Chapter 19: Power Crazy (Part B) by Michael Keens/ Exodus I shut my eyes hoping it would be a quick death, but nothing happened, I looked up and the Electabuzz was looking down at me, I must have looked very weak and vulnerable to it. Then it walked away, ripped a cable and absorbed its power, I didn’t really understand why it just left after acting so feral. “Bllaaabrrrzzz!” Suddenly, two more Magnemites entered the room through a ventilation duct and used sound waves on the big lug. It must have shut down power to their personal place or something to get them to attack something so full of energy. “Bllaabuzz!” it shouted ‘Thunderpunching’ both of them, it didn’t do as much damage as it probably should have done and they were able to absorb some level of electricity, but they looked somewhat dizzy. “Anyone who wants to leave, you might want to do it now!” I shouted. The majority of people ran out, except for my folks. “No Tetsubo, we won’t leave you to deal with this menace alone.” said Mom firmly. “We’re going to support you all the way.” added Dad. “Thanks Mom, Dad.” “Tetsubo, what’s that thing he’s drawing power out of?” asked Emily frantically. “Blllaaabrrrzzz!!!” “That panel controls the automatic doors, if he breaks them, the doors will lock and we’ll be trapped in here!” explained Mom. “Bllaaaa!!!” The cord was broken and the doors lowered. “Mom, Dad, please, leave. I’ll find a way to catch that Electabuzz.” “We won’t Tetsubo.” argued Dad, “Its bad enough we couldn’t find the time to give you all the attention you desired, that you had to join a boarding school, that we won’t find the money to attend the stadium when you accomplish your dreams, so please, don’t make us leave you here alone while you try to save our workplace.” “Sure... Thanks... You’re the best...” Suddenly the man in black and blue rolled under and into the sealed room, just as the doors lowered down totally. “Mr Addison, why are you still here? Did you not get the electricity you paid for?” asked Mom. “Paid For?!” I shouted, “But you said-” “I didn’t say anything about stealing it, my Raichu contracted an illness and only a high jolt of electric power will cure it. I asked permission you know, I’m not a common thief.” explained Mr Addison. “But I... You... Aahhh!” I gave up and turned away. “I may not look it, but I care about the people and Pokémon I hold dear.” “Why are you still here?” asked Mom politely. “That fiend stole the power before I could take what I needed. I figured you’d need my help.” “We’re just fine!” I shouted, motioning my arm for Inferno and Dusty to follow me. “Inferno, use your Flamethrower! And Dusty, why not give your Psybeam a try?” “CHHHAAARRR!!!” “Venomoth!” “Blleehh?” An explosion of flames and psychic energy followed and ‘Buzz leaped right through it and ‘Thunderpunched’ them both. They fell down, electricity running through them. They were paralysed. “Blllaaaaaheheheheh...” chuckled the ‘Buzz, flaunting its newfound power and shooting electricity everywhere, I picked up my Pokémon and ran away dodging the lightning bolts. “Shard!” yelled the man and a huge Onix appeared and made its body into a spiral, then shut its eyes. It was surrounding Emily, Mom, Dad and its trainer, no other choice but to join them, I leaped up high and landed in a heap of people in the centre. “If only I had my Diglett...” I muttered. “And what good would that do? Digda would weaken the foundation of the whole Power Plant.” commented Emily. “I managed to weaken it earlier, but now that its got all that power it doesn’t even flinch.” I explained. “Perhaps we need to draw away its power. Discharge, are you capable of that?” asked Emily. “Magnamite!” It flew out, almost blind to the danger. “Does that Magnemite do everything you say?” asked the Addison guy. “Yes.” “I think its a little too obedient.” The two other Magnemites joined it in the almost futile task. “Bllaaabuzzz!!!” ‘Buzz yelled unleashing its electricity. It hit all three and they looked like they were pain, but then the energy faded. Being Electric-type Pokémon too, they were also able to absorb electricity. “That’s good Magnemites, now use your Sonic Boom!” “Bllabbrrrzzz!” yelled the Electabuzz getting caught in a mini twister but his weight prevented him from flying away, he charged with energy preparing an attack. “Thundershock it!” shouted Emily. Angry, the Electabuzz hammered the floor with its fists and countered the blast with more electricity. This blast was considerably less powerful, it was losing the electricity that was making it so strong. Still, all three Magnemites fell back a little damaged, they stared at the rest of the Magnemites and conferred to each other. Then Discharge made the one decision that Emily had never told it to do, finally it was showing independence as all three Magnemites flew into each other and glowed white before emerging, joined up to each other and becoming a Magneton. “Magneton, the Tri-Magnet Pokémon. When three Magnemites like each other, they combine to make themselves a Magneton. They are known to generate strange radio signals and triple their electric power.” “Discharge, you evolved, and without my saying so... Good on you, you’re finally becoming independent.” said Emily surprised, “Now use whatever attack you feel is right.” It emitted a deafening high pitch sound at the ‘Buzz, a Screech attack. “Now use Swift attack.” “Mag-na-ton!” The star images flew at the ‘Buzz and knocked him back. “Go, Pollen!” I shouted. “Gloom Gloom!” “Solar Beam, now!” “GLOOM!!!” it yelled letting loose the explosion of solar energy and blasting the Electabuzz back. “Blllaaabrrrzzz!!!” it yelled clenching its fists and firing... nothing. Its energy had been drained by the fierce attacks and lack of more electricity. “Blllaaa!!!” “Now Sleep Powder!” “Gloom! Gloom!” Pollen shouted, a blue gas bursting out its plant head and covering the Electabuzz. It pounded the floor trying to fight it but fell asleep. I leapt out the shelter of Mr Addison’s Onix and threw a Pokéball at the Electabuzz, and then waited, it shook a little, then a little more, and then the lights went green. It was mine. “I... We did it!” I corrected myself holding up the ball. “Okay, now we can fix the door problem.” said Dad running over to the broken panel. It didn’t take long, my parents were professionals. “Sending back-up power to all the facilities.” said Mom raising levers. All the doors opened and all the lights went back on throughout the Plant. “Scott, do you still need that recharge?” “Sure Mrs Capture.” he said politely, recalling his Onix. Within a few minutes the Raichu was done with its recharge, basically taping a couple of wires to its cheeks and feeding the power through there. “Rai... Rai!” “How’re ya doin’ little buddy?” asked Scott. “Rai Chu!” it said happily leaping into his arms. “I guess we’ll be on our way then.” “Wait...” I said, “Before you do... I’m... sorry for doubting you, I have a hard time trusting certain people.” “Whatever. If ever we meet again kid, try not to push me in any lakes or rivers.” he said rudely and walked out the door, now I felt really guilty. “Tetsubo, thank you for saving the Power Plant, is it safe for you to keep that thing in the ball?” asked Dad “Um, sure Dad. When Pokémon go into the balls, they come out a little tamer, unless they really hate the trainer.” “And you’re sure it’ll be no problem?” he asked with concern. “Provided it doesn’t see a place to steal electricity, I’m sure of it.” I thought about earlier, how the ‘Buzz could’ve destroyed me but turned away from that, he was powerful but not necessarily a bully. “I needed an Electric-type Pokémon anyway. You and me are going to get along great in time... Shockwave.” I said to the ball thinking about its habit of punching the floor. “Tetsubo, we really can’t thank you enough.” said Mom. “You too Emily, my how you’ve grown. So, you and Tetsubo are...” “No, no.” we yelled interrupting Dad, “We’re not... together.” “Too bad, you two have always made such a cute couple.” he smiled. I turned away from Emily, we’d been through enough conversations regarding our relationship. Soon we left the Power Plant, eager to get through the Rock Tunnel before night. My parents stood at the entrance to see us off. “I know we won’t be able to see you at the Indigo Stadium, but we’ll be rooting for you all the way.” shouted Dad. “Say hi to your little brother if you see him.” said Mom, “Tell him that he's welcome to visit.” “I will.” With that we left the Power Plant and went on towards our next adventure. “Tetsubo, you’ve got great parents, even if they can’t always be there for you, I can see how much they love you.” said Emily. “Yeah, but I can’t stop thinking about that Scott guy. I misjudged him.” “Its his fault, he doesn’t seem the sort to just come out and say what he's really feeling. I’m sure he’s old enough to get over it.” I had to trust people a little more and not judge on first impressions, this little lesson was a necessity in life and all the same in Pokémon training.
