Memories Lost (Part A) by Michael Keens/ Exodus

“Stupid! Stupid!” Abigail cursed herself as she ran away, “Now that guy’s gonna
be mad and shout at me if he catches up!”

She had just been startled by a trainer and thrown a Safari Ball in his face,
she ignored all his cries for her to wait and took off.
It had been five minutes of pure running, she had to stop, she suddenly felt
the need for company, but her Pokémon weren’t allowed in the Safari Zone.
She was only fifteen, and a newbie Pokémon Trainer, she had caught all her
Pokémon herself, no one sponsored her because of fully booked vacancies for
Pokémon Trainers and her immaturity turned some people away from her.
She had a second hand Pokédex, found in the trash, no doubt from someone that
lost the League and got angry.
Not many entries but she could learn things about the Pokémon she caught and as
long as she steered clear of trouble, she wouldn’t be asked for her I.D which
for others would be their Pokédex.
She had a cute little Pikachu called Sparky, a Vulpix called Foxfire, and a
Clefairy called Pixie.
They were her best friends, they listened to her and didn’t laugh at her when
she messed up, they became very much like her and were always cheerful and
bright.
Her rich parents had given her a lot of money to spend on the first month as a
Pokémon Trainer and they stayed in contact quite often because she had no other
friends, they had either moved or left on a Pokémon Journey.
Though the girl was brought up in an expensive household, Abigail was never
spoilt.
She had heard of a cute dragon Pokémon and the Nidorans and was really excited
that she might catch one here.

Now that the boy was out of sight, she was alone again, she hated being alone,
that was probably why she got into Pokémon Training, to always have a loyal
companion by her side.
She would see how things went after the first month and then decide if she was
interested in joining the League.
She stopped all other thoughts, the Nidoran she wanted so much was in her
sights.
She hid in the bushes and threw a piece of bait.
“Ran! Ran!”
The male Nidoran ran over and started munching on it, it would make them
slightly stronger but she didn’t have the heart to use a rock to distract it
enough to guarantee an easy capture.
“Safari Ball! Go!”
The ball flew far, she had made her school’s batting team with ease as a
pitcher.
The Nidoran saw it coming and ran away quickly with its food, the ball bounced
where the Nidoran was and landed in the bushes, it rolled out with a red light
on the button, she had caught the Nidoran or possibly something else.
It was shaking violently and then exploded and the strange energy formed into
something... Something big!
“RRRHHYYY!”
Abigail gasped. A Rhyhorn!
She could see how angry it was and would not risk sticking around.
Still tired from the last run, Abigail had never been so scared.
She peeked back, and soon wished she hadn’t, the reality of the danger was so
much more clear in her mind now.
She passed a couple of signs but had no time to read them, hopefully she was
taking the route back to the entrance.
Fear invoked her heart as she saw the path ahead: There was none, only a long
drop down the rocky chasm.
She looked back, the Rhyhorn was preparing to charge, and was scrapping its
hard feet against the floor.
“I’m sorry Mister Rhyhorn, I wasn’t trying to capture you, I only like cute
Pokémon... Not that you’re not cute in your own special way, I mean I-”
“RRHHYY!”
Abigail screamed, cowered down and closed her eyes, the rampaging Rhyhorn was
the last thing she heard...

Looking down at the battered girl at the bottom of the cliff, the Rhyhorn
breathed heavily, snorted and turned away.
It didn’t have much of a heart to do that to a little girl.

In the skies, two strange cat-like figures flew through the air, a blue and
violet light emanating from them.
“Look at that, Mew, that Pokémon has done a terrible thing, and yet it does
nothing to rectify its sin.”
“Mew!” replied the smaller cat.
Mewtwo was a powerful Psychic Pokémon created by humans as an enhanced clone.
He had lost his way after becoming under the impression that humans and Pokémon
could never live together, and became somewhat a hypocrite, using the late
scientists technology to create more super Pokémon like himself, with plans to
destroy the world so his clones could rule.
It was all because of one boy and his sacrifice that made everything clear to
Mewtwo: That its not the circumstances of one’s birth that matters, but what
one does with the gift of life, that determines who they are.
He made a promise to go to a place where he could learn what their hearts knew
so well, and he was still looking for it, in the meantime, he was making up for
his sins by trying to make the world a better place, but at the same time, not
letting his existence be known.
Because of his power, the world had forgotten about them (and the clones), it
was for the best, no one would try to hunt them down for their power if they
didn’t know they existed.

They dived down, Mew flew into the chasm to inspect the girl while Mewtwo
confronted the Rhyhorn.
“You use your power to fend off intruders, but this girl was innocent. What
you have done is unforgivable!”
“RRHHYY!”
It charged forward, and was stopped, blue light now surrounded it.
Mewtwo outstretched his three fingered hand and all of the Rhyhorn’s strength
was gone.
He and Mew were the most powerful psychics yet.
“Mew!”
The little Mew flew back up carrying the girl, she was hurt pretty bad, she had
a deep cut across her right eye and she had a pretty big bump on the head,
among other small cuts on her arms and legs.
“See what you have done!” accused Mewtwo to the Rhyhorn, it turned away, not
interested.
This angered Mewtwo, not just because it was rude and cowardly, but because he
once saw things the same way and he couldn't cope well with the guilt for
murdering the scientists that once created him.
“You don’t care that you may have killed an innocent girl, if she ever wakes,
she will need protection until she can find someone who cares enough for her.
You Shall protect her!”
With that, he psychically took one of Abigail’s Safari Balls and connected it
with the Rhyhorn.
Too weak to escape, it was sucked inside.
Mewtwo put the Pokéball back onto the girl’s belt through telekinesis.
“Come Mew, let us take this girl to a hospital.”

Hours later, doctors were stumped.
“So you say someone just left her in the reception area?”
“Yes sir, the cuts have been taken care of, but she’s got some damage to her
head... Look at the monitor...”
“No real life signs...”
“Poor little girl, to think she may never wake up. We may even have to pull
the plug...”

The doctors left the room.
Unknown to them, Mewtwo and Mew were watching from outside, they both nodded to
each other, Mew removed some of the wall and Mewtwo floated in.
“Poor girl, you did not deserve this, I shall do what I can to revitalise
you.”
“Mew! Mew!”
“I understand Mew, I understand that it might have side effects but we cannot
let her die because of one Pokémon’s lack of conscience.”
Putting both hands on her head, Mewtwo concentrated, it was a difficult task.
Mewtwo wasn’t used to minimizing his power, but he had to or risk destroying
her mind totally.
“It is done, she shall wake soon, we’d better remove her from here or someone
may discover us.”
Mewtwo carried the girl out while floating in his protective bubble while Mew
sealed the wall back up...
