Yeah, this is Scott. Its not really like me but recently I teamed up with another trainer, his name’s Tetsubo and he’s had the good life, not like me. The worst thing that happened to him was losing his girlfriend temporarily, I lost my family, permanently. Truth be told, I play for money, because I need it to bring around Casey, my sister. She’s all I have left and I will beat Tetsubo and anyone else that comes between me and the prize money. I don’t see why my Gym Battles are anyone’s business but since I’m being paid a good sum, I guess I have no choice... --- My Victory of Grey Town Gym (by Michael Keens/ Exodus) --- I arrived on the nearest island from home, a small place known as Grey Town. It had taken some time because I had to go by foot, the bike was the first possession I had to sell and I had spent a lot of time battling every trainer I could for money. If I was gonna raise the cash, I had to win against everyone I challenged. I admit that my team was in need of a new Pokémon. Rock/ Ground, Water and Electric types was all I had and there were still types I didn’t have the advantage over. Yew had opted to become my sponsor as to win the League, I’d need more than just six Pokémon. There was still a lot of time because the Kanto League wasn’t ready for a long while yet, but I needed the extra time to raise the extra cash so since there were no other trainers in town, I went straight to the Gym. “Another challenger.” said the Gym Leader as if I was nothing. He had white curtain hair, glasses, and clothing of light blues. “My name is Smith, and I may be new at being a Gym Leader but I’ve destroyed a couple of feeble dreams of those that thought they could beat me.” “I didn’t come to hear your life story, I came to win my first badge.” “So in other words, you’re a beginner.” “Underestimate me if you want, it’ll make my battle easier.” “In that case, we’ll have a three-on-three battle.” “Poli!” “Rattata!” “Small Pokémon you got there, you must be used to beginner trainers.” I said smartly, this guy had yet to see how good my Pokémon were. “Rattata, Hyper Fang.” “Squirt, Hypnosis.” “Poli!” “Ratta...” It fell asleep. “Now a Body Slam!” The Rattata fell back and woke up... to a Water Gun which defeated it. “I see you’re a skilled trainer, perhaps now I should use a little more muscle.” said Smith, I decided to do the same. “Squirt, Return.” He ran behind me. “Go, Shard!” “ONNIIXXX!!!” “Hoooaaaarrrgghhh!!!” It was a Tauros that Shard had to fight. “Tauros, use your Take Down!” “Bind attack, Shard.” “OOONNNN!!!” “Hoooaaargh!” Shard received some damage to the side but successfully wrapped around the Tauros and squeezed. “Tauros, break away and use your Fissure strike!” “Hoooarrgh!” it screamed shaking itself loose. “Nice try, bringing a Rock Pokémon to beat my Normal-types but I’m prepared for people like you.” “Hoooarrgh!” “Fissure’s a maximum damage attack of the Ground-type... Shard, up, now!” “OOONNN!!!” It was a hard task but Shard pulled it off as always, wrapping itself into a coil as the Tauros’s front legs flew into the air, Shard leapt off the floor as the Tauros shattered the ground beneath him. “Shard! Tackle it!” He came down on the Tauros and knocked it back, it was definitely strong, I gave it that much. Shard fell to the floor, a tackle from that height took it out of him. “Earthquake!!!” “Shard! Rage attack!” It was too late to save him from his Ground-type weakness but the Rage would put the damage to good use. “OOONNN!!!” screamed Shard bracing the quake and the rocks that flew at him. “That’ll do it Tauros... Stand down.” “OOONNN!!!” screamed Shard crashing through the rocks, his eyes were red with rage and he came down on the Tauros with the built up anger, it was enough to cripple the Tauros and prevent it from further battling. “You’re strong, stronger than the trainers I usually face, I usually use my Jigglypuff for easy trainers but I think you deserve to be beaten by a slightly bulkier Pokémon.” Next appeared a huge black Pokémon. I hadn’t seen this one, so I viewed it on the Pokédex that Professor Yew had given me. I wasn’t out to record them all, only when I was unsure about a Pokémon. “Snorlax, the Sleeping Pokémon. This Pokémon is incredibly strong but is known to sleep and eat rather than fight.” “If its gonna sleep, then it won’t have to feel any pain. Shard! Rock Throw!” He dug his tail into the ground and flicked some rocks at the big oaf. It brushed them off and yawned. “Quickly Shard, don’t let it wake up, it looks strong...” “OOONNNN!!!” he screamed throwing himself forward and crashing into it. “Snorlax... Seismic Toss.” “SNORLAX!” Picking up Shard by his tail like a piece of string, he lifted his arm up and flung Shard to the floor. “Shard!” “Onnnn...” “Return! I choose you Pikachi!” “Pika-chuuu!” It didn’t take long for Pichi to evolve, I had to change his name but he adapted to it. “Looks like the strongest member of the group is out of the way, Snorlax, Rest.” He stretched his arms and fell back into a sleep. “Grrrr, you can’t mock my Pokémon. Pikachi, Thunderbolt!” “Pika... CHU!!!” “SNooOOooRrrrRrr...” it groaned waking up. It looked quite okay as if Shard didn't do any damage to it, but what would be the point in making a Pokémon sleep?... Unless it healed itself up. “Snorlax, Body Slam.” “Run for it Pikachi!” He dashed away as the Snorlax crashed down on the floor. “Quick Attack!” “Pikachu!” the little guy squealed crashing into it but bouncing off. “No, forget physical attacks, this Snorlax is much more physically bigger than you, use your Electric attacks! Thunder Wave!” “Pika!” he shouted swinging his tail into the ‘Lax, electricity ran through, incapacitating it. “Alright Pikachi, its paralysed, this’ll be much easier.” “Snorlax, Rest!” It shut its eyes and the static faded from its body. “No, it can heal itself of status changes too.” “Snorlax, go after that mouse and Body Slam it!” “Get away Pikachi!” “Pika!” The Snorlax was actually making the effort to run after Pikachi. One Body Slam could finish the match. No matter how much Pikachi shocked it, it kept on healing itself and without Shard, I didn’t have to strength to beat this Pokémon. “Pika!” squealed Pikachi slipping up and falling, the Snorlax was almost upon him. My Pokéball suddenly exploded and Shard flung forward, tackling the Snorlax while whipping its tail to throw Pikachi into my arms, so as not to break the rules. “Shard, you’re better.” “OOONNN...” he said nicely as if to say ‘We’re gonna win this one, sorry Pikachi...’ “Pikachu...” said Pikachi comfortingly. “Oh yeah!” I shouted a little more confident, I needed Shard’s strength and Pikachi’s electricity, perhaps Squirt could help out too if I planned this out right. “Shard! Bind it!” “OOONNN!!!” “Snorlax! Body Slam!” “Off now!” Shard unwound and jumped off as the Snorlax hit the ground. “Rock Throw!” The rocks landed on it but it picked itself up. “Mega Punch!” Shard leaped to the side but the punch lifted his side into the air, he instinctively reacted and whacked down with his tail. It was a painful strike to the head. “Snorlax, Rest!” “Shard, Return, Squirt, use Water Gun!” “Poli!!!” The Snorlax was not only soaked, but disturbed from its sleep. “Squirt, Return! Pikachi, Thunderbolt!” “PIKACHU!!!” “SnNNnnOooOORrrRrr...” The water on Snorlax easily conducted and did even more electrical damage. “Finish it up, Shard! Tackle it!” The hit was powerful and the electricity around them exploded. The Snorlax took the worst of it and stayed down. “Yeah!” I shouted running forward and hugging Shard, along with the others. “You’re good...” said Smith, a little amazed, “Very good. I have nothing else to say so here is your Basic Badge.” I took it and held up the grey circle in the air, a symbol of the strength of me and my Pokémon. We left the Gym and travelled up the port. “That Snorlax put up a real good fight, I might even have to go out of my way to catch one myself...” I stopped as I saw a blue snake-like Pokémon squealing over the port, it looked damaged and distressed. “Looks like it hasn’t got a trainer...“ “Tiiinnnn...” I didn’t know what Pokémon it was, nor did we have the time to check, I picked it up gently and carried it to the Pokémon Centre. “Come on little Dragoon... You've gotta hang on, to grow up big and strong someday, huh little guy?...” And that’s the moment when a brand new friendship was formed. --- Scott's Second Gym Battle Back to the Side Stories Back to the Pokézone
