After having entered architecture college, Eliane Coelho started to dedicate herself to singing under the orientation of Solange Petit Reneaux. She transferred to Europe and persued her voice studies at the Musikhochschule in Hannover. In 1974, she had her first engagements in Detmold. There she sang the roles of Nanetta, Gretel, Zdenka, Violetta, Liù and Konstanze. In 1976, she followed her carrier at the Stadttheater in Bremen, where she stayed for six years. There her voice developed from the coloratura into the lyric soprano fach, adding to the repertoire the roles in Hoffmann's Tales, Norina, Euridice, in Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice, Fiorilla in "Il Turco in Italia", Susanna, Hanna Glawari and Lulu. In 1984, she moved to the Franfurt Opera house. She also appeared as guest artists in various opera houses, such as the Teatro Reggio in Torino as Lulu and more often in Aachen and in the Vienna Volksoper. In 1988, she sang the roles of Giulietta in Hoffmann's Tales in the Bregenz Festival and as Donna Elvira in the Vienna Volksoper. In 1990, she played the part of Tosca in Heidelberg and in 1991 she was Donna Anna in Rio de Janeiro. In the same year, she was engaged by the Vienna State Opera, where she could be seen in a wide variety of roles such as Elettra in Mozart's Idomeneo, Salome in Richard Strauss's opera, Elisabetta in Donizetti's Maria Stuarda, Giulietta in Hoffmann's Tales, Salome in Massenet's Hérodiade and Hélène in Verdi's Jérusalem. She appeared as guest artist at the Vienna Volksoper as Tatjana in Tchaikowsky's Eugene Oneguin and as Abigaille in 1992, in the Bavarian Opera and Berlin State Opera as Salome in 1995, at La Scala, Milan, as Butterfly, at the Opéra Bastille in Paris as Salome, both in 1996 and in the main opera houses in the world. Meanwhile, she has dedicated herself to chamber music and appeared as soloist in pieces such as Richard Strauss's 4 Last Songs, Verdi's Requiem and Beethoven's 9th Symphony, among others. In Vienna, Eliane Coelho was given the title of Kammersängerin.
