Chapter 32: Evolution Revolution (Part B) by Michael Keens/ Exodus The Venomoth robot flew for about ten minutes before coming to a stop. “Check the Pokémon before we go any further, make sure the wrap traps are keeping them secure.” ordered Jonathan. “But why do I have to do it?” moaned Geneva. “Cos I’m scanning the vicinity to make sure no one followed us, and I’m pretty sure you won’t do a thorough job of it. That phone shouldn’t interfere too much with the task I’ve given you, will it?” explained Jonathan. “It might scare some Pokémon.” muttered Geneva. “And if they attack you, it’ll teach you something about phone calls on the job!” yelled Jonathan. We heard Geneva’s footsteps and hid behind Eve’s Pokémon, they knew Carrie so they wouldn’t be scared of us and would co-operate. The shutter was opened and Geneva was on the phone, to her boyfriend by the sound of it. “I know, and then I said ‘Get outta here.’ and-” “Flareon!!!” shouted Eve’s Flareon. “Excuse me. Hey shuddup back there!” yelled Geneva. “Vaporrr!!!” said the Vaporeon loudly. “Sorry, these stupid Pokémon are acting up, I’ll call you back... Aw, you’ll call me?... Okay then.” “Jolteon!!!” “Oh, that is it, all of you stupid Pokémon are getting punishment right-” Carrie and I came out of hiding, Carrie threw her fist forward and managed to knock out Geneva with one punch, I looked at her in surprise. “What was that for?” I asked. “I can’t stand Rockets, my family once got caught up in one of their heists and Eve got hurt pretty bad, she doesn’t remember it but I do.” said Carrie firmly. “You hate them with a vengeance.” I pondered out loud. “I’d never stoop to their level, so don’t worry, now let’s get to the cockpit and deliver the Pokémon back to their trainers.” she said decisively. “Uuunnngghhh...” groaned Geneva, trying to pick herself up, Carrie shot a look at her and approached her menacingly... Jonathan was in the cockpit, scanning the area around the robot, there was a lifesign, but it was just Geneva, he could hear her talking on the phone as always. “... I hate you! I hate you! I HATE YOU! Its over! I never want to speak to you again!” Jonathan exhaled in a surprised way, “Geneva split up with her guy? They’ve been together for years and Geneva was never away from him with that accursed phone... Maybe she’ll need a shoulder to cry on, and a guy to catch her on the rebound...” The other passenger door opened and the phone was thrown at Jonathan’s face... Carrie dragged Jonathan back to the cargo room with all the Pokémon and his partner, I was there waiting. Carrie suspected they might be scanning the area and assured me that she could take care of things herself, and she’d managed to complicate Geneva’s relationship with her guy by imitating her. Carrie wasn’t quite an innocent quiet girl like she appeared, Team Rocket had changed her and she was quite an independent woman and a real tough girl in the face of danger. We clambered into the driver’s seat and soon found out how to pilot the robot, well, sort of... Back in Stone Town, trainers were getting anxious. “Tetsubo is not a Rocket.” said Abby firmly. “And neither is Sis!” added Eve. “He’s going to beat those executives and bring back your Pokémon, I’m sure of it.” explained Abby. “He’d better, or I’ll call in Officer Jenny, you could be keeping us from interfering with those Rockets, you’re not even a member of the club.” ranted a trainer with short hair in a dull turquoise tone, who owned a Ninetales. “But I am!” shouted Eve, “Mister Tetsubo is a good trainer and I’m sure Abby is right, he and Sis will bring back all the Pokémon.” “What’s that?” he asked, looking up. The Venomoth robot flew into the area rather strangely, it shook to the sides and raised and lowered altitude, the people quickly cleared the area. Carrie and I made a rough and careless landing, its not like we knew how to fly machines like this. “We got the Pokémon back!” shouted Carrie, and the people cheered, Abby and Eve looked very relieved to see us. Carrie and I opened the shutter and six Pokémon lunged at us. Jonathan and Geneva stood confidently at the doorway. “Hey, they brought us back to the party.” said Geneva. “Then we’ll just have to steal some more Pokémon while we’re here, your plan backfired, kid.” smiled Jonathan. “Grrrr! Go! Everybody!” shouted Carrie, and her six Pokémon appeared and tackled an opponent. “Carrie, need some help?” I offered. “No Tetsubo, I’m not going to let them get away with the Pokémon, and I’ll defeat them by my hand.” Her Pokémon chose an opponent in which they had the advantage over, by type or a well aimed guess. “PINSIR!!!” Beetle, Jonathan’s Pinsir, lunged towards the two of us, but a huge flame blasted through the bug and it stopped dead in its tracks, Carrie’s Growlithe, Pup, pounced on the Pinsir and they rolled backwards in a struggle. “Raticate!!!” shouted Vermin, jumping forward with its mouth open and teeth glinting. “Tung!” But Slurp, Carrie’s Lickitung wrapped its tongue around Vermin before it got close and lifted it into the air, it licked across its face, and paralysed it. “Koffing!” Smogger raised itself and then came down on Carrie’s Krabby, Crustacean, it failed totally and got caught in its pincer, with a small snip, Smogger burst and blew away like a deflated balloon. “Dig!!!” teased Spade, sticking its tongue out at Rattler, Geneva’s Ekans. “Kans!!!” screamed Rattler in reply, and the Diglett dug into the ground, Rattler soon followed. There were sounds of roaring and hitting from both Pokémon and Rattler burst out hurt. “Dig!” shouted Spade, bringing up a hill of rocks and burying the Ekans with its Rock Slide attack. “Shellder!” shouted Pearl as it tried to clamp down on Messy the Tangela. “Gela!” retaliated the Tangela and wrapped it up in vines, slammed it on the floor a couple of times, and then absorbed its health with a Mega Drain. Finally, Despair, the miserable Gloom, shot out a mist of Stun Spore, Nina disappeared inside the mist, and then appeared over it, she pounced on the Gloom and shot out a blaze of poisonous spines on the sad Pokémon. All six Pokémon were beaten with ease by Carrie’s, I looked at her and her Pokémon, surprised, but then smiled, the last time I took on the executives, my Pokémon weren’t at their best. The enemy Pokémon all fell in a pile next to the robot. “Whaaaaat?!” screamed Jonathan, “How could she beat all our Pokémon?!...” He noticed that Geneva wasn’t with him, guarding the Pokémon. There was a ringing from inside the cockpit, followed by Geneva’s pleading. “I said nothing of the sort! Please don’t dump me!” “Um... Good idea.” said Jonathan closing the shutter, recalling his Pokémon, and carrying Geneva’s to the cockpit. “You may have defeated our Pokémon, but you’ll never defeat this machine!” he shouted through a speaker. Carrie shivered but I comforted her, “Don’t worry Carrie, I’ve beaten plenty of machines like this, all we need is teamwork and faith in our Pokémon.” “Okay then. Go! Pup!” she said. “I choose you Inferno!” I yelled. “Nightmare...” added Abby. “Growwlll!!!” “Hypno...” “...” Inferno turned his back to us. “Inferno, we need you...” I pleaded. Abby and Carrie were surprised. “You have a Charizard now?” questioned Abby. “But why isn’t it listening to you?” asked Carrie. “Return Inferno, Go Shockwave!” I said a little annoyed. “Bllleeehhhbuzzz!!!” “Nightmare, use Psychic.” The robot started to shake and rattle, and was surrounded in a blue light that brought it back to earth. “Pup! Use Ember attack!” “Growllll!!!” shouted the dog firing a long blazing flame which melted the screen of the cockpit. “Now Shockwave! Thunderbolt!” “Bllleeehhh!!!” he shouted, and a dazzling ray flew into the cockpit and shocked the executives while destroying the controls. “We’re going down!” shouted Jonathan. “Help me God’!” shouted Geneva, “Godfrey! Help! Oh right, you can’t help, you’re halfway across the world.” she grinned nervously. The jets came back on at the last moment and slowed the machine down, it hovered above the ground and we could see Jonathan scrambling on the controls. “Only one chance... Inferno!” I shouted. He appeared, but snorted and just stood there. “Got it!” shouted Jonathan, and a laser was fired. “ROOOAAARRR!!!” shouted Inferno, getting hit by the beam and then glaring towards the robot. “You’ve really done it now, well done Jonathan!...” accused Geneva. “I’m sorry, it was a heat of the moment sort of thing.” apologised Jonathan. “This isn’t a small fry problem, its a flaming catastrophe!” shouted Geneva. Inferno snorted and turned to me. “You want me to ride on you?” I asked happily. He nodded. “Okay! Inferno, let’s Fly!” “ROOOAAARRR!!!” he bellowed before taking off. “Inferno, use your Slash attack to cut away the cargo room.” “ROOOAAARRR!!!” With one swift movement and a swoop past the machine, the entire bottom part tore off and crashed to the floor, the wires holding the Pokémon were also cut and they were all freed. “Now Inferno! Use your Flamethrower to finish them off!” “ROOOAAARRR!!!” he yelled and an explosion of flames burst from his mouth and overwhelmed the robot. “I’m not sure if we’ll make it through this...” whispered Jonathan while the cockpit was filled with flames, “I just have to say Geneva, I think you’re hot.” Geneva didn’t actually hear him, “Jonathan, my ears are burning... REALLY THEY ARE!!!” The robot exploded and the blackened executives were blasted into the distance. All the Pokémon were returned to their trainers, Eve was very happy to have her Pokémon back. “Hey there, Turquoise kid.” said Storm, “That was really cool what you did for us, we’d like to invite you into our club.” “I can’t stay, but I’d be happy to join.” I smiled. “And we’d be happy to have you as a member, I’ll have it all sorted out in a jiffy.” “Mister Tetsubo, thanks a lot for saving my Pokémon, you too Sis, I guess evolution doesn’t always matter... But that Charizard rules!” cheered Eve suddenly changing her tone. “It was fun working with you, perhaps we’ll see each other again in the Pokémon League?” said Carrie seeming a little nervous. “Perhaps we will.” I said shaking hands. As I did, she was obviously weighing something in her mind. “Alright! I can’t take it, I have a tradition of having Pokémon Battles whenever I make a new friend, we are friends, right?” explained Carrie softly. “Of course, a quick one-on-one battle and I’ll be on my way.” I smiled. A crowd of trainers stood around the arena, Abby stood at my side and Eve by her sister’s. “Go! Needle!” “I choose you Nina!” “Rino!” “Rina!” A smile came to my lips, Nidorino Versus Nidorina, this would be an interesting battle, and win or lose, we’d be friends. “Needle! Use your Horn Attack!” “Rino!” “Nina! Use your Bite attack!” Needle charged forward and lowered his head, but when he brought it up, Nina caught the horn between her teeth and the two wrestled. “Break away and use Fury Attack!” I shouted. “Double Kick!” she said. Needle released his horn and started to claw away, he got three hits in but the Nidorina turned itself around and knocked Needle back with her hind legs. “Nido...” groaned Needle, turning himself around in mid-air and grounding his feet on the grass to stop further skidding. “She’s good. Distract her with a Poison Sting!” I smiled. “Nina, Tail Whip!” She turned herself around and whipped the spines that Needle was firing, but Needle was letting loose a second spray, they bounced on her hard head many times, her body was full of poison, she couldn’t be affected by it, but she showed discomfort in the needles flying everywhere. “Rina!” “Focus Energy...” I said. “Rino...” concentrated Needle. “Now use your Tackle attack!” I shouted. “Rino!” Carrie gasped, “Dodge it!” Nina shook herself off and jumped. “Horn Drill!” I shouted, and Needle leaped upwards, horn spinning like a tunnel drill. “Use Your Poison Sting!” shouted Carrie, and Nina showered Needle with spines, lowering his previously thought out accurate dive. “Finish it Nina! Fury Swipes followed by Tackle!” She leapt onto Needle and scratched away savagely, and then charged down, Needle was overwhelmed and was forced under. “Rino!” “Rina!” Needle clambered on top but then Nina did, they were struggling to stay on top during the fall, whoever won this would probably take the match. They landed, and a dust cloud filled the area as a mild explosion shook the ground and filled the air. When it cleared, Needle was underneath, Nina was panting, holding him down. I exhaled in disbelief, but then I smiled and walked over to Needle, he opened one eye and looked upset. “Don’t worry Needle, I can see she’s just a little more experienced than you are, you put up a great fight.” I said kindly. “Rino...” I petted his head and then recalled him. I went back to Carrie and shook her hand. “I’ll train harder if you will, who knows, perhaps we’ll battle again.” I smiled. “Thank you Tetsubo. I’ll also train as hard as I can, and I’ll try to control my rage around Rockets, if I’m not careful, I might go too far or make a stupid mistake that could endanger my Pokémon.” she replied. “Carrie, that Nidorina was fantastic, I’d say its ready to evolve any time now, if she wants to.” I explained. “That’s right.” said Storm, “I’m sorry we said all those things about you, you’ve raised that Nidorina so well, it doesn’t need to evolve, but just think of how much stronger it can get through one little Stone.” he said handing her a Moon Stone, “No pressure.” Carrie smiled, “I didn’t think I was that great a trainer until today, thank you Tetsubo, thank you all.” “My Pokémon are gonna get stronger and then I want a rematch, Mister!” said Eve confidently. “I’ll be happy to give you one.” I replied. “Shouldn’t we be off? You’ve still got two more Gym Battles to win.” said Abby turning away. “Goodbye everyone!” I shouted, and ran off to join her. It had been a nice day, I’d made some new friends, joined a nice club that was sure to give me useful items and some pointers on previously undiscovered facts about Pokémon, and I’d made a new friend and a great trainer that had helped to prevent the executives from robbing innocent trainers of their Pokémon. Needle was also getting stronger despite his loss today, soon enough he’d be ready to evolve too, I noticed that he had accepted Poisoness’s not being around, and though he was willing to ignore her now, I was sure I’d have to look back, and make amends with my other friend...
