Chapter 36: Digging up Trouble (Part A) by Michael Keens/ Exodus

After the recent fiasco of the past week and a bit, Abby and I had finally
found a Pokémon Centre in a large place called Guyver City.
For a while, I’d been very much handicapped with weakened and defeated Pokémon,
and had a lot of dependence on Abby and her Pokémon in times of need.

“Oh, hello Tetsubo.” said Blossom, after I had called her, “Its been a while,
did something go wrong?”
“So-So, So-So.” I replied, “But the Pokédex is doing fine. I even got
Aerodactyl up there.”
“Aerodactyl. How?”
“Would you believe, I saw one. But its okay, no one got hurt, as much as they
almost deserve it...”
“Hmmmm?”
“Oh, a group of people that Emily hung around with, I defended her a lot, but I
decided that had no right after I lied to her.”
“Tetsubo, you must stop this, Bryan forced you into that predicament, you have
to hope that Emily will come back to you.”
“No Blossom, I’m done waiting for her, I’m moving on with my life. You’re
awfully calm about Bryan though, have you forgotten that he stole a Pokémon
from you?” I questioned.
“Of course not, but I’ve been reading up on him, he’s had a hard time with a
very upstanding family.”
“Please Blossom, I don’t want to talk about him, if it wasn’t for Abby’s
understanding of my problems, I’d be totally down after all the threats he made
to spread lies about me.”
“Okay then, I’m sorry. So what will it be?”
“My Pokémon only just just healed after several days, and I’d like to send my
Charizard and Exeggcute back, I hope you can handle Inferno.”
“I see no reason for Inferno to be nasty here, he liked my garden when he was a
Charmander and Charmeleon.”
“There’s a big difference now. Could you send over my Kadabra and Diglett? I’d
like to train them a little.”
“Sure thing, you know the drill, Pokéballs in the machine, one at a time...”

I soon returned to Abby, watching over a large fish tank while her Magikarp
calmly floated around.
“When will you evolve?...” she muttered, and then jumped as she saw me.
“Tetsubo. I nearly fell in because of you.”
“Sorry, are you all set to go?”
“This is terrible...” said a male voice with a strange accent.
Being my usual helpful (and gullible) self, I went over to see the problem.
He had a black moustache and beard, and he wore a blue uniform with a yellow
hard hat.
“Can... I help?”
“Yes yes, I need a Pokémon Trainer for this. Two evil business people are
reopening the dam, the one that was cancelled last year because it would have
destroyed a lot of natural life.”
“But,I can’t stop that, Pokémon can’t be used for personal disputes, or against
people like that.”
“No, you don’t understand, everyone in the group that originally worked on the
dam were banned from trying to complete it after it was discovered that Pokémon
would be harmed, but these people are going ahead anyway, therefore they can’t
use the law against those that would stop them, but if they complete it, then
greedy heartless businessmen will surely take care of the business side of
things and pay them, and use the dam for their enterprises. I know I was once
blind to the matter of the Pokémon, but I’ll feel responsible if the natural
life is harmed.”
“Okay, okay, I’ll check it out.”
“Thank you young man.”

Abby and I passed through many forests, using a map that the man had given us
to locate the dam.
“I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, you’re just too caring for your own
good...” said Abby, with a light tired smile.
“I know, I know, but its why you hang around with me.” I replied.
“I suppose so...”
Up ahead was a lone figure, wearing a smart purple sleeveless top, with red
rectangles stitched onto it above the chest area, a medium length black skirt
and boots, with long violet clothes attached to her wrists, and one wide piece
that covered the back of her legs.
She had long night black hair, and green eyes.
A small Meowth hung over her left shoulder, holding on lightly with its claws.
“What’s a woman doing out here?” asked Abby quietly.
“She looks pretty smart, and a little evil, I suppose she must be the one we’re
looking for.” I guessed, before stepping out to meet her.
“Are you responsible for the dam?”
“Of course not.” she replied, with a darker tone than Abby ever had, “Leave me
alone, I haven’t the time to deal with you.”
“So you’re up to something, don’t lie to me.” I threatened.
“Its times like this I wish I still had those Rocket underlings to serve me.”
she muttered.
“You’re with the Rockets?! Then it Must be you, only scum like you could
rebuild a dam that would wash away hundreds of Pokémon!” I accused.
“Shut up, and just listen to what I have to say.” she shouted.
“No way! The construction worker told us that there were two people behind
this, so where’s your partner? You can’t do the motto without him I’m sure, I’m
sick of you people, sick of the scientists, the Elites, the executives, the
alternatives and the idiots with the Meowth. You all disgust me!” I yelled.
“You know of the talking Meowth?...” she asked with interest.
“I suppose so, beat him up a couple of times. But that means you definitely
are a Rocket to know someone like him.” I accused again.
“I quit them a long time ago, leave now, and I’ll have no quarrel with you.”
said the woman firmly.
“You can forget it, not until I know for sure who’s behind this.”
“Well then, if I really must prove myself, I’ll tell you everything, but only
if you can beat me in a best of three battles, I was looking to do some
training today.”
“You’re on!”

“I choose you Haze.”
“Go! Psychot!”
“Veno-Moth!”
“Ku-Dabra!”
“Haze, use your Stun Spore.”
“Moth!!!”
“Teleport!”
A storm of yellow dust swept through the ground of the forest area, just
stopping short of myself, Abby and the so-called ex-Rocket.
“Ku...”
Psychot had teleported above the Venomoth, and remained in a floating position,
before glaring confidently, and outstretching a hand.
The Venomoth was frozen, and drifted towards the ground.
“Supersonic.” said the lady.
“Venooo!!!”
“Ku-” spluttered Psychot, affected by the shriek of the Bug/ Poison-type.
“Now use Gust.” she added.
The Venomoth, free of its disability, flapped its wings, and a wind storm
overwhelmed Psychot, and flung it upwards.
He managed to catch a tree branch, and hang on until he could aim a Confusion
spell to slam the Venomoth into a tree.
“Once more!” I shouted.
“Ku-Dabra!”
“Psybeam.” said the lady.
The more powerful attack burst through the Confusion attack and shot Psychot
into the air.
“Match it move for move!”
“Dabra!” yelled Psychot, taking a fall, but shooting a large rainbow beam down.
in order to slow his descent, and combat the Venomoth.
“Take it up a level.” said the woman, and the Psybeam stopped, the Venomoth
sidestepped (or sidefloated if such a phrase exists), and aimed a Psychic
attack at Psychot.
An explosion followed, and Psychot plummeted.
“Veno!” squealed the Venomoth, shooting upwards and tackling my Pokémon.
He collapsed on the floor after snapping through two tree branches.
“Psychic attack...” I ordered, and an equally big explosion ripped through a
tree, but not the Venomoth.
It had quickly reappeared next to Psychot, and latched onto him before draining
his energy with Leech Life, a Bug-type attack, causing more life to be stolen.
“Recover!” I called out, but the Venomoth was onto me, and shook its wings
until Sleep Powder was released, and sent the weakened Psychic Pokémon into a
deep sleep.
“Return.” we both said, and we did the same by drawing another Pokémon.
“I choose you Flash.”
“Go for it Digda!”
“Eui!” growled a tiny little Eevee.
“Dig’ g’ lett’ Dig! Dig’ g’ lett’ Dig!” chanted my Diglett happily.
“Tackle attack.” said the woman.
“Eui!”
The speedy Eevee dashed forward at an alarming speed, it looked like there was
only one thing for it.
“Sand Attack!”
“Diglett!”
A wave of dust rose and smacked the Eevee in the face, it dived towards Digda
but missed, and skidded into a tree.
It shook away the sand, and initiated a Quick Attack, and shot past the mole
Pokémon, damaging it, the Eevee landed, and shot back for another go.
“Diggg...” growled Digda, and the Eevee backed away cautiously.
“You’ve got it on the ropes...” I encouraged, but the Eevee yelled out, and
shot into Digda, slapping it with its bushy tail.
“Slash attack.” I said, a little guilty to be hurting such a small and cute
Pokémon.
“EUI!!!” it yelped, and collapsed on the ground upon the unseen claws hitting
it.
“Use your Sand Attack.” said the woman.
The Eevee leapt up, and faced away from Digda, it then started moving its hind
legs to kick back the dirt, Digda was hit in the eyes, and started panicking,
burrowing left and right.
“Calm down Digda! Just use your Dig and home in on it!” I encouraged.
“Diglett.” he smiled, and disappeared underground.
The Eevee panicked, scurrying around in circles, but it was easily discovered,
and the little burrower smacked into the Eevee, and lifted it into the air with
many small pieces of earth.
“Attack it.” shouted the woman.
“Eui!” shouted the Eevee, leaping into Digda for a Take Down, it then bit on
the little worm-like Pokémon, and clung onto him.
“Earthquake!” I yelled.
And then Digda shrunk into his hole, and the circle of land around him, shook
and broke apart.
The Eevee was caught in the blast, and flung into a pile of rocks, before a
second wave fell on top of him and buried it.
The woman calmly walked towards the pile, and dug out her Eevee.
“Eui...” it groaned.
“Don’t worry Flash, I’ll find a Thunder Stone for you soon...” the woman said,
before returning it to its Pokéball.
“You only won because Flash is little.” spoke the lady.
“Well so is Digda.” I replied.
“Draw you final Pokémon. I shall use Radiant.”
“Go for it Shockwave.”
“Buzz!!!” he growled, he was quickly becoming one of my favourite Pokémon.
“Alakazam!”
“Double uh oh.” I muttered, “Use your Thunderbolt.”
“Blllaaabuzz!!!”
The beam of electricity shot at the Alakazam, but it silently teleported away.
“Buzz?... Buzz?...” questioned Shockwave, swiftly turning to the sides as he
looked for the quick opponent.
“Psybeam.”
“Kazam!”
“Buzz!”
The beam was considerably more powerful than her Venomoth’s, and my Kadabra’s,
this Pokémon was very well trained.
“Quick Attack.”
“Bleeeh BUZZ!!!” yelled Shockwave, leaping back up and slamming his side into
the Alakazam, before following up by grabbing its foot, and swinging it down,
but it teleported once more, and reappeared in a balanced floating stance in
the air.
“Psychic.”
“Ala.” said the Alakazam confidently, before outstretching a hand and firing a
small blue sphere that shot into Shockwave and exploded.
The smoke of the blast clouded the area, and the Alakazam relaxed itself for a
moment, one that Shockwave exploited while he had the chance, with a powerful
Mega Punch, it was virtually the only way to beat a powerful Psychic Pokémon.
It collapsed on the floor but picked itself up, Shockwave jumping in for
another hit.
“Reflect.”
A bright shield shot up between the two Pokémon, and the force was so great
that Shockwave was repelled, a follow-up Confusion attack sent Shockwave
crashing upwards through tree branches.
“Thunder!” I yelled.
“Finish it.” said the woman, and the Alakazam rose up, quickly teleporting from
tree branch to tree branch in order to reach to Shockwave’s level, he had just
activated the attack, using nature itself to carry out a big hit.
Dark clouds were already in position, and a huge bolt was about to fire down on
my Electabuzz.
“Blllaaa-”
“Ala-Kazam!”
“Buzz?!”
The Alakazam rose into the air, took hold of Shockwave’s arm, and briefly
twisted it before flinging him into the air.
The lightning rained down, and unfortunately, Shockwave was no longer in
position to absorb it into an attack, it shocked him badly, leaving him to
plummet all the way down.
“Shockwave!” I shouted, and ran into the area, trying to see through the thick
branches and leaves for where he was falling.
“There!” shouted Abby, pointing upwards and slightly right of me, where a tree
branch had just fallen.
I made a dive, as I shot the recall laser to catch Shockwave before he hit the
ground, and risked a deadly experience...

I panted a little, the whole battle having been stressful for me, and it wasn’t
as if her Pokémon had a stat or level advantage, she was just very calm and
precise about her attacks.
“Return Radiant.” said the lady, before rudely walking away, and not caring
about my Pokémon like a Rocket would.
“Please wait... You’re obviously not a Rocket anymore... I guess I was wrong,
and I’m sorry. But if you know something that could save lives, please tell
me...” I pleaded.
“... Continue north for a while, you’ll find Guyver Dam there. That’s all you
get.”
With that, the woman signalled for her Meowth to clamber up on her shoulder,
and walked away calmly.
“Thank you, may I ask you your name?” I asked, but I was ignored.
“I’d say how rude I think she is, if I hadn’t acted like her in the past.”
commented Abby.
“Don’t worry about her, she’s obviously telling the truth. Now let’s hurry on
our way and stop whichever Rocket group is behind the dam.”
“Alright.”
With that, Abby and I charged forward, eager to stop those that would harm the
many Pokémon of this forest.
