Chapter 3: Trouble at Oak's Place (Part B) by Michael Keens/ Exodus

She drew one of three Pokéballs.
“I’ll battle her, Professor Oak!” I said standing ready as she threw a Pokéball
to the ground.
“Queendra!”
“Dra!”
“A Water-type.”
I quickly scanned it.

“Seadra, the Dragon Pokémon. It can use its tail to hook into coral so as to
stay in place while sleeping, its fin can easily cause numbness to others.“

Scramble would be perfect.
“Scramble! You’re on!”
“Ex?”
“We have to help Oak like he helped you.” I explained.
“Exeggcute!” shouted Scramble happily hopping up to the Seadra.
“Scramble! Let’s begin with a Leech Seed!”
“Queendra! Smoke Screen!”
A blast of black smoke covered up both Pokémon.
I could see the Leech Seed fly out missing the target.
“Quickly Scramble! Use your Barrage!”
There was an explosion, and Queendra flew out the smoke with Scramble following
it out in mid-charge.
Barrage was a wide range attack, we didn’t need accuracy to hit the Seadra that
time.
“Once again! Leech Seed!”
The seed hit Queendra in the head and exploded in an entwining mess of vines
which tightened and sucked out Queendra’s strength.
“Good job Tetsubo, you remind me of my grandson...” said Oak.
I simply smiled and turned back.
“Ugh...” groaned Cassie recalling her Pokémon.
“Panther! Get that small fry!”
“Rrreeeeowl...” purred the Persian fiendishly.

“Persian, the Classy Cat Pokémon. It is admired for its beautiful fur, but
because of its vicious temperament, it is difficult to keep as a pet.”

“Scramble! Use your Hypnosis!”
“Cute!”
It stared forward but missed the Persian.
“Scramble! Its behind you now!”
“That Smokescreen must have ruined its accuracy.” explained Oak.
“Panther! Screech!”
“Cuttttte!” screamed my Exeggcute, backing away.
“Pay day!” screamed Cassie.
The Persian spun around and coins flew at Scramble, super fast, and hit them
hard.
“Scramble, you’d better return!” I said recalling it into the ball.
“Dusty! Let’s go!”
“Veno!”
“Dusty! Let’s start with a Disable attack!”
“Panther! Scratch it!”
The attacks coincided with each other.
The Persian hit Dusty with all its might and then flew back, frozen.
“Quickly! Leech Life it!”
“Venooo-Nat!”
“Rrreeeiioowww!!” screamed Panther as energy was drawn to heal Dusty.
“Now... Poison Powder!”
“Venonenonenonenoneno...”
Dusty violently shook its body subjecting the Persian to the venomous dust.
“Reeoowwllll!”
“Tackle!”
The next attack’s sound echoed as if it were being done three times.
The Persian spun back and collapsed, I smiled but Cassie was mad.
“Heatwave!!!”
“Flareon!” it screamed quickly and fiercely.

“Flareon, the Flame Pokémon. This Pokémon can store fire in its flame chamber
inside its body and shoot flames which can reach almost 3000 degrees.”

“Uh oh!” I said, Scramble and Dusty were both weak against Fire, I was in
trouble.
“Dusty, you have to avoid all fire attacks!”
“Avoid? There’s no meaning of the word with my prized Flareon! Ember!”
“Flare!”
Dusty bounced back and forth getting singed by the flames, it shook itself
again and a different coloured dust flew out, a strange yellow substance.
My Venonat had just learnt Stun Spore.
”Heatwave! Quick Attack!”
“Flare! Flare! Flareon!” shouted the Pokémon leaping around the dust, super
fast, and forcing all its weight on Dusty’s side.
“Veno...”
“Dusty!”
“Finish it Heatwave! Fire Spin!”
“Flaaarrre!”
The fiery wind hit Dusty and scooped him up into the hurricane of flames.
He blasted out the top, fur burning, if I let it fight more, the burn would
only increase.
“Dusty! Return!”
I stood nervously, what could I do now?

“You’re out of Pokémon, hah!” said Cassie satisfied, “Now give me all the rare
Pokémon or I’ll use my Heatwave against You Two!”
“Now hang on, let’s not be hasty...” said Oak nervously as Cassie and her
Flareon approached.
Then, a sharp blast of water shot the Flareon backwards and it spun on the
floor.
“Ah! Twinkill!”
My Staryu was up, it must have heard me battle and wanted to help, it was still
a little damaged.
“Twinkill, you’re hurt, you have to rest.”
“Star!” it shouted at me, and hopped past.
“You want to battle, for me and Oak?”
“Yu!”
“Okay then, be careful.”
“Star!”

“Grrrr, your battered Pokémon won’t win, its about to become a falling star!
Heatwave! Sand Attack!”
“Flare!”
“Twinkill, leap over it and Tackle!”
“Star!” it shouted leaping over the dust that Heatwave kicked back.
Twinkill hit it but Heatwave grounded her feet to stop herself skidding back
and charged.
“Bite it!”
My Staryu’s gem cracked under the might of the Flareon’s sharp teeth.
“Twinkill, you’re too weak, come back!”
“Did you think a battered Pokémon could defeat my experienced Heatwave?! Finish
it Heatwave! Tackle it!”
“Twinkill!”
Then something happened, Twinkill leapt into the air, blue light shining around
it, then with a triumphant “Staryu!”, all the wounds and bruises cleared up and
Twinkill looked as good as new.
“Ah, Twinkill just learned Recover!”
“Huh?! It doesn’t matter! My Flareon will destroy your Staryu before it can try
that again! Heatwave! Ember!”
“Twinkill! Water Gun!”
Both attacks hit each other and Water won, flying through the fire, it sprayed
into Heatwave’s face knocking it down.
“Tackle it!”
“Taryu!”
Twinkill spun around for good measure and defeated the Fire-type at last.

“Grrrr! No!”
“Oak, call the police.” I said smugly.
“Never!” screamed Cassie recalling her Pokémon and activating a small jet pack,
she rose into the air and blasted away.
“You made a real mistake when you made an enemy of the Rockets!” she said
disappearing into the distance.
I jumped down and grabbed my Staryu.
“Twinkill! Good job!”
“It appears your Staryu is fully healed. Thank you for saving all my Pokémon,
perhaps you should let your other Pokémon rest, again...”

Twinkill came with me as we put the other two Pokémon in for another recharge.
“Tetsubo, you have proved yourself to be a great trainer, you handle your
Pokémon very well and you have a good friendship with your Staryu, it reminds
me of Him and his Pikachu.”
I remembered a couple of very special Pikachus that won many battles in the
League, one of them might have been what Oak was talking about.
The way he went on and on made me want to meet the trainers he sponsored.
“But, you still need to catch more Pokémon, if your Staryu hadn’t shown up, you
would have lost the battle because your Pokémon were weak against Fire.”
“I plan to, Oak, I heard this was a good area for beginning trainers. I’ll
look for new Pokémon right away.”
“I have to reward you somehow for saving my students’ Pokémon.”
“You already helped my Pokémon out, that's why they were so eager to fight for
you, Oak.”
“Would you like to call Blossom from here? I’m sure she’d like to see how
you’re doing.”
“And you’d like to talk to her too? Okay then.”

Oak led me to his office and switched on the video phone.
Soon Blossom received my call.
“Hello, Professor Blossom.”
“Tetsubo. Its nice to hear from you, where are you calling from?”
“I’m in Pallet Town.”
“Star!”
“Oh, your Staryu looks great.”
“Its name is Twinkill now, Blossom.” I added.
“Have you been at all successful?”
“I caught a couple of new Pokémon but I’ve run into a lot of trouble with some
Rockets and-”
I stopped, remembering that stupid deal I made with Bryan, best not to mention
him at all.
“So, you’ve reached Pallet Town? But that’s where-”
“Hello Mary, how are you?” interrupted Oak.
“Samuel, its nice to hear from you.”
“I heard you made it as a researcher. Now you’re nearly as famous as me.”
“Thanks to all your tutoring.” she replied.
I turned to Twinkill, “This could take a while Twinkill. I’m very proud of the
way you acted today.”
“Staryu.”
I thought about one of my textbooks which had proof of some Pokémon taking on
the characteristics of their trainer, I’d have to say this was true.
A bookworm I might be but I was always ready to help those in need, but that's
what got me involved with Bryan, I stood up against him when he was bullying
young Joe, and then he started picking on me...
“Okay then, goodbye Professor Blossom.”
“Goodbye Oak, goodbye Tetsubo, Twinkill.”

When my Pokémon were ready, I departed from Oak’s lab.
“Goodbye Professor Oak, and thank you!”
“Feel free to come back any time Tetsubo.”

I had just met one of the most famous people in Pokémon history, and took
something special away from it all, I had learnt a little more about Pokémon,
and myself.
