Amends (Part A) by Michael Keens/ Exodus

The young trainer by the name of Cody Capture had been around since his last
big adventure.
He’d once battled two crooks that made up Junior Rocket, and nearly beat them,
the only reason he didn’t was because he ran out of Pokémon to battle with, but
he had prevented them from getting away with many stolen Pokémon.
His next adventure took place on the way to Celadon City, where he was reunited
with his brother Tetsubo, who studied Cody’s training techniques, and offered
some helpful advice.
Right before his most frequent enemies attacked, and forced Cody to fight on
his own with his lowest stage Pokémon, but because his brother believed in him,
Cody fought hard and won, and was rewarded with the evolution of his first and
of his latest Pokémon, Jet and Muscles.

The little differences between the two brothers was resolved since, and Cody
had been very busy training and catching new Pokémon, along with his two
travelling companions and friends, Natasha and Tom.

Cody still had his Nidoking, Vileplume and Jolteon, the Pokémon he’d evolved a
little early, but now he’d taught them a variety of attacks to make up for
that.
He had his Growlithe, the stone-induced evolution Pokémon that he hadn’t
evolved thanks to Tetsubo’s teaching, but a Fire Stone was ready for whenever
Torch wanted to evolve, seeing as it had now learned all its attacks.
Muscles the Machoke had now evolved into a Machamp, and Jet into a strong
Blastoise.
And also, Cody had captured some new Pokémon, a Poliwhirl called Swirl, a
Drowsee called Dreamer, a Spearow called Cloud, and a Geodude called Stone.
All of which were coming along nicely.

Nat’ still had her Raichu, plus a Charmeleon, a Slowbro, a Cubone, a Nidoqueen
and a Weepinbell, her newest Pokémon were a Mr Mime and a Jigglypuff.

Tom had his Krabby, a Ninetales, a Golbat, an Ivysaur, a Muk and a Magneton,
along with two new Pokémon, a Diglett and a Ditto.

These three trainers had travelled long and far, and received their eight Gym
Badges already, now they were using their remaining training time to travel
around, battle as many trainers as they could, and train their Pokémon as much
as possible before the League.

But after so much intense training, the group felt like they needed a break,
and so they visited a fun place far from home, Pokémerry Park, a huge Pokémon
theme park in the centre of the Kanto continent.

“I can’t believe we’re actually here!” cheered Cody as he ran through the front
gates of the park and stared in awe at the events, games and cool rides that
appeared to rise high above everything.
“What do you want to do first?” asked Cody excitedly.
“Well, um...” said Tom nervously, “Could I talk with you for a moment?”
Cody followed his friend to the side away from Nat’ and heard him out.
“We’ve done nothing but train these past few months, and, um, I was hoping that
maybe we could take a break from each other since we’ve finally got time to
relax.”
“You mean, all of us go our separate ways? But what’s the fun in that?”
questioned Cody.
“Actually, I was kind of hoping you’d let me and Nat’ go it alone.” said Tom
with a nervous expression.
“You and Nat’? But why would you want it to be just you two unless- Oh...”
“Do you mind?”
“No, its just... You and her, I’d never picture it, you’re two different
people, she’s really wild and crazy, and you’re so... not that.”
“Yeah, I know, but I can’t explain why I suddenly feel this way, I just...”
“Go get her, I’m sure there’s a tunnel of love around her somewhere.” smiled
Cody, grinning towards the end of the sentence.
“Uh, yeah. You’ll be okay on your own, right?” inquired Tom.
“Sure, I’ll have enough fun to make up for the two of you not being around, and
I’ll meet you at these gates at closing time.”
“Thanks Cody...”

The two separated, and Cody searched his current Pokéballs for some company,
but also a Pokémon that would be allowed on the rides, not too small, not too
heavy...
“Go Swirl.” called Cody, and the Poliwhirl appeared and adopted a fighting
pose, and then looked around in surprise and awe.
“Its your lucky day Swirl, you match the right height for most of the rides
here. You ready for some fun?”
“Whirl!” he replied.

Cody tried as many rides as he could, or at least the ones that weren’t exactly
childish, the Legendary Bird roller coasters, the Arbok log flume, the wild
Pokémon bumper cars, the spinning Shellder cups, to name a few.
Cody needed a break, as did Swirl, he may have enjoyed himself and shown no
fear, but his body begged to differ.

“You wanna take a break and get something to eat Swirl?”
“Whirl!”
As Cody started for the stalls, he noticed something at the corner of his
sight, and turned to see two individuals scurry around the corner and into an
alley.
“Those two...” he scowled.
They were Lorraine and Larry, better known as Junior Rocket, and the creeps
that had beaten Cody in an unfair battle in the past.
“This time they’re mine. Swirl, Return.”
Cody pocketed the Pokéball and chased after the two, he turned the corner of
the alley and on closer inspection, Lorraine and Larry weren’t wearing their
Rocket uniforms.
Lorraine was wearing a violet dress and hat, while Larry wore a green outfit
and green beret.
They looked somewhat nervous, and were obviously hiding from someone.
“Hey!” shouted Cody.
They turned to him and groaned.
“Aw no, not him again!” moaned Lorraine.
“Didn’t your problem solving sibling tell you? We’re not evil anymore!” shouted
Larry.
“So what, one day you just decided, I’m all good now?” asked Cody
sarcastically.
“You insensitive brat!” shouted Lorraine, “We only joined the Rockets because
they promised they could make us great trainers as long as we remained loyal to
them, and we could have if you and your brother hadn’t got us into trouble!”
“Oh, I’m sorry, next time I’ll let an evil gang steal people’s Pokémon to sell
and test on shall I?” offered Cody with even more sarcasm.
“What does it matter! We’re decent Pokémon Trainers now, we don’t need you
following us around!” yelled Larry.
“Got something to hide?” questioned Cody.
“No, its just there’s a huge queue for those that want to punish us, so just
stay out of our business!” added the sister.
“I’ll make it my business when Pokémon’s safety are involved, get ready.” said
Cody, drawing a Pokéball.
Larry glared at him and drew one in kind.
“Larry, no, we need all our Pokémon’s strength...” pleaded Lorraine.
“Stay back Sis, I’ve had enough of this kid.” he growled.
Larry drew a Pokéball and faced Cody with a crazed stare, but something bounced
in front of him and landed between the two.
“What the?”
Smoke came hissing out of the tiny ball and overwhelmed the area, it was just
lucky for the group that the sphere hadn’t contained knockout gas, or they
wouldn’t have seen nor acted towards what was to come.
“Prepare for trouble and make it-”
The male voice stopped the speech and started coughing violently, “What did you
put in that thing?! I might be allergic to it.”
The smoke cleared a little and revealed two particular Rockets.
Both wore purple grunt uniforms and purple berets on their heads, the male had
spiky black hair and the woman had shoulder length auburn hair.
“This is what they send to get us? The toilet cleaners?” questioned Larry,
putting Cody into a state of confusion.
“You what?”
“We’re not toilet cleaners!” shouted the man called Ben.
“At least, not any more.” commented the female, Becky.
“The other Rockets are dealing with the increase in Shadows, but that’s not to
say we’re not good enough to drag you two back, in fact, it means a lot.”
explained Ben.
“You two are failures.” shouted Lorraine, “You should be named that!”
“Not quite. The Boss gave us something he took away from us long ago. Say
hello to two out of our eight Pokémon Squads.” finished Becky.
“Fire, and Water.” added Ben.
Four Rockets appeared behind them and released a Pokémon: An Arcanine, A
Magmar, A Blastoise and a Slowbro.
“Don’t bother fighting against them, they’re high level Pokémon.” gloated Ben.
“Um, excuse me, but I’m not with these two, I’m Cody Capture, so, could I just
leave?”
“Well... No. Not only do you know of our plans.” answered Becky.
“But I recognise your name, you’re the brother of a guy who’s always causing
the Rockets trouble, including us once.” finished Ben
“Thanks a lot.” Cody said, the image of his brother in his head, but he wasn’t
going to rescue him, he could be anywhere on the continent, Cody knew it was up
to him to play hero.
“Guys, run.” he said to the Juniors.
“We don’t take orders from you!” shouted Larry.
“Larry, do it!” shouted his sister, and the three ran away, the Pokémon not far
behind them.

“Kid, why do you suddenly care what happens to us?” questioned Larry
accusingly.
“Obviously, you’re true to your word, else others of your group wouldn’t be out
to bring you back... Sorry.” he answered.
“Hmmmph, don’t think we’re friends just cos we’re in this together.” grumbled
Larry.
“Who said we were friends? Sure wasn’t me.” grinned Cody.
“Boys!” shouted Lorraine, “We don’t stand a chance against the Pokémon Squad,
the Failure Rockets are sometimes joined by up to eight different squads, each
with a different type and two Pokémon from each, that equals sixteen strong
Pokémon, and we can’t deal with them all.”
“We have to somehow, do you know what they do to traitors? They either
disappear from the face of the planet, or get brainwashed to serve as obedient
or reckless grunts!” stated Larry.
“I sympathize with you.” admitted Cody, “I’ve never been as bad as you, but I
know what it means to fear something or someone, I’ve got an idea...”

Later the four Pokémon and their trainers ended up in a crowded area, and
backed back into the alleyway.
“We can’t let the world know that this place is owned by Team Rocket to support
many projects. We need a disguise.” stated Ben.
“I know just the place...” smiled Becky...

Becky, Ben and the four Rockets soon walked out of the costume shop, Becky was
dressed up like a Tentacool, Ben as a Raticate, and the other four in
Charmander, Moltres, Psyduck and Gyarados costumes, they looked really silly.
“Great idea Becky, I’ll contact the other squads and have them report to the
nearest costume shops, then we can hunt for the Juniors without the public
finding out its Team Rocket.” applauded Ben.
“I see them! Come on!” Becky ordered the squads.
Unfortunately for them, the crowds around here were mainly children, and they
all cheered at the sights of giant Pokémon and crowded round them.
“Outta the way Gnats!” complained one of the Water Rockets.
“Shut it, they’ll get suspicious if you’re rude, just get going, I’ll remain
here.”
With that, Becky started waving her hands up and down and talking in a childish
voice, “Okay kiddies, Mister Charmander, Psyduck, Gyarados and Mrs Moltres have
got to go fetch some friends, but I, Miss Tentacool will stay and entertain
you.”
She received a lot of cheers from the young kids and sighed, “I should have
been a kindergarten teacher like Mama wanted...”
The four Rockets eventually caught up to Cody and the Juniors, trying to get
into an attraction known as the Waterworks.
They pushed past the crowd and almost caught up, but the three had quickly
boarded the barrel themed vehicle, and mechanisms on the long winding line
pulled it forward, despite it being below a medium amount of water, it gave the
effect that you were floating in a barrel over the surface of water.
The Rockets boarded the barrel directly behind, but stole the metal stands that
were placed around to organise queues, and tried to row their barrels faster.
It didn’t work of course, but then by performing the rowing motions while
jamming the poles against the floor they were able to get a little more
distance than what they would normally.
The ride was basically a sightseeing one, with complex mechanisms and fake
robotic Pokémon that looked like they were operating many machines, that and
lots of streams and fountains that occasionally got people wet.
“Nice one Cody.” complained Larry, “They’re catching up, we’re gonna get
barbecued by those Fire Pokémon.”
“I don’t think so.” said Cody, “There’s a reason we’re on this ride.”
The Water Squad Rockets began to release their Pokémon, but the Blastoise was
too heavy, the barrel tipped to the side and the two Water Squad members and
their Pokémon fell out and were propelled down an alternative path far from the
Juniors, leaving the Fire Squad to row forward.
“We’ve got you now!” shouted the man in the Moltres costume, drawing his
Pokémon.
The Arcanine and Magmar were released, and without the other two Rockets, the
barrel supported all their weight, and the two Pokémon started blasting flames
forward, forcing the kids to duck down.
One flame started a small fire on the rim of the barrel but Cody quickly
splashed water at it to put it out, and then ducked under more flames.
“Thanks a lot Cody.” said Larry sarcastically.
“You might want to thank me for real in about three seconds.” grinned Cody.
The first barrel passed by a rotating mechanism, which sprayed a large shower
of water just after it passed, the second barrel however since it was ahead of
its usual position ended up there as it fired.
The Magmar was hit first, and bumped into the Arcanine, with both Pokémon
falling to one side, the entire barrel tipped over and all the Rockets were
washed down another route, but their Pokémon were drenched to the point of
being weakened, Cody’s idea had been successful.
“Oh Cody, that was brilliant, looks like you’ve got a part of your brother in
you.” cheered Lorraine.
“Can’t I get through one adventure without the mention of him?” thought Cody
resentfully.
“Okay, so maybe you beat them, but what about the others?” complained Larry.
“Well, I haven’t quite thought of how to beat the others.” admitted Cody.
“Its far from over, those Water Squad guys are down but not out, and there’s
still six other squads out there with two powerful Pokémon each.” continued
Larry.
“You’re right, it Is far from over, but we can beat them if we just find more
attractions that put those types into difficult conditions.” stated Cody.
“Uh huh, and what would those conditions be?” inquired Larry.
“I’ll figure them out, eventually, we just need to improvise for now.” he
answered.
“You really think you can outsmart and beat all the squads, don’t you?”
questioned Larry.
“Damn straight I do, so stay sharp, we’ve got a lot of work to do...”
