Chapter 50: Eggtreme Measures (Part B) by Michael Keens/ Exodus

“Tetsubo.” said Nurse Joy after some time, “Your Exeggcute has stopped cracking
for now...”
“But...” I inquired.
“But, it seems to have a rare condition only seen in egg-like Pokémon,
sometimes Pokémon take on more than they should when they’re in their early
stages, this appears to have happened with yours. Don’t blame this on
yourself, trainers rarely notice the tiny cracks until it starts growing
rapidly like this, especially with Exeggcutes.”
“So what can you do to help Scramble?” I pleaded.
“Its out of my hands, what you need is a Leaf Stone. By evolving this Pokémon
into an Exeggutor, the eggs will transform into coconuts, and be cured of the
condition.”
“That’s perfect, Scramble just learned all its natural attacks, and I’ve got a
Leaf Stone right...”
I reached towards my back, before realising in horror that my backpack wasn’t
there.
“Oh no! I left it back in the mountains!” I exclaimed.
“You don’t have too much time, you’d better take your Exeggcute with you.
Evolve it as soon as you can.” said Nurse Joy, carefully placing Scramble on
the front desk.
“Sure I will.” I said, drawing its Pokéball.
“Stop!” shouted Nurse Joy, “You mustn't do that. Drawing a Pokémon into its
Pokéball changes a Pokémon from solid matter to energy, in its condition you’d
be taking a big risk changing its matter.”
“Okay, I guess I’ll carry them...” I sighed, “Mind if I borrow this?...”

I was soon hurrying back towards the mountain area but not too fast, in my
hands I held a basket with my egg Pokémon inside it, they all put on a brave
face but the uncertainty and insecurity was clear as their cracks slowly got
worse.
If only I’d noticed earlier during those two months of trainer’s leave, but I’d
alternated between all my Pokémon and must have overlooked it.
When we sorted out this mess, I’d be sure to check up on my Pokémon regularly.
We reached the area where I’d just battled, the once normal mountain sides of
the path were a wreck thanks to my battle.
I carefully put the basket down and ran towards my backpack and rummaged
through it quickly to find the stone.
“Got it. Agh!” I shuddered as something pounced on top of me and overwhelmed
my sights.
I pushed against the slimy thing and lifted enough of it to see the basket
rising into the air, a thin wire wrapped around the handle and leading up to an
Electrode shaped hot air balloon.

“We strike during day or night!”
“We attack, with all our might!”
“Don’t mess with us, or we shall fight!”
“We’re pretty good at our rhyme.”
“The masterminds, of crime.”
“We always succeed, every time.”
“Cletus!”
“Cassie!”
“Claus!”
“If y’all got valuables, yuh’d better block it!”
“We put Pokémon in our pocket!”
“We’re the best, so don’t knock it!”
“We are... Elite Rocket!”

Knowing the bad guys for today were them, I knew which of their Pokémon was
holding me down, the grotesque Muk nicknamed Chemical.
“Suffocate the runt.” smiled Claus darkly.
“Twinkill!” I shouted, having finally reached my Pokéballs during the tiresome
Rocket motto.
It appeared over me, spinning as it rose up and took the Muk with it.
The Poison Pokémon splattered onto the floor in front of us, but I gasped as I
saw four of my Pokéballs within its slimy body.
Twinkill leapt forward but the Muk unleashed a heavy exhale, and black smoke
overwhelmed my Pokémon and I.
I shielded my eyes and mouth until the smoke cleared, but during this time, the
Muk had leapt into the balloon, and Elite Rocket were already leaving with five
of my Pokémon.
“No!... Twinkill, Double Edge!” I shouted desperately.
“Starrr!” it wailed as it flew upwards and tore through the balloon, it was
about to dive down and retrieve my Exeggcute, but Cletus’s Arbok appeared in
the balloon’s basket and unleashed many poison needles, followed by Cassie’s
Seadra which blasted my Staryu with an Ice Beam.
Twinkill was encased in ice and plummeted, while the hole in the balloon took
hold and caused it to fly through the air uncontrollably, it flew up, spun
once, and then dropped towards the top of the right mountain, I’d seen that
none of my Exeggcute eggs had fallen out thanks to the thick handle and sheer
luck, but what if the action or the fall was too much for them, or if Elite
Rocket managed to escape with it and didn’t care for the dying Exeggcute when
they had four other Pokémon?...
“We’ve gotta hurry Twinkill...”

Meanwhile, Emily was still in the Pokémon Centre having only just woke up, she
wouldn’t catch up to be of any help in time.
“Nurse Joy, have you seen Tetsubo?...”
“His Exeggcute was in danger of passing away so he hurried to evolve and save
it, I’m sure he’ll be back soon.”
“I guess I’ll wait for him then, I’m sure he’ll be fine without me...”

“I wish Emily was here, any of her Pokémon would probably be of help right
now...” I groaned as I climbed up an unsafe part of the mountain, any slip up
now, and both Scramble and I would perish.
Twinkill refused to return to its Pokéball, even though its health wasn’t so
good, even when it used Recover, the poison from a moment ago claimed more of
its life force, at some point, Twinkill would overuse Recover and be unable to
cure itself.
Being in its Pokéball wouldn’t hold off the poison, and Twinkill felt somewhat
responsible in helping out one of its oldest teammates, so I let it join me
despite its health and my not having any antidote in my possession, but I
refused to use it to help me climb like I usually would.
I’d soon been at the whole climbing thing longer than I could count at present,
which I hoped wasn’t too much as time was what I didn’t have.
Finally the end of the harsh climb ended, and a reasonable uphill path was all
that lied between me and my Pokémon, minus the Elites.

I finished my run and carefully peeped around the next corner, and spied on the
Elites.
My four Pokéballs were in a see-through bag, and Scramble was still in the
basket, but hadn’t appeared to leave due to its condition weakening it.
The Elites were patching up their balloon but had sensibly left three Pokémon
on guard, their Arbok, Muk and Seadra.
“Twinkill.” I whispered, “Try and distract the Pokémon, I’ll sneak around and
evolve Scramble, then maybe it can assist you, okay?”
“Star.” it nodded.
“Hurry up and patch up that balloon!” shouted Claus.
“We’d be done if yuh jus’ got off yer backside an’ heyelped!” complained
Cletus.
“Yeah, you’re not even a proper leader! If you were then we wouldn’t be at the
bottom of the barrel within Team Rocket.” moaned Cassie.
“So? We got Turquoise’s Pokémon, didn’t we?” chuckled Claus.
“And just how much money and resources have we used to get this far? We’ve got
a long way to go before we’re back in the Boss’s good books.” stated Cassie
angrily.
“Hmph, maybe we should go after Turquoise again, he has other Pokémon.” he
pondered.
I had been creeping by all this time but I accidentally crunched down on some
annoying pebbles and was swiftly confronted by Claus’s Muk again.
“Muk Uk Uk Uk.” it chuckled, its body becoming more venomous and then pouncing
at me.
“Star!” screamed Twinkill, slamming into it and propelling it away, I scampered
forward and then retracted my leg as a huge jet of water sprayed in front of
me.
“Dra!” shouted the Seadra, shooting itself at me quickly, but getting shocked
by a distant Thunderbolt.
“Thanks Twinkill.” I called, and moved on, but the Arbok was next, it first
leered at me, and although I tried to be brave, I involuntarily froze up, and a
flurry of needles were fired, but I barely managed to lift my foot up high to
avoid them.
The next thing I knew, the Arbok had disappeared, then quickly reappeared from
underground and twisted around me, preparing to squeeze.
A glowing blue light hit us both, but the Psychic attack only affected the
Arbok, uncurling it and forcing it to be frozen in a straight line, and then
hurling it away.
“What a Pokémon I’ve raised.” I said to myself, continuing on.
“Sta-aaa!” shouted Twinkill, getting battered by three Pokémon at once.
The Arbok had glared at it and induced paralysis on the Staryu, then the Seadra
had disorientated it with several bubbles, and then the Muk pounded it down.
It was happening again, my Staryu was being battered by several Pokémon at the
same time in order to help me, and I remember what had happened to it all too
well.
Scramble was in my sights, looking sick and full of cracks, and I was torn.
The Arbok was biting down on one of the star points, the Seadra had partially
frozen part of Twinkill, and the Muk was spewing poison all over it.
“Twinkill!” I shouted, hurling the stone...
“Ch’aaarrr-Bok?!” screamed the Arbok, having been hit on the head.
“Um, can Arboks evolve through stones?” questioned Cassie.
“O’ course not!” shouted Cletus.
Twinkill growled and leapt up, shattering the ice and showering the shards on
the three enemy Pokémon.
It spun towards the Leaf Stone I’d thrown and catapulted it back to me.
I was already running away as I positioned myself to catch the stone and keep
going.
I skidded to a halt by the basket, and stroked my Exeggcute carefully.
“Scramble...”
That simple touch immediately sparked off another chain of cracks.
“No time for goodbyes, we do this now...”
Twinkill had tried its hardest, but to take on three high level Pokémon at the
same time was close to impossible.
It spun away as the three Pokémon crashed down, on each other, and shot a
dazzling array of electricity all around, stunning the Pokémon but not stopping
all of them.
Snakebite, also paralysed, used the Haze technique to heal itself, out of
Twinkill’s range so it couldn’t benefit from it, Queendra again countered with
an Ice Beam and caught Twinkill off guard, Chemical hardened itself and slammed
down on Twinkill with all its weight, Twinkill was battered and weak, and
barely able to hold the Arbok’s mouth open with its star points as it tried to
bite into it again...
“Ch’ar... Char...” growled Snakebite, but then its tone changed “Ch’arrr!!!”
Twinkill no longer had to hold the Arbok’s mouth open, it was frozen that way.
“TOR!!!”
The Arbok went flying into its allies, and I helped up my battered Staryu.
“Twinkill... Please be alright...” I wished.
“St, star...” it groaned, regenerating its health a little but too tired to
battle.
“I guess you’d better sit this one out, you’ve done your part.” I sighed
happily.
“Star?” it questioned, before looking at the large Pokémon standing in front of
it.
It had two legs, a large body, three coconut heads that resembled some of the
original eggs by their expression, and several large long leaves shooting out
of its head.
“Exeggutor.” said Scramble cheerfully.
“Star...” it replied in kind.
“Scramble, looks like we’re going to have to test out some of the new moves
again, and improvise a little.” I briefed, “Go get ‘em, we still have to get
the other Pokémon back.”
“Tor...”

“Exeggutor, the Coconut Pokémon. Each of the fruits is an independently
thinking head. It is said that if one drops off, it becomes an Exeggcute.”

I put away the Pokédex as it stomped forward, a little strangely since it had
only gotten legs for the first time in its life, its large frame was also hard
to adjust to, and for me, its only having three heads now would take a little
adjusting to, but what remained that originally made up the Exeggcute had
become the body of the Exeggutor, now they were all one lifeform.
“Dra!”
The Seadra came at it first, bouncing along, and its eyes glowing white, but
Scramble being big now, wasn’t scared at all, whereas in the past it probably
would have been, it returned the glowing eyes look, but its look induced sleep,
the Seadra tried to resist it, but it didn’t matter.
Scramble then stormed up to it, and stomped one of its feet down on it,
weakening it a lot, and then stealing its energy with Mega Drain to make up for
the health lost to its illness.
“MUUUKKK!” growled Chemical, who could prove to be tougher, it shrunk itself
down into the cracks on the mountain floor, and quickly reformed behind
Scramble, who was prepared, and caught the leaping Muk in a Psychic trap,
squeezing it hard in invisible energy.
The Muk screeched in an attempt to break it, and it worked, but as it
splattered onto the ground, Scramble blasted it with a barrage of small
projectiles, and dashed the many parts of the Muk around the area, it would
take a while to reform plus it’d be weakened now.
“CH’ARRR!!!” screamed the Arbok once more, soon turning into a wail to distract
Scramble, it slithered forward and leapt into a pounce, its teeth glinting and
in full view.
Scramble quickly shook itself off, and used the final attack we’d been looking
for it to use, and a glowing egg shaped projectile grew from the centre of the
palm leaves, and shot at the Arbok, who sniggered at the attack, thinking it
was a real egg and opening its jaws wider to gobble it up.
Wild Ekans and Arboks were known to steal bird Pokémon’s eggs and eat them on
occasion, and Snakebite was no exception, but this egg was loaded.
It turned out to be too big to swallow without the talent only a snake had, but
before it could attempt to do so, it exploded, and this was a Huge explosion.
The Arbok fell back, totally blackened and hurt, and with it being the last
Pokémon, Elite Rocket was panicking, recalling Pokémon, and jumping back into
their balloon, which was now fixed, and rising.
“Scramble! Solar Beam! Twinkill! Thunderbolt!”
Twinkill waited a moment for Scramble to charge up, since it was still morning
time, the sun was out and the beam was charged quickly, when Scramble fired, so
did Twinkill, and the solar and electric rays shot up, occasionally spiralling
around each other, until they hit their mark, and blew up the balloon, sending
the Rockets flying, and tossing my Pokéballs down.

“That makes Turquoise - 21, Elite Rocket - Nothing!” screamed Cassie.
“We’ll even the score someday!” shouted Claus.
“Maybe, but it would been nice ta get one victory against him dis year!”
finished Cletus.
“Elite Rocket’s blasting off once more!...” they all screamed.

“Scramble! Twinkill! Quickly! Use Psychic!”
The two Pokémon used their psychic abilities to catch each of the Pokéballs
descending down, and reel them in before I lost them.
“One... Two... Three... and Four. We got ‘em all back. I’m so glad...” I
panted, I may always have been able to beat Elite Rocket (twenty one times
apparently), but today was close, and I had to work hard for my victory, as
failure would mean the loss of my Pokémon.
“Thank you Scramble, thank you Twinkill, you two are some of the most reliable
and greatest Pokémon I’ve ever seen...” I sighed happily.
“Exeggutor...”
“Star!...”

I returned to the Pokémon Centre, my new Exeggutor trundling behind me and my
Staryu in my arms.
Emily was waiting at the door and breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing me,
“Thank goodness you’re okay, you were away for some time.”
“No need to worry, just the usual amount of danger I deal with on a regular
basis, and everything’s fine, especially this new Pokémon.” I comforted.
“Ex-Eggutor!” cheered Scramble, shaking its heads and leaves from side to side
and hopping from one foot to another happily.
“Aw, you evolved those cute little eggs, I’ll miss them being that way but this
Exeggutor is still adorable.” squealed Emily, the way only a girl could.
“I just need to give some of my Pokémon a refresh and I’ll be good to go.” I
said, recalling Scramble.
“Just think. Ahead of us lies the path to the Pokémon League, after everything
we’ve been through, we’re finally going to compete against the best trainers in
the country.” reminded Emily happily.
“That we are.” I replied.

Soon Emily and I stood on a high hill that overlooked the Indigo Plateau, and
the Victory Road, we turned towards each other and gave off a pleasant and
confident look before we set out towards our longtime destination at last.
