The Juliana Theory
“Emotion Is dead”
Released: August 29, 2000
Tooth & Nail Records

This album is without a doubt one of the best additions to the emo scene. It has everything you would want in an emo band. Ballads that have the deepest meanings that only those secure with themselves would sing about. Emotional and catchy lyrics connect you with the band making you either wanna call your girlfriends and tell them how much you care, or jump around like a freaking nut in your living room! (not saying i did, but if ya wanna jump around go to track number track 7 and track 8) This album is 100% pure, emo and you're not gonna wanna take it out of your cd player.
This great album starts out with one of greatest emo songs by them! This is the song I heard when I first found out about them. Track 1, INTO THE DARK, combines catchy melodies and meaningful lyrics. “In your eyes I see a darkness that torments you and in your head where it dwells. I'd give you my hand if you'd reach out and grab it. Let's walk away from this hell.” Track 2,DON'T PUSH LOVE AWAY, is a great example of how good this band stands up to their expectations! “I hate to think hesitation is a burden. A bittersweet design for a lesson you're learning. She's crying. Can you feel me now this time? Whispers in the rain, lying awake. Don't push love away, you know you do.” Track 3, TO THE TUNE OF 5,000 SCREAMING CHILDREN, is great! It’s one of the harder songs on the album. Not necessarily harder in emotion, just musically wise. All I can say is they sure no what the hell they are talking about and who they are! “Your hatred only fuels us on. Now how about a word or two on you? You're an alias, an email address. We lay alot more out than you do. We won't be part of your revolution.” Track 4, WE'RE AT THE TOP OF THE WORLD (TO THE SIMPLE TWO), is a little song on the simple two. Probably him and his someone. Sounds like he’s having a good time. “We're at the top of the world, you and I. We've got alot of time and it sure feels right.” However, even though the song is great and the tune is amazing, it lacks in lyrics. I get the picture and I understand what he is saying. Listen to this song if you are in a good feeling or you are just cruising. Slow and comforting. Track 5, IS PATIENCE STILL WAITING?, is pretty good. The song shows that great though went into the making of this song! “Now cash me in while you can. We never were the same. Come on. Will you ever have all you want? And are we just next in line?” Track 6, EMOTION IS DEAD PART ONE, is an instrumental. It’s not that great, but has a good tune. Track 7, IF I TOLD YOU THIS WAS KILLING ME, WOULD YOU STOP?, is most definently the best damn song on the album! Harder emo and great tune. Like I mentioned in the beginning of the album, The Juliana Theory, has put slow emo songs on this album and then there is great songs that are gonna make you wanna jump where ever the hell you are. For me, it is my living room. Much furniture to jump all around on and a kitchen floor good for that running and sliding! Damn this song is good. Listening to it now.... wanna go jump but I am writing this for you. Damn you audience! Here’s verse one: ”watch your mouth hold your tongue boy because you're running out of breath running out of time before every careless word that you utter renders you utterly useless now you're drowning in your own saliva trying to speak yourself to the top of your hardcore world well keep on talking just keep on rambling you've got your mouth full” Track 8, WE’RE NOTHING WITHOUT YOU, is a pretty good song. Weird tune but the unknown is always the best. “You took away all my anger. We put away all your pride. Now you're gone, it's plain to see we're nothing.” Track 9, SOMETHING ISN’T RIGHT HERE, is great! This great ballad starts slow and picks up for the verse, still a little slow though. “Something isn't right in this world called confusion. You gave it all away before you could lose it. Something isn't right here on the ground.” Track 10, UNDERSTAND THE DREAM IS OVER, is the second great song on the album. Loud and great for singing along to and jumping in your own given hallway or room in your house. Sorry, I had to copy and paste the entire song because it’s so damn good! “Here is my new disposition. You're about to understand. Our theory is only obvious to the skeptical, and at the bitter end. You're staring at a white page and the print is plain to see. Now turn the page and read what's written. It's your history. Do you understand? The dream is over. You haven't slept in years. Don't be looking for answers. You're better following trails. You're staring at a black screen. Your body starts to tense. When two plus two is five or less it's time to question common sense. Silence is a secret, a weapon in disguise. Listen to the silence. Open up your eyes. Do you decide what you hear and believe? Tell me who makes your mind up for you. Do you believe what you see to be true? Can you tell me who owns the truth? Who bought the truth? What is your disposition? Here is my new disposition. You're about to understand. Our theory is only obvious to the skeptical and at the bitter end.” Track 11, THIS IS YOUR LIFE, is a slow very emotional song. There are a few parts where the music get louder but the tempo is still quite slow. “how you gonna hold out when you sold out? life's a riddle. here's a clue. you see, a moment's only temporary. let too many go, and you will be history too.” Track 12, YOU ALWAYS SAY GOOD NIGHT, GOOD NIGHT, has a long instrumental to start it out.
Track 13, EMOTION IS DEAD PART TWO, has an even longer instrumental with a few lyrics at the end. Nothing much. Just: “Did you really think that it was over?”
Again, this album is great! Got everything you want! Had slow emo songs nd hard emo! All of it is incredible! I highly recommend this band to everyone who likes this kind of music. You have my blessing, go pick up this album and their others as well.
I rate this album 5 out of 5 which means it is the best addition to my collection.
