Chapter 32: Evolution Revolution (Part A) by Michael Keens/ Exodus

Days after my Gym win at Delft Town, Abby and I headed south, to the next
nearest Gym location, Terracotta City.
Abby had kept silent about Scott’s sudden departure, I think she knew more
about Scott than she was letting on, but she’d made it clear that it was wrong
to get answers from people without asking them.

A large mountain started to come into view, followed by a town at the bottom of
the valley.
“I didn’t know there was a town here.” I pondered.
“Why? Don’t you have a proper map?” asked Abby innocently.
“Actually... I gave my map to Emily, before we broke up. I thought I revised
everything but I guess remembering every landmark is difficult.” I explained
without thinking it through.
“You two were involved?” asked Abby with a slightly suspicious look.
“Sort of, but it only lasted a day thanks to a certain scumbag.” I sighed.
“You shouldn’t call yourself that.” said Abby kindly, misreading my words.
“What?... No! I didn’t mean me...” I spluttered.
Abby didn’t ask anymore, I had a look on my face that showed how uncomfortable
I was, and Abby respected a person’s privacy it seemed.

There was some sort of party going on at a large mansion and many Pokémon
Trainers were scattered around the huge garden.
There were a lot of Pokémon around, a Cloyster, a Raichu, a Ninetales, a
Nidoking... They were all Stone-induced evolution Pokémon.
I looked up at a banner: “Stone Town...” I read.
There was plenty of food on the tables but Abby and I wouldn’t touch it without
permission, and headed towards the centre of the garden, there was a crowd of
people and many glowing lights.
I saw something new and quickly recorded it before it evolved.

“Eevee, the Evolution Pokémon. Its genetic code is irregular and evolves into
a variety of Pokémon. There are very few Eevees left, but many evolved
states.”

“Eevee...” I pondered, this was a rare sight, what with them being known for
their choice of evolution.
There were actually three of them, all being touched by an evolution Stone and
glowing bright before evolving.
“Congratulations Eve, you’re now the owner of a Flareon, Vaporeon and Jolteon,
you are truly a top member of the Eevee Brothers’ club.” cheered a man with
spiky orange hair and yellow clothing.
“Thank you Storm.” said a young girl, around the age of twelve, “Those three
Eevee I raised are triplets, it was an obvious choice to make, evolving them
into different Pokémon.”
“And your other two Eevee?” asked Storm.
“They’re young, give them time...” smiled the girl.
Storm, the young man with orange hair noticed us and came over to us with two
twins, except their hair was different, one had spiky red hair that resembled a
Flareon’s mane, and the blue haired one with a decorative quiff matched a
Vaporeon, Storm definitely looked like a Jolteon.
“Welcome trainers, to our annual evolution party, please, bring out your
Pokémon.” said Storm kindly, but a little loud.
Abby and I looked at each other and released our Pokémon, thinking they had a
strange traditional greeting for them.
“Star!”
“Roooaaarrr!!!”
“Gloom!”
“Blleeehhhbuzzz!!!”
“Exeggcute!”
“Rino...”
“Pika!”
“Vul!”
“Fairy!”
“Rhy...”
“Karp! Karp!”
“Hypno.”
“Okay, so that’s two Leaf Stones for the turquoise kid, plus a Water and a Moon
Stone, and a Fire, Thunder and Moon Stone for the girl.” listed Storm, and his
brothers retrieved many evolution Stones.
Abby and I blocked off the Pokémon before they could get close to touching them
with the Stones.
“Um, what are you doing?” I asked accusingly but calmly.
“Evolving your Pokémon, that’s what you want, right?” said the red guy.
“To join our club?” asked the one in blue.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I don’t want to evolve my Pokémon
before their time, I know how Eevees are okay to evolve early but I just don’t
think that way.” I said.
“Surely you want to evolve one of your Pokémon?” suggested Storm, “This Vulpix
and Pikachu look really developed, so how about-”
“Do it, and die.” said Abby firmly.
“Pyro, Rainer, we have a problem.” pondered Storm.
“We at the Eevee brothers club cannot permit you to enter our club unless you
have a Stone-Induced evolution Pokémon that’s evolved.” said Pyro.
“Yeah.” said Rainer, “Its a long and glorious tradition and-”
“Brothers!” shouted a young kid with short brown hair and a green shirt, when
he got close, I noticed that he had an Eevee.
“Brothers, I organised the meeting room, its all ready, is it my turn to chair
the meeting?”
I looked up at Storm and gave him an unamused gaze.
“W, well, you see, Mikey’s the only exception, cos he’s our brother, see?” he
spluttered, a drop of sweat clearly hanging off his head.
“I don’t think I want to join your club, not if that’s the admission fee.” I
muttered.
“You should, Mister.” said Mikey, “Its very helpful for Pokémon Trainers, we
have discussions and battles and events, and we send stuff to trainers who are
on the move.”
“Sounds tempting, but I don’t want to evolve any of my Pokémon until they want
to.” I explained.
“Ignore my older brothers, I broke their tradition last year by training Eevee
here, and they’re still bitter about it...”
“Eui!” cried his Eevee happily.

Later on we’d been given a tour of the club and sat in a discussion group,
Mikey told us how two bad guys and a talking Meowth (only one idiot group that
matched that description), had tried to steal many Pokémon, but it all came
down to him and his Eevee, he went against his brothers’ rules and beat Team
Rocket’s Pokémon on his own, and without evolving his Eevee.
We also met a trainer called Carrie, sister of the Eevee gal, Eve, she shared
my views on evolution and showed us around, she was a good speaker in the
discussion, and had short auburn hair, blue eyes and pink and yellow clothing
with a blue skirt.

“So will you be staying long?” she asked as we returned to the garden party.
“I don’t know, I’m kind of edgy about those brothers and their views.” I
replied.
“Don’t worry about them, they won’t try evolving your Pokémon again, I’ve got a
Growlithe and a Nidorina that I’m not ready to evolve and they have to respect
that choice, they don’t like it when their tradition gets broken but they have
to endure it!” grinned Carrie.
“Thanks Carrie.” I smiled.
“Sis! Sis!” called Eve, she was the same age as my brother Cody, but the age
difference between the sisters was about six years, and Carrie was older than
me by a year or so.
Eve had a darker shade of brown in her hair, which was long, spiky and in
pig-tails, she wore a colourful dress with reds, yellows, and blues, the
colours of her newest Pokémon.
“Sis, I... New members? Can I battle ‘em?”
“Now Eve, you don’t have to battle every-”
“Sure.” I replied.
“And we’ll only used Stone-induced evolution Pokémon, okay?” said Eve firmly.
“Sure.” I replied.

“Go! Jolteon!”
“Go Scramble!”
“Jol-Teon!”
“Exeggcute!”
Eve was confused, “Uh, you do know Leaf Stones are available here for free.”
“Of course.” I replied calmly.
“Then why aren’t you evolving that Exeggcute?”
“Pokémon isn’t all about evolution, with most Pokémon, evolving them too soon
erases certain attacks, you can never go back, but that’s not really a problem
for your Eevees.”
“Oh great, another one like sis.” moaned Eve, “I wanted a challenge.”
“And a challenge you shall have.” I said darkly, “Scramble!... Barrage!”
Eve gasped, “Jolteon, Agility!”
The Jolteon seemingly teleported out of danger and the eggs bombarded the area
he was in.
“You’re crazy, you know that? I’m gonna win.”
“If you do, I’ll buy you an ice cream or something.” I said calmly and
confidently against that statement.
“Jolteon! Double Kick!”
The Jolteon spun back and kicked Scramble with its hind legs, but it didn’t
damage it too much, Psychic-types had a resistance over Fighting attacks.
“Confusion!”
“Jjjjjjolt!!!” growled the Jolteon as it was lifted into the air and thrown to
the floor.
“Use your Leech Seed!”
“Ex!!!”
A single seed exploded into many vines which tied up the Jolteon.
“Try your Solar Beam!”
“Ex...” groaned the eggs as they charged up, I’d trained Scramble for a while
now and it seemed ready to learn the ultimate Grass-type attack.
“Jolteon! Get out of there! Use Bite!”
It started chewing the vines and broke free, it shot towards Scramble but was
then blasted by the white beam and thrown out of the following explosion.
“Ex... egg... CUTE!!!”
It landed on its side and pulled itself up after being so damaged.
“Pin Missile!” shouted Eve.
“Stun Spore!” I shouted.
Both attacks passed through each other and hit their mark, Scramble stayed
strong even after a double effective type attack and the Jolteon fell to the
floor paralysed.
“Return.” we both said, it wasn’t advisable for Scramble to continue.
“You got lucky, I choose Vaporeon.”
“Vaporrr!!!”
“Go! Pollen!”
“Gloom! Gloom!”
“Looks good, but its not at its final stage.” commented Eve, “Vaporeon! Acid
Armour!”
“That means we can’t get to close, but you don’t have to, Pollen.” I said as
the Vaporeon glowed with a violet shine.
“Use Quick Attack!”
“Mega Drain!”
A large sphere of green was drawn out of the Vaporeon and it lost its
concentration and tripped.
“Now use Petal Dance!”
“Gloom!”
One spin was all it took to render the Vaporeon unconscious.
“Grrrr, I’ll beat you yet, Flareon!”
“Flareon!” it screamed.
“But you’ve lost.” I exclaimed.
“Flareon has the type advantage against your two Grass-types.”
“Sure it does, if you can get past Twinkill.”
“Star!”
“We have to win, you’re Stage 2, and that’s a Stage 1, Flareon, use Ember!”
“Light Screen!”
“Star!”
I’d been waiting a long time for this move and finally all my training with
Twinkill paid off, the transparent shield came up and blocked off the
fireball.
“Take Down!” shouted Eve.
“Minimize!” I shouted.
The Flareon leapt onto nothing, and Twinkill tackled her from above and then
looked at me for instructions.
Some time ago, I was told to let Pokémon take initiative sometimes, it was
Bryan actually, though he was a sore loser, that strategy was necessary as many
trainers did this too, and since I’d spent so much time with Twinkill, it’d
become a little more like me, helpful, kind and tactical about situations.
“Can you use Hydro Pump yet?” I asked.
Twinkill shook sideways.
“Okay then, Bubblebeam!”
“Star!!!”
“Flare!!!” squealed Flareon as it tumbled back to Eve.
Twinkill spun around me and I slapped a hand against one of its points.

Eve was on the floor dismayed.
“How could he win? My Eevees evolved!”
“Eve, Pokémon isn’t all about evolutions, I bet he’s trained those Pokémon for
ages, that’s all that caused you to lose, lack of experience.” said Carrie
softly as she picked her sister up from the floor.
Eve sniffed as she approached me and slowly raised her hand, I took it and
shook gently.
“Good match, Mister.”
“The name’s Tetsubo.”
All four of us sat down and ate.
It turned out that aside from the three evolved Eevee, Eve had two baby Eevee,
but she wasn’t rushing them into evolution.
She misjudged the strength of my Pokémon compared to her evolved Pokémon, but
she knew about their maturity levels, and the time when they should evolve, her
three Eevees were all prepared to evolve when they did, and that was a good
thing.
Suddenly a huge Venomoth robot loomed over the garden, everyone looked up to
see huge wires flying around at all angles and tangling up the Pokémon,
including the brothers’ and Eve’s, and then yanking them into a cargo room on
the bottom of the robot.
“No!” she screamed.
“Heh heh heh heh heh heh.”
I recognised that voice, but it was vague.
A mobile phone rung and was heard at high volume due to the speakers.
That made the hypothesis clear, it was Jonathan and Geneva, the Executive
Rockets.

“We’re the head honchos, the ones in charge.”
“Our deeds are big and our schemes are large.”
“You can’t win, you’re soon going down.”
“We’ll inherit the company, we’ll be wearing the crown.”
“Jonathan.”
“And Geneva.”
“We’re the Executive Rockets and what we say, goes.”
“And you’re going to face your greatest foes.”

“... But not today.” added Jonathan, “We’ll be taking all of your evolved
Pokémon as a present for the Boss.”
“Goodbye now.” added Geneva, and then she spluttered, “Not the trainers, I
meant the guy on the other end of the phone, I mean-”
“Just keep quiet Geneva and help me with the controls.” moaned Jonathan.
I used the confusion as an opportunity to grab a wire that hadn’t captured a
Pokémon, I was taken with the machine as it took off, but so was someone else.
“Carrie! Don’t do it, these guys are dangerous!”
“You think I haven’t dealt with Rockets before?” she shouted back.
I sighed, at least I’d get some help to save all the Pokémon, the wires were
pulled in with all the Pokémon, and us, the two stowaways.
