Chapter 24: Gang Turf (Part A) by Michael Keens/ Exodus The next day, I was still in Celadon but very much depressed and angry. I collected my Pokémon from Blossom’s. “... And here’s your Charmander and Kadabra. They’ve been doing very well recently... Tetsubo, something’s different about you. What’s wrong... And where’s your friend, Emily?” Friend... Before the incident, Blossom was sure we’d make a cute couple, and we were, for about 5 seconds, and I couldn’t blame Emily at all. My cheeks still hurt but the only one that could be blamed was me, why didn’t I see Bryan’s treachery was inevitable, and why didn’t I tell Emily the truth instead of keeping it down, believing Bryan’s lies while he tried to use me to steal Pokémon. “Tetsubo, why don’t we talk about it. I’m quite a good doctor and-” I manually shut off the link and left abruptly, I was in no mood to talk, I just felt so angry, my hatred for Bryan was as far as it could go, Emily was gone and she might never forgive me because of Bryan’s threats. Suddenly there was screaming and a small explosion erupted around the famous Celadon Game Corner. The sound of motorbikes surrounded the area followed by dumb screaming and cheering. These bikers were thieves, they wore black helmets and dark leather coats apart from the leader who wore bright purple clothing and had spiky pink hair. If I wasn’t the responsible person I was after what had happened, I’d have left them to it, but that just wouldn’t be me. “Inferno! Blast that bike!” “Char?” he questioned. “I said Blast The Bike!” I shouted suddenly. “CHAR!” he wailed and turned his back to me. “Fine, get back in your ball.” I said recalling him, “Flutter!” “Free! Free!” “No time for that, use Stun Spore!” “Freeeeee!!!” he screamed, blasting the dust from his wings, about half the gang fell asleep and off their bikes. “Hey! Whaddaya think yer doin’?” said the loud voice of the leader. “Give back the money you stole or I’m going to get mad.” I said darkly. “Get dat punk, Rush.” said the leader. “Of course Moto.” replied the second in command, who had droopy black hair and wore a blue jacket. Five bikes soon surrounded me. “Twinkill!” “Sta!” It saw the situation and lifted me up as five bikes crashed together. “Spectre!” “Hau ha ha ha!” “Stop that and scare those guys!!!” I shouted annoyed, I was in no mood to be wound up. Spectre looked a little saddened and unleashed an angry monster face on the group. “Yaaaa! Run fer it!” they all screamed before taking off, except for the leader, Moto. “’ey get back ‘ere!” shouted Moto as they cleared out the town. “No way! Its every man for himself!...” “Cowards, I’m not scared by yer ghost.” “Really?” I said annoyed, “Spectre, Night Shade!” He turned to me and questioned my order. “What don’t you understand?!” He had enough and turned his back on me. “Gaaah! Return!” I shouted. Twinkill was staring oddly at me. “You’ve got some nerve! ‘ow dare you take on the Wild Dog Gang!” threatened Moto. “From what I’ve seen it should be called the Yelping Puppy Gang. I’m not messing around, drop the money and get out!” “As long as I ‘ave my Pokémon, you can’t order me to do anything! Go! Magneton!” “MAG-NA-TON!” it screeched in its metallic voice. “Spectre, get out there!” I ordered. “Haunter!” he shouted, though a little annoyed. “Magneton! Thunder Wave!” “Dodge it!” Spectre panicked and the waves hit him surrounding him in electricity. “You stupid-” I stopped myself right there, that was what Bryan would say. “Spectre, Night Shade! Fight through!” The sparkles of static went through him but he withstood it and charged up an extra strong attack. “Swift attack!” “Hold on to that Night Shade!” The stars hit Spectre all over but he stayed strong. “Night Shade attack!” A large blast flew out and exploded the Magneton to pieces. “M, Magneton!” it spluttered as it fell apart. “Grrrr, Electrode!!!” “Return Spectre, a suicidal ball won’t beat me, I choose Flutter.” I said confidently. “Freeee Freeee!” “Electrode! Thunderbolt!” “He taught it some Electric attacks...” I muttered surprised. “Freee!!!” squealed Flutter. Electrodes usually had no natural Electric attacks as with some other types but they could be taught and I wasn’t one bit prepared in my state. “Flutter, keep it together!” “Free!” He seemed okay, even with my less than polite commands, well it did belong to Abby and she never showed happiness. “I don’t use the attacks that Electrode is known fer.” said the leader confidently, “Electrode, Screech!” “Freeeee...” groaned Flutter. “Supersonic!” I shouted. The result: Total confusion and earaches as the waves echoed everywhere, some strong enough to shatter windows. “Flutter! Stun Spore!” “Trode!!!” “Now Confusion!!!” The Electrode fell back. “Sonic Boom!” ordered Moto. Before it hit the ground, the hurricanes hit Flutter and flung him back down to earth. “Another Confusion, Flutter!” “Electrode, Light Screen!” The barrier repelled the blast. “Now, another Thunderbolt!” “Dive!” Flutter was only partially hit but looked hurt. I really wasn’t thinking straight to let a Pokémon of the Flying-type fight an Electric-type. “Flutter!” “Freee...” He wouldn’t give up no matter what, Abby had trained it well. “Electrode, Tackle!” “Flutter, Gust attack!” “Free!” he squealed flapping his wings fast. The Electrode, having no limbs, couldn’t reach out or hold on to anything and so flew back, into the gang leader. “Ow, what are you-” A mild explosion occurred accidentally, and Moto was blackened. He coughed a few times. “Get... out...” I muttered. “No way, I still have one more Pokémon, and this one’s gonna do the job!” “Po-ry-gon!” In the usual circumstances, I would have recorded this new one, but I was so full of hate that I judged it by looks. A pink box-like duck thing that moved very jerk-like. “Flutter, Return, Twinkill, Psychic attack.” “Star!” The duck fell back, but bounced up. “Hah, good work Porygon, I knew you’d be a steal!” Now I thought about it, “Porygon...” The top prize in the game store, many people aimed for winning it but failed. This guy didn’t even deserve it, he was a thief and a lousy trainer. “Porygon! Sharpen!” The pointy ends glowed. “Twinkill! Double Edge!” “Star!” It flew forward but the Porygon spun and slashed across Twinkill with cutting edge power. “Twinkill! Get up! Get up now!” I shouted. It looked at me again, as if in deep thought, even without eyes. “What is it?...” “Star...” It stopped staring at me and turned to its opponent. “Twinkill, Water Gun!” “Porygon, Conversion.” The water splashed off the glowing Porygon. “Not as experienced as you’d like to think you are! Conversion changes the Pokémon’s type to match its opponent’s last attack. Now its a Water-type like your Pokémon. “Grrrr, Twinkill! Recover!” “Star!” “What?! I’ll put a stop to that. Tri Attack!” “Move!” Twinkill stopped halfway through its recovery and dived as the spinning triangle flew past. “Swift attack!” I said and Twinkill counter-attacked with it. “The only way to win now, is to use Normal attacks” I thought. “Porygon, Agility!” “Po-Ry-Gon!” Even with those box feet, it managed to fly forward at top speed, the stars hit it but it wouldn’t stop. “Psybeam!” “Star!” Twinkill fell back but leaped right up still looking over its ‘shoulder’ at me. “Double Edge!” The Porygon was too close to avoid the attack now but Twinkill received some damage, from the side effects of the Double Edge, and the sharpened edges of the Porygon. This battle was getting me nowhere and Twinkill would surely fall first. The Porygon was an amazing and rare Pokémon but only rich people generally used them, so I wasn’t too experienced in battling them. For the first time today, I thought deeply, without rage clouding my judgement. “He said that Porygon’s now a Water-type. He can match up to an opponents type to take less damage from their attacks... But there’s one flaw, and that was battling a Pokémon like Twinkill... Twinkill! Let’s try our Thunderbolt out!” It stared at me nicely for the first time today and spun around so fast, that electricity was generated around it. “Go!” “Noooo!!!” He didn’t reckon on my Staryu having the power to learn such a different attack. It was Twinkill’s soon-to-be Psychic side that somehow opened up its range of taught moves to learn Electric attacks. The Porygon, stuck in its type, was defeated by the Thunderbolt. “Porygon... Ugh!!!” With that, he recalled the Porygon into its ball, and then tried to get away on his bike. “Twinkill, Double Edge!” Twinkill looked at me the way everyone else had, questioning me because I was out to hurt people. “The wheels, Twinkill, the wheels...” I corrected him nicely. “Star!” Twinkill caught up and burst the tyres with its points, the bike fell to the side and skidded on the floor. It was heading straight for a wall. “Twinkill!” Spinning itself around, it caught Moto and pushed him away before the bike hit the wall and exploded. “No!” he screamed. “Its just a bike.” I said. “Porygon!” He had dropped the Pokéball when Twinkill shoved him away. Moto was running into the blaze. “Wait!” I shouted. “Porygon’s still in there!” I chased him and tackled him from behind. “Let me go! Or do you want to let a Pokémon die?!” I put on a gentle smile. “Twinkill, put out that blaze.” “Star!” it shouted squirting a jet of water... Soon, the blaze was out and Moto was able to retrieve the Pokéball. “Porygon...” I looked down on him hugging the mechanical duck-like Pokémon and found it hard to say what I did. “You can’t keep that Porygon, you’re going to have to give it back.” “But... But...” “Come on Porygon.” I said firmly. “Pory...” It wouldn’t move and looked angry at me. It had developed loyalty for the gang leader. “There he is!” screamed an bald old man with grey hair at the sides in a green suit, “One of the thieves that stole the Porygon and my money!” “You’re under arrest for the heist at the Game Corner and for the theft of a Pokémon! You’re going away for a long time!” shouted Officer Jenny. “No!” shouted Moto, about to burst into tears. “Wait a moment, Jenny.” I said suddenly. There was a totally different side to the leader without his motorbike and gang. “Why are you so attached to that Porygon?” I asked. “Because... Because... I’ve always wanted this Porygon, and I’m sure it felt the same way...” “Huh?” “This Porygon was always on display as a prize. So lonely and alone. I constantly saw it as a kid and I’ve always wanted to take care of it, but I could never afford to buy it.” “So you joined a gang and robbed the store?!” “I’m sorry...” “Its not a very loyal gang to just leave you here and risk getting arrested.” “I know! And I’m sorry! Just don’t take this Porygon away!” Jenny stared at him with a cross expression. “Jenny, please go easy on him. I believe him.” I said compassionately. “Where’s the money?” asked Officer Jenny. “Its... all here.” said Moto throwing it to her. “Now the Porygon...” “No!” I shouted, holding it defensively. I threw myself in front of Jenny. “Isn’t there some way to keep the Porygon. This person definitely didn’t organise this for the money, he’s just a little misguided.” “That’s right.” Moto interrupted, “I only joined the gang to free that Porygon from total loneliness and despair, and I’ll do anything to keep Porygon and make this up to you.” “Please?” I pleaded. “Well, I suppose we can look well upon the fact that you gave back all the money and you look like you could give that Porygon a good home.” “But its worth a lot of money!” shouted the store owner. “How about you let him work it off by letting him help at the store?” I asked. “Well... I could use the extra help, and that Porygon has been on display for such a long time, so I suppose I should let it be happy...” “Thank you... Especially you... Um...” “Tetsubo.” “Thank you so much, Tetsubo, even after I was so ‘orrible to you, you’ve given me this second chance. I won’t forget this...” Everything worked out in the end and the ex-gang leader was able to start over thanks to me, but I was still a little down. If only my problems could be sorted out as easily. I healed up my Pokémon and went to win my forth Gym Challenge. End of Chapter 24A Back to Chapter 23B Chapter 24B Back to Story List #21 - #40 Back to the Pokézone
