Chapter 14: Lost and Found (Part A) by Michael Keens/ Exodus

We were closing in on Vermilion City, it would only take another day’s walk to
reach it, I had no idea what the Gym Leader would use, probably all of one
type.
Only some Gyms gave out their information, or else everyone would win through
type advantage from the word ‘Go’.
We were crossing through Route 5, the hill was steep so we walked slowly.

“Tetsubo, When are you going to train that Abra?” asked Chad.
“When it wants to, I can’t set an example, I can’t blow up stuff with my mind.”
I replied.
“How do you teach a Psychic Pokémon new attacks?” pondered Chad.
“All I know is, Abras have more chance of learning new attacks, if they evolve
into Kadabra, but I don’t want to force it on Psychot.”
We heard a gruff man’s voice up ahead, a distressed one.
We sped ourselves up and found a solitary home surrounded by a garden and
fence.
A bearded man in a black hat and suit was scanning the vicinity carefully.
“No... I can’t believe it...”
“What’s wrong sir.” I asked.
“I’ve lost someone’s Pokémon.”
“Someone else’s Pokémon, what, did you trade for it?”
“No, I’m the Pokémon Caretaker, I’m paid to look after Pokémon and help them
grow, and this is my Day Care Centre.”
“Day Care Centre... Hey, there was a place like that controlled by Rockets!”
shouted Emily.
“No, no, I run an honest place, you can check around if you really want... Are
you Pokémon Trainers?”
“Yes we are.” I replied.
“Could you please help me out? A poor young girl trusted me with her Pokémon
and its been stolen, she’s due back here up in a couple of days.”
“What’s in it for us?” asked Chad.
“Chad! Okay, we’ll try our best, which way do you think the thieves went?”
asked Emily.
“You came from Cerulean City... So I guess you would have seen them if they
were there, the only other way is to continue through Route 5 or 6.”
“Okay, we’re on it...”

We ran down the area, thick trees blocked up any alternative route, so if we
were quick enough, we’d catch the thieves.
“Why do you want to do it for free Tet’?” asked Chad.
“Because I’m honest and considerate.”
“Another weakness.”
“What’d you say?!”
“Never mind...”

There were a couple of suspicious kids up ahead.
They both had short green hair, the boy’s was lighter and the female, a dark
shade.
Both were wearing black uniforms and berets: Rockets.

“Heh heh heh, with this, the Boss’ll surely promote us from petty thefts.”
boasted a young female.
“You think so?” asked a young male.
“Of course so!”
“Stop!” I shouted.
“Huh? Leave us alone kid.” said the girl.
“I will, if you can prove to me you haven’t got someone else’s Pokémon there.”
“Of course I don’t, this Pokéball contains my... My... My... Hey sis, what
Is inside this ball?”
The female slapped her head is disbelief.
They leapt up and adopted the sinister yet cool pose.

“To protect the world from desperation.”
“To unite the evil in every nation.”
“To erase the factors of truth and love.”
“To extend our reign to the planets above.”
“Lorraine.”
“Larry.”
“Junior Rocket steals at the speed of light.”
“Surrender now, cos we’ll win the fight.”

“Team Rocket, Elite Rocket, and now Junior Rocket, now its getting silly.” I
commented.
“There are many divisions in the Team Rocket and-”
“Shut up Larry, he doesn’t have to know.” shouted Lorraine hushing her
brother.
“Sorry scamp but that Pokémon belongs to someone and I plan to return it.” I
said.
“Don’t call me a scamp!” he shouted, he was younger than me and kids that young
shouldn’t be involved with crime.
“You think I’ll just give it to you, you’ll have to beat us in a Pokémon Battle
first!” shouted Larry.
“You’re on!”
“Four-on-four battle against both of us!” shouted Lorraine.
“Emily, team up with me.”

“I’m first.” said Larry, “Hunter!”
“Whirlwind!”
It was a Spearow.
The way I saw it, mine was the better bird for this match.
“Hunter, use Fury Attack!”
“Whirlwind, back away and strike back with Wing Attack!”
The Spearow went all around, kicking its legs forward at high speed, Whirlwind
flew backwards, edging left and right to avoid the swipes, it felt like a full
thirty seconds before the Spearow was done.
“Go on now, Wing Attack!”
The Spearow was too tired to make a full dodge and fell back.
“Hunter, use your-”
“Quick Attack, Whirlwind!”
It was over, I wouldn’t let Larry get a move in as long as Whirlwind’s Quick
Attack was the fastest move around.
“Oh no...”
“My turn brother, Flounder! Go!”
“Flounder being the name of a fish? Okay then, Solar, Go!”
“Goldeen!”
“Bulba-Saur!”
“Nice move.” I thought, “Guessing the Pokémon type through its nickname.”
“Flounder, use your Peck attack!”
Solar fell back weakened.
“Emily, Seaking and Goldeen can use Peck, a Flying attack even though they’re
Water-types.”
“Thank you Tet’, Okay! Solar, avoid that attack at all costs and hit it with
Vine Whip!”
“You’ve got it on the ropes, Peck it again!”
“Gol-Deen!”
Solar was ready and leapt back, the Goldeen landed in the ground and was left
standing on its horn.
From its sight, an upside down Bulbasaur unleashed a couple of vines, spinning
it around while hurting it badly.
“Tackle it Solar!”
“Bulba!”
“Goldeeeeenn!!!”
It spun in the air and landed on the ground, still spinning until it was
totally dizzy.
“Your turn.” said Lorraine stepping back and slapping hands like it was a
tag-team wrestling match.
“Okay, Bedtime! You’re on!”
“Bedtime?”
“Jiggly!”

“Jigglypuff, the Balloon Pokémon. This Pokémon’s alluring eyes are used to
enrapture its foes, and its singing voice is a pleasing melody that lulls its
enemies to sleep.”

“A Normal-type, no real advantages so, I’ll go with you Twinkill!”
“Star!”
“Bedtime! Use your Sing!”
It jumped forward, relaxed itself and sung.
“Jig... g, ly... puff... Jig, g, ly, yyypuff... Jigg... g, ly, puff... Jigg, g,
lyyyy...”
I turned back to Twinkill who had been put to sleep, hence her nickname
Bedtime.
“Now Doubleslap it!”
“Jiggly! Jiggly! Jiggly! Puff!”
“Twinkill, snap out of it!”
“Star... Star!”
It acted on its own and used Water Gun to blast her off it, she rebounded off a
tree causing extra damage.
“Use Disable!”
“Jiggly!”
Twinkill froze in its tracks.
I could see it doing its best to break free.
“Quickly, Rest up!”
“Twinkill, hurry and break free, she’s restoring her health!”
“Star... Star... Star...”
It was stuck.
“Think of the little girl whose Pokémon they’ve stolen!...”
“Star... YU!”
It shattered the force that was holding it, and spun around making Bedtime get
an early night's sleep.
“Sis...” groaned Larry.
“Pathetic. I choose Landslide!”
“Shrew!”
“Okay then, for this battle, I’ll choose Blossom!” said Emily.
“Odddiissshh!”
“Landslide, use your Poison Sting!”
“Blossom, avoid that move at all costs!”
The little Oddish spun backwards into the air and landed, bouncing back and
forth to avoid the sharp claws of the Sandshrew.
It was quite agile for a Pokémon that didn’t have arms.
“Blossom, use Petal Dance!”
“Odddissshhh!!!”
It spun itself quickly into the tornado, sucking up leaves and flying into the
Sandshrew, it fell down a little dazed.
“Okay, now use-”
‘WHAM.’
Blossom came spiralling back for another hit.
“Sand... Shrew...”

“That’s it, we won. Give us back the Pokémon you stole.”
“Okay...” gave up Larry.
“No, we can’t do it, we have to be ruthless and dishonest! I’ll use the Pokémon
to beat them!” shouted Lorraine throwing the stolen Pokéball to the floor, out
came...
“Karp! Karp!”
“We went through all that trouble... to steal a Magikarp?! Ugh!” groaned
Lorraine.
Giving up, they left behind the ball and the fish and dashed away.
I recalled the ‘Karp into the ball and we returned to the Day Care Centre.

“So, once again, the mighty Tetsubo makes yet another enemy.” commented Chad.
“Hey, its not my fault I’m so popular, I’m like a magnet for Rockets. I just
want to do the right thing and-”
“Hey, a Spearow!”
“Huh?”
Chad eyed the bird in the grass patch.
“I just battled a Spearow.”
“But this one’s wild, I’m gonna capture it.”
Well Spearows were naturally fierce and agile, I guess Chad really wanted it on
his team, I couldn’t complain, different people liked different Pokémon.
“For this battle, I’LL USE BOULDER!”
“Geo!”
“BOULDER, USE A ROCK THROW!”
The Spearow shot a look at Chad, flew over the hurled rock, sat on his head and
pecked constantly.
“Ow! Ow! ONCE AGAIN BOULDER! ROCK THROW!”
“Um, Chad, I don’t think you should-”
The Spearow moved and Chad soon lay on the floor knocked out.
“Um, Boulder, I know I’m not your trainer, but Chad really wants that Spearow,
maybe you should use a Tackle attack instead, your strength should be more than
enough to weaken it.”
“Geo!”
It quickly rammed the bird.
I removed one of Chad’s Pokéballs and threw it, the ball shook a lot but the
lights went green.
“Ow...”
“Here you go Chad.”
“Wha?”
“Its a Spearow.”
“Alright! CHAD THE CHOSEN HAS CAUGHT A SPEAROW!” shouted Chad adopting a
triumphant pose.
“But technically I caught it, I commanded your Geodude and used your
Pokéball.”
“But Boulder is my Pokémon, right?”
“Right.”
“And this is my Pokéball, right?”
“Right.”
“And that means I caught it.”
I gave up and walked away.
“Hey wait up!...”
