Getting There
From Dublin Town Centre
By car, the quickest way is up O Connel St and up Dorset St. On approaching Drumcondra, there is usually reasonably safe parking areas on the left turn sidestreets on the way up towards the Tolka Bridge.
There are plenty of bus routes that serve the area around Tolka Park. These include 3, 11, 11A, 11B, 16, 16A which all leave from O'Connell St. The 36, 36A leave from Parnell Square, and the 41, 41A, 41B, 41C leave from Eden Quay. Those leaving from O Connell St tend to be the most frequent.
From North
Take the Swords Road road from the airport towards the city. This becomes Drumcondra Road at the Whitehall junction. Continue all the way, and Tolka Park is the left turn after the Cat and Cage pub.
Where to Stay
Obviously, with Dublin being the capital of Ireland, there will naturally be plenty of places to stay. Finding what is right for you price-wise will be a little more difficult. Jury's Christchurch is very central, and is reasonably priced. The Hotel is Inn/3 Star quality, and has regular special offers. This would be well furnished and an option for families travelling to a game in Dublin.
Where to Drink
In the immediate area of Tolka Park, there are plenty of bars. Away fans of Dublin teams usually head for Fagan's, which is just over the bridge for the Richmond Road turnoff. Kennedy's is next door and is a quieter option. Away fans of some non-Dublin sometimes teams tend to go for the Cat & Cage, as their busses are coming from a Northbound direction, and its the handiest that way. Shels fans are usually scattered in these and other bars, but the bar in the main stand is probably the most popular among them. Most away fans are welcome in this bar, but not in large groups, as it is quite small.
Where to Eat
There are not many fast-food (the culinary choice of most football fans?)outlets around the immediate area, so if you want a McDonalds or BK, better get it in town first. Having said that, there is a chipper or two, plus a KFC nearby. Essential to a visit to Tolka Park, however, is the homemade hotdog, much tastier than the shite they serve up in vans in other grounds. It is difficult to understand why other clubs let catering vans into their grounds to sell poor food, when setting up something like the "Reds Shop" is relatively simple, even if it depends on voluntary work. To conclude, the Tolka Park hotdog is probably the best thing about Shelbourne FC. For someone seeking something a bit finer, there is a nice Chinese nearby. Some of the pubs, Fagans in particular, do nice grub also.
