--- Emily’s Third Gym Battle: Lavender Town (by Michael Keens/ Exodus) --- After the day’s trek through Rock Tunnel, I was very glad to see the light of day, still, it wasn’t so bad, I got to sleep on Tetsubo’s shoulder, I swear that after that conversation we had, I was the one that was getting too attached instead of him. Anyway, perhaps I’d find it in my heart to give him a chance at a closer relationship real soon. Anyways... After seeing that creepy man, he agreed to give me a Gym Battle while Tetsubo had to go to the haunted tower on the hill. I felt bad to give him an extra responsibility but he accepted to go look for a Cubone for me. I went inside the Gym hoping Tetsubo would come back to me soon. “Good eve-ning.” the creepster said like a typical vampire, “My name is Alistair, I’m Mistress Agatha’s loyal servant and the next best Ghost and Poison Trainer.” “If I win, will I still get the badge even though you’re not The Gym Leader?” I asked. “Of course, this has gone on for years, as long as the Gym Leader gives permission. Now let us duel in a two-on-two Pokémon Battle.” “MUK!” “Mr Mime!” I figured a Psychic Pokémon would help me against the Poison-types. “Muk, use your Sludge attack.” “Miles, Barrier now!” He was happy to do it as he could do his mime act in order to activate the shield, the poison splattered on it and did Miles no harm. “Okay Miles, hit it with Confusion!” “Acid Armour, now!” “MUK...” It melted into the ground and the waves passed by. “Where is it?...” I asked. “MUK!” It appeared behind Miles and brought its fists down on him. “Mime!” Miles fell back in pain. “Miles! Hang in there!” “MUK!” the Muk shouted pouncing forward. “Its guard is down, Confusion!” “Mr Mime!” The waves hit and sent the Muk into the wall in a purple mess. “It’ll take more than that young lady, Muk! Disable!” “Mime!” squealed Miles getting held on the spot by the psychic force. “Now, Poison Gas!” “Miles, try and escape!” “Mime! Mime! Mime!” it shouted shaking about. The gas hit the area and Miles leaped out coughing a little. “Its poisoned dear, I suggest you switch before it worsens.” He was right, I drew my Pokéball. “Mime!” shouted Miles shaking his head but it was zapped inside. “Miles was the only one with an advantage against Poison, what Pokémon do I have that aren’t weakened by Poison attacks?... Of Course! I choose you!” “Rina!” The next best fighter against Poison was a Poison-type. “Poisoness, use your Bite attack!” She ripped through the Muk, and the slimy residue in her mouth was no problem for her being a Poison-type, the Muk was weakened and fell. “You’re good, hardly anyone defeats that Muk, but you shan’t beat this Pokémon.” “Gastly!” “A Ghost Pokémon... I’m not too sure about them...” I muttered. “Gastly, use your Night Shade!” “Poison Sting!” The blast hit the stingers but they exploded. “Again!” I shouted. The spikes flew up and bounced off the Gastly. “Huh?...” “That’s not going to work.” said Alistair. “Huh?...” I pondered, but the trail of thought was soon broken. “Gastly, Toxic attack!” The acid sludge sprayed forward and blinded my Nidorina. “Poisoness!” “Rina!” She was mad and double kicked it, only the Gastly became transparent and she went right through, which the Gastly laughed at. The only move that had hit it was Poison Sting but even that didn’t damage him much. “That won’t work. Gastly, Hypnosis!” “Rina...” “Now, the Dream Eater!” “Poisoness, Return!” That Gastly was tricky and circled down with perfect timing to deflect my blast and come down on Poisoness to suck away her spirit, she fell to the floor. “Poisoness...” I recalled her. “I guess I have to go with Miles.” “Mr Mime!” he shouted happily, looks like the poison didn’t actually affect him. But I had to think, Ghost Pokémon were new to me but Alistair was teaching me what I needed to know, Poisoness’s Fighting attacks passed right through, perhaps a perk from being a ghost but the Poison attack hit it but he laughed at it... Of course! He used Toxic earlier and Poison moves were ineffective against the Poison-type, he was a dual-type and we might be able to win provided I exploited the Poison side. “Miles! Use Confusion!” “Gas!...” Gastly screamed getting spun backwards. “Got your weak spot.” I said proud. “Gastly! Use your Lick attack!” The tongue stuck out and the Gastly charged down, I remembered the Lickitung in Cerulean and how it paralysed just by licking. “Light Screen!” A glass panel was created in front of Miles and the tongue scraped across it, the Gastly fell back not liking the taste. “Ha ha!” I laughed confidently, “Miles! Doubleslap!” He jumped up and flew forward, but went right through and landed on the floor. “Sorry my dear, but Fighting and Normal attacks usually go right through Ghost Pokémon. Now my Ghost attacks shall destroy your psychic, Gastly, Night Shade!” “Miles!” The blast caused an explosion and after it faded, Miles was on the floor blackened and cut up. “Miles!!!” I screamed out. “The battle is over.” “You overdid it, look at him!” I screamed out angry at the servant. “I’m sorry miss, but I- Gastly! Behind you!” “Mr Mime!” I smiled and cried at the same time, I was so worried about him. He outstretched his arms and unleashed a Confusion attack at close range. “Gassssss... tlyyyy...” screamed the Gastly falling to the floor. “How did you escape the Night Shade?” I asked him, forgetting I had just won a Gym Battle, Miles was more important. “Mr Mime!” he said cheerfully creating a small doll of himself. “That was a Substitute attack, it creates a fake of the Pokémon which takes the damage. I must congratulate you for raising that Mr Mime so well, it was a battle of equal strength, you should be proud.” said Alistair happily. “Oh I am sir.” I said hugging my Pokémon. “Here’s your Spirit Badge.” “Yes!” I shouted holding up my newest badge, a purple ghost-like shape. “Mime!” We waited outside for Tetsubo, and I was surprised to see him with a Haunter and a Cubone, after all the fighting I had completely forgot about the favour, so I gave him a small kiss and a hug as a reward, the Haunter turned out to be a nasty piece of work and he tried to scare me. Tet’ told me that he hadn’t caught the Cubone and that I’d have to convince it that I was as nice a trainer as he was. I managed to do it after some time and I was very proud of my newest Pokémon friends. --- Scott's Fifth Gym Battle Abby's Fifth Gym Battle Back to the Side Stories Back to the Pokézone
