Chapter 19: Power Crazy (Part A) by Michael Keens/ Exodus

The next morning, we woke up pretty early and sorted all the Pokémon out with
food, we all sat at a large table, I had switched Digda’s place in the team for
Dusty, and given Flutter a little break too, Dusty’s experience with Sleep
Powder would help us through the cave with little battles.
I turned to the left and saw the man in dark clothing, the one I had seen on
Route 3.
“... I need directions to the Power Plant.” he said to Nurse Joy, my eyes shot
open and I listened in to the rest.
“If you just turn left when you leave here, you’ll eventually get to the bridge
that leads around the mountain to the Power Plant.”
“Thank you.”
With that he turned around and walked right out.
“Emily, I think we should go.”
“Why so soon, I’m not done.”
“Take it with you, that guy was the one who took money from those kids, and
he’s heading to the Power Plant.”
“Power Plant... So...”
“My parents work there, and I don’t trust that guy.”
“I guess we should, then you could check in with your folks...”

We hurried along, with only the directions from Joy to go by.
“Don’t you know the way to your parents workplace?”
“No, only the name, and I have been in a boarding school for 5 years you know,
there’s not really time to come up this way, besides, its usually off limit to
kids.”
“Oh.”
“Don’t worry, I’m sure Mom and Dad will understand.”
Suddenly a streak of yellow light flew above us, it didn’t seem like anything
natural so I pulled out the Pokédex and recorded whatever it was before it was
gone.

“Zapdos, the Electric Pokémon. This legendary bird Pokémon is known to appear
with a gigantic thunder storm while dropping enormous lightning bolts.”

“We just witnessed one of the legendary bird Pokémon Tetsubo... And since you
recorded it, that means... I've got one on my Pokédex too.”
“Wow...”
It was a rare sight indeed, and was something that not many trainers would ever
see.
“Our luck’s up, maybe we’ll see the other two that researchers speak of.”
I remembered that we were supposed to be getting to the Power Plant, to see
what the thief wanted from there.

Hurrying around the corner I stopped myself, but doing so was loud enough for
the man in the trenchcoat to hear.
He turned around sharply, he had a Raichu with him.
He looked about twenty in age, spiky black hair like before and he still wore
the long dark blue trenchcoat that made him look so menacing.
“Who goes there.”
“Perhaps I should ask the same thing.” I replied darkly.
“Just a kid. Leave me alone.”
I saw an open panel.
“Hey! You’re not stealing electricity are you?!”
“They have more than enough.”
“My parents work there! If you put their lives in danger...”
“What? What could you do?”
“What I can’t do, my Pokémon can.”
“Venomoth!”
“Raichi, draw out what power you need and fry that bug.”
“Rai...” it said raising its little hands to the sides, suddenly the lights
shining from the window cut out and all was dark inside the Plant.
“How... dare you!” I shouted running forward and tackling him, we both fell
into the water, I felt so angry at the time that I tried to push him under as
he was trying to do with me.
“Urrrgh! You’re stronger than you look, Geek, Raichi! Use that power you
transferred and shock the water! I know I’ll get shocked too, just do it!”
“Rai...”
It looked sad, small sparks flashed around its cheeks, but that was it.
“You didn’t take any energy... You can stop now kid.”
I stopped struggling and climbed back up.
“Are you happy, Raichi’s still weak, he didn’t take your precious
electricity.”
“But you would have!”
“True.”
I exhaled and stormed in.
“Come on Dusty, Emily, lets leave this selfish money grubbing thief to do what
he feels. I’ve got to find my parents...”

Emily and Dusty followed.
As I departed, the man turned his sight to me and gave me an inquisitive gaze.

Running in, the lights had shorted out, at least in this area.
“Emily, the path ahead is much darker, got any Pokémon that can help?”
“Just the one, Discharge!”
“Mag... Na...”
We worked our way through the large factory, shrouded in darkness.
As we turned a left corner, I heard something.
“Emily, stop Discharge from glowing.”
“But why... I guess you have a good reason for this. Discharge, stop.”
“Mag-Na?”
It did as told, now a distinct glow could be seen around the next corner.
“Over there!”
We ran towards it, but the source had disappeared, the next room had some
light, and power.
Running through the corridors, we entered a large room with an upper floor
within it, there were a lot of toppled tables, and people were quivering behind
them.
The one last detail was the huge striped Pokémon in the room.

“Electabuzz, the Electric Pokémon. These large Pokémon are known to eat
electricity, they can wander away and cause major blackouts in cities.”

“Blaaaaabbrrrrrrzzzz!!!” it shouted.
“Tetsubo!”
The familiar voice of Mom.
Her and Dad were wearing white lab coats as was everyone else in the room.
“You’ve got a Pokémon, save us kid! He’s sucking up all the power!” said some
other guy I had never met.
“So, this is the culprit.” I thought, then about the man outside, and how I
blamed him, but then realised that he didn’t deserve any pity from me.
“Dusty, try using Sleep Powder.”
“Venomoth!”
It flapped its wings and showered the dust from above.
“Bllllaaabbbrrrzzz!” it shouted raising a fist charged with electricity, the
dust exploded and had no effect.
“This is going to be tougher than I thought.”
“Tetsubo, I-... Whoa... That’s a big Electabuzz.” said Emily joining me.
“Mag-Na!” shouted Discharge charging forward, it hovered around the Electabuzz
but didn’t attack.
“What the?”
Its single eye looked happy, I noticed the aura of power the Electabuzz was
radiating.
“Discharge... likes him... Maybe its the electricity.” I explained.
“Oh... What else could I use?” pondered Emily searching her belt.
“Inferno!”
“Char!”
“Um, Solar, help us.”
“Bulba!”
“Buzzz?...” asked the Electabuzz turning its sly gaze towards us.
“Solar, Razor Leaf attack!”
“Inferno, Ember attack!”
“Bulba!”
“Charmander, Char!”
“Buuzzzz!!!”
The leaves grazed the Electabuzz, he roared before the fire engulfed him.
“Alright, let’s just capture it and get it on outta here!”
I threw the ball into the blaze and heard the clicking sound, the Electabuzz
was inside.
I grabbed the ball and held it shut, but he was so not ready to admit defeat,
as much as I tried, it wasn’t enough.
The ball burst open and the huge Electabuzz loomed over me.
“Uh... oh...”
“Blllaaaabrrrzzzz!!!”
I rolled to the side as its fists were brought down on the floor, causing a
small tremor.
“Inferno, use- Huurrgh!” I yelled as a fist knocked me into the wall.
I heard my name called out from three areas of the room as I lay on the floor,
the Electabuzz loomed over me, sure to finish me off for disturbing its
meal...
