| Many began to channel the history of Reiki and came up with theories about its origin being from Tibet, Atlantis, Egypt or Lemuria. Others claim the founders were "ascension masters", "galactic brotherhoods" etc. The channelings were interesting, but they lack historical evidence and could be descriptive in nature depending on the energy source they are channeling from. | At first, there seemed to be an unbroken line from Dr. Usui, the Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai. Although finding this organization that claimed lineage to Dr. Usui was excitng, the Gakkai has not freely shared any of their secrets regarding their art, but clues have been uncovered over time. Frank Arjava Petter found Usui's memorial stone with a description of Dr. Usui's life and virtue. It is proper to give Dr. Usui much credit for the spread of Reiki, but Petter also looked for leads of the surviving Reiki traditions in Japan which are very important in understanding Reiki today. Most of this information can be found in his book, "Reiki Fire". | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| According to Petter, there are several remaining lineages in Japan. It was taught by the Reiki Alliance that Mrs. Takata was the "Grand Master" of Reiki and that it was no onger taught in Japan. This is incorrect. Dr. Usui had many Reiki masters including Eguchi, Taketomi, Hayashi and Gyuda (also known as Ushida). These masters then taught their own students. Hayashi had taught 13 or more masters. Therefore, there is not one Reiki school in Japan, but many. There was not one set of Reiki techniques, but several styles. For example, Dave King put together material and called it "Traditional Japanese Reiki" or "Usui-Do". This style is written down by Mr. King , but he received it from Tatsumi, a living surviving master of Hayashi. Also, several western masters went to Japan and studied under Hiroshi Doi and claimed to be the teachings of the Gakkai, although Hiroshi Doi never went past Level II Reiki training. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Today, Japanese Reiki can be called "Reiki Ryoho", "Usui Reiki Ryoho", "Reiho", "Usui Reiki Ryoho International". Some linages names include "Usui Shiki Ryoho", "Usui System of Natural Healing", "Hayashi Reiki Ryouhou Kenkyu-kai", and many more. Even Hayashi continued to develop Reiki as he taught his students and Hayashi taught others after Takata, therefore, there is no surprise that the lineage varies from the masters that each teacher has over the course of a lifetime. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| There are many who claim to have found the "lost" techniques of Dr. Usui or found Dr. Usui's original art. As soon as the world receives Dr. Usui's original notes, then we will all know the truth, but perhaps it is incorrect to focus on the "original" or "right" way because it seems Reiki evolves over time. In an article in the "Reiki News", 1975 Mrs. Takata described Reiki as "...Its ultimate source is the Creator....It is nature, It is God, the power he makes available to His children...."
