be. Beauty is, after all, in the eye of the beholder (not the beholders in dungeons in dragons!) I am going to explain to you a few basics on the lifestyles of Elves according to what I kinda believe which is mixed beetween Dungeons and Dragons, and the Lord of The Ring series by J.R.R Tolkien (where I first started loving elves.) There are High Elves, Wood Elves, Drow Elves, Dark Elves, High Wood Elves, and Half Elves. Elves usually breed their own kinds of animals that live longer and are smarter than our pets. They have their own horses, dogs including their own elven breed called Kooshie, and cats, ext. ext. Elves live way longer than any other race of people, and when they grow old, excluding Dark Elves, and Drow Elves, they get on a Boat, and sail back to the Gray Havens, and leave our earth. What happens to them when they return to the Elven homeland, is very controversial in the opinions of most people who know of the fantasy elves. Personally, I believe that they eventually fade away, and kinda become one with nature sorta thing. Not only do elves live longer than humans do, they also have better eyesight, and have better hearing. It is also widely known that elves and dwarves do not get along. There are a few exceptions where elves and dwarves may become friends, but the problem usually is, that dwarves are very stubborn, and elves may sometimes have a tendency about being a little conceded. Dwarves also have a love for caves, and Elves love being in forests. I also believe it dates back to a time where elves and dwarves may have gotten along, but there was a disagreement, that has now long been forgotten. |
